Mine are still good, but I think I have some night time problems. lights are very bright, much brighter then before.(glare)” 4:09:12 PM 12/10/03 “good question Gem. Talk to your eye doctor. I'm taking Tango to court for calling me Dude. Okay, good luck you hairy, stupid, moronic, good for nothing, idiotic two eyed sonuvabizitch!" Geobeet I'm liking this. At least I haven't been called a gear slut or a spring pisser.” 4:20:36 PM 12/10/03 “Hairy eyeball? Shaved your head? Just don't start talkin' about shavin' your legs!” 4:03:47 PM 12/11/03 “Or anywhere else, for that matter... Ewwwww......” 4:05:13 PM 12/11/03 “good luck” 4:36:05 PM 12/11/03 “so how come this thread doesn't have lasik ads but the other one does? weird.” 4:42:09 PM 12/11/03 “Did it almost 2 years ago, just a week before my first major winter XC ski/camping trip. Excellent! Now I'm seeing about 20-15....” 4:44:12 PM 12/11/03 “i don't know. that lasik stuff scares the beejeebees out of me. i'd hate to be blind. Pennsy-- what'd your eye doc say at the appointment?” 4:55:26 PM 12/11/03 “Yam, I'm with you. But if you have it done, check on the practicianer and how many she/he has done successfully.” 5:24:06 PM 12/11/03 “The prelim evalauation went well. I'm scheduled for January 29. The final complete exam will be the week before where the doc will discuss the exact specifics. At that time I'll know if I'll have to wear reading glasses. If that's the case, I'll cancel because I'm not going to carry glasses while hiking for reading maps. There is no obligation or cost to cancel so that's a good thing.” 5:59:37 PM 12/11/03 “Good luck with this, Pennsy. If they need to stitch or implant anything be sure to tell only titanium will do.” 8:27:22 PM 12/11/03 “Titanium eyes, I kinda like the sound of that. I just got a call and there was a cancellation. Next week at this time I'll either be walking around without specs or with a cane. Any of our trail dogs trained as seeing eye dogs?” 2:08:49 PM 12/12/03 “Good luck Pennsy....I don't know, I'm still kinda leary about it. I feel my eyes are too important to me to be messing with. I'll still deal with the glasses and contacts as long as I have to. Until they can gaurentee(sp) 100%, I'll wait. That's my take on it anyway.” 4:39:15 PM 12/12/03 “I took a friend of mine to an appointment to have a prosthetic eye fitted after he was injured by an M-80. The technician had 20/20 eyesight but always wore glasses (with safety lenses) because of all the stuff he’d seen happen to people. Maybe glasses aren’t that bad after all.” 4:51:46 PM 12/12/03 “and???” 3:20:00 PM 12/16/03 “I cancelled the surgery today. :o( The doc told me I would definately need reading glasses. That makes things more complicated because I would have to carry reading glasses AND sunglasses. I like simple and carrying 2 pair ain't that. Oh well.” 3:32:54 PM 12/16/03 “sorry to hear it didn't work out for you Bruce. :( You'll need your glasses to wade through all that spam I sent you today, LOL! o(=D” 3:44:47 PM 12/16/03 “Just think of all the gear you can buy with your LASIK cash!” 3:51:13 PM 12/16/03 “Bummer Pennsy. Treat yourself to some new gear (like that'd do a lot of good, you'd buy it anyway.. hee hee).” 3:52:11 PM 12/16/03 “Uh oh... I haven't checked my email account today. Maybe I'll wait a week. ;o)” 3:52:48 PM 12/16/03 “LOL! There IS, or was no Lasik cash. It was going on the credit card. I'll think I'll buy some new gear anyway to cheer me up. I'll call my personal service rep at REI and find out what DIDN'T I buy this year.” 4:04:14 PM 12/16/03 “Whine whine whine. Jeez, Shut up!” 4:14:00 PM 12/16/03 “That reminds me. I'm out of merlot.” 4:15:39 PM 12/16/03 “Major bummer, was hoping for you....” 4:27:47 PM 12/16/03 “what about the clone thing? how about that now? ;) Hey there's good stories and pictures in that spam mister! haha...” 5:41:39 PM 12/16/03 “Darn Pennsy. Oh well priorities!” 6:23:06 PM 12/16/03 “I had lasik surgery and have 20/15 vision now and yes i have to use reading glasses” 7:47:40 PM 12/16/03 what if.... “someone like me wants Lasik but ive never had glasses or contacts, do you think they would still let me get it done...i asked once but they told me i had to have glasses for at least 1 year...this was more when it was coming out though....i mean last time i got my eyes checked was awhile back and one eye was 20/40 while the other was 20/200(sports injury) any professionals in the room to comment on that?” 8:46:42 PM 12/16/03 “Just bringing this thread back for Monkeyboy. Two more other threads on Lasik; Lasiks? and Nekkid gets LASIK , both can be found using the "Search thread" function. Do not know why the LASIK thread went into "wide screen" though. last edited: 1/27/05 12:46:11 AM” 12:42:38 AM 1/27/05 “Alaska's post had a 480 letter word in. It tried to squeeze it all into 1 line and widened the page in doing so.” 9:36:56 PM 1/29/05 “Matt's gotta fix that glitch.” 2:14:46 AM 1/30/05 “Matt can not fix that "glitch" all he can do is delete posts. HTML interperates long strings of consecutive characters as one word and will not truncate a word. Now it is possible to code a filter to exclude excessivly long character strings. last edited: 1/30/05 2:30:49 PM” 2:29:13 PM 1/30/05 “It looks like I am going to bite the bullet and get it done. I had the consultation with the same surgeon that did the surgeries for The Magic team. Kind of scary still. The surgery is still a month or so off.” 6:49:00 PM 8/16/05 “at 1500 dollars an eye, id want the power to see into the womens locker room!” 6:51:28 PM 8/16/05 “I don't want that power!” 6:54:55 PM 8/16/05 “We kidded the guys at work who were getting their eyes done, saying they could get up the dough for one eye at a time and just wear a monocle for a while.” 7:33:31 PM 8/16/05 “May I ask what the price is?” 8:39:12 AM 8/17/05 “Be sure to shop around for the best price.” 8:40:42 AM 8/17/05 “I'm more interested in shopping around for the best doctor.” 8:44:38 AM 8/17/05 “I had it done and I had a pretty bad experience. That said, my eyes are fine now and I have fairly good vision. The first time I had it done I came out with better vision but I still could not see to work without glasses. This is was very, very hard because my eyes were healing and changing every day. So the doctor couldn't make a pair of glasses for me that would work well for any period of time until my eyes healed from the first surgery. I use a computer at work and I had to turn on the accessibility options for several months before they would reconsider the surgery again. Eventually they lifted the flaps on my eyes and did the procedure again. This time it worked fairly well. One eye was pretty much dead on but the other wasn't. This took some getting used to but now I am fine and I even got rid of the drivers license restriction for glasses. That said, I still see astigmatic effects. This freaked me out because with glasses I had excellent vision and without glasses I had poor vision. So I had no idea what astigmatic effects looked like. They couldn't totally correct the astigmatism (not unusual) so I had to learn to live with these visual effects. That means double vision at night (headlights, etc) and stars/smearing. It's not as bad as it sounds. The key here is that the procedure is based on burning away tissue and then your body re-heals a portion of it. So they have to burn away a certain amount and predict the healing response for your body (how much it will grow back). Everybody is different in this regard, and they give you a steroid which makes each person more similar in terms of healing (so you are closer to their model). In my case I "overhealed" (whatever that means) relative to their model so they burnt away tissue and more of it healed back than the model would predict. Hence a second procedure was required. This was all very hard. I hope if you do this you have a good experience, but it's a toss of the dice. I have no doubt it will be fine in the end, but the procedure is over marketed. Notice they say the procedure will only "reduce your dependency on glasses" not eliminate your need for them. They could do this by poking your eyes out with a pencil. So just know that they have this thing wired from a legal and marketing perspective. Get a GOOD doctor, an MD and look for the most modern equipment. There are a lot of shops using old but FDA approved gear. Use the net to research this. Much of the features in the latest gear is also marketing designed to help doctors sell the procedure, so much of this is a wash. It's better to at least try to be informed. If you have any questions please, please email me. I am not saying "don't do it". I am saying "make an informed decision and know what is fair to expect".” 9:04:49 AM 8/17/05 “Pitts, I'm sorry to hear of your experience. Have you joined www.surgicaleyes.org ? Tango, I'd recommend reading the aforementioned www.surgicaleyes.org long and hard before getting the procedure done. Personally I would not consider LASIK at this time.” 9:24:15 AM 8/17/05 “My lasik went great. No probs, went from 20-200 or something to 20-15. Went on a XC Ski/Backpacking trip 2 weeks after the surgery. I picked a doc that was on the inexpensive side, but inexpensive because he had done like 10,000 procedures. Had a couple ML baseball players as clients, too.” 9:32:52 AM 8/17/05 “Sarge - in professional services we have a saying, "Cheap, good, fast: pick any two."” 9:42:25 AM 8/17/05 “We have similar options for programming. We tell the users, you get: - the options you want - the delivery schedule you want - the quality you want Pick 2.” 10:01:35 AM 8/17/05 “In case you didn't catch it, that was a joke guys.” 10:06:11 AM 8/17/05
