“I'm interested in trying to get up to Denali State Park while the weather still holds. Does anybody have experience with this park or the Troublesome Creek trail?” 9:49:40 PM 10/24/03 “I've only driven through the area, pulled off for picnics and such. It has one of my favorite views of Denali. My "Backpacking in Alaska" book has several pages on the park. What do you want to know?” 8:37:54 AM 10/25/03 “ehhwww.... Denali.... Someday....” 8:39:19 AM 10/25/03 8:40:40 AM 10/25/03 “I have not been in the State Park, but I have been in the National Park. Lots of people visit the park. The place should be pretty this time of year. Plan on several hours getting though all of the hoops to get out in the backcountry if you go into the National Park. If I were you I would buy a bus ticket and ride deep into the park and get out somewere and stay gone for several days and then show back up to the road and catch a bus back. All I can say is go man go.” 6:00:59 PM 10/25/03 “So much for the weather holding. Raining all day. Maybe next weekend. The place looks kind of rugged and cut with a bunch of creeks and rivers. I was wondering if you could leave the trail - Troublesome Creek - and head out trekking? I need to get at least 24 hours away from the parking lot. I'm trying to locate a copy of "55 Ways to the Wilderness" but haven't found it yet. I think we're gonna explore the State Park for a while. The NP is a bit far for a weekender.” 7:44:25 PM 10/25/03 Book says.... “Denali SP, Troublesome creek is Talkeetna C-2 Quad. 137.6 Parks Hwy. Ascends along the creek to treeline, open area dotted by alpine lakes, mountain views. From there only rock cairns as trail head north to Byers Lake State Campground. 15 miles one way. Numerous black bears in Jul-Aug. Looks like its time for winter camping in the NP. ”8:27:24 PM 10/25/03
