Once again I would like to put together a trip to the Linville Gorge in Linnville Falls, NC. The 1st and 2nd were a great success and the 3rd would have been had the weather cooperated and communications had been better.LOL! (try 3rd annual thread)

The Linville Gorge is an awesome place to visit and there will be hardly anyone around in January.

The only part of the plan for now is the month of January.Give me some feedback as to what dates would work out for the majority and who can make it.

I need to make this trip work for a few dissapointed folks from last year!

check out the trips page and see what dates already have trips planned for Jan. I know there is a Savage Gulf Trip planned for the middle of the month. Also there is a big hike planned for Fl the 1st weekend of Feb that could create some problems.

17-18 looks good for me. Because:

My daughter has to be in Iowa for the second semester by the 19th. I will be taking her to Chapel Hill, from where she will continue to Iowa with a classmate.

But I'm only a maybe, so plan accordingly.

I'm still gonna wait to set a date maybe until after the Mt Rogers trip. It seems alot of the same people are interested that will be on that trip. I will bring a map for Linville with me to Mt Rogers and we can discuss a plan then.

I know I've told this story before, but I came out of the Gorge on the Pinch-In once and I was cured! LOL (be sure to stretch your Achilles tendons properly, beforehand) What's the name of that trail between Pinch-In and the falls? That one wasn't bad at all... it had switchbacks, <G>

Hay,
I hear they are actually going to start maintaining the trail in Linville Gorge and marking them. Too many people getting lost in there. Not us though!
We'll see how my back is doing at that time.

I am still planning on going, but I am not a 100%.

I also found this info on a linville gorge yahoo board:

The closure order prohibits going into or upon the area within the orange
painted or posted boundary between Jan 15 and Aug 15 to protect the falcon. The
order remains in effect whether or not posted signs are present.

Closed sites may be reopened if the bird is found to be nesting elsewhere,
however the NC wall will remain closed till July first to provide MINIMUM
protection of threatened plant species Hudsonia Montana.

Ciimbing route numbers are taken from "The Climbers Guide to North Carolina" by
Kelly, 1995 3rd edition.

On the NC wall: All routes between and including #5 to #33. On Shortoff: All
routes between and including #42 thru #57.

As usual this letter is addressed to the climbing community and leaves wide open
the question of HIKING either above or below the cliffs.
