Prospective Board Members must be citizens of the United States , at least 18 years old, and registered with the Selective Service (if male). Prospective Board Members may not be an employee of any law enforcement occupation, not be an active or retired member of the Armed Forces, and not have been convicted of any criminal offense. Once identified as qualified candidates for appointment, prospective Board Members are recommended by the Governor and appointed by the Director of Selective Service, who acts on behalf of the President in making appointments. Each new member receives 12 hours of initial training after appointment, followed by 4 hours of annual training for as long as he or she remains in the position. They may serve as Board Members for up to 20 years, if desired. Local Board Members are uncompensated volunteers who play an important community role closely connected with our Nation's defense. If a military draft becomes necessary, approximately 2,000 Local and Appeal Boards throughout America would decide which young men, who submit a claim, receive deferments, postponements or exemptions from military service, based on Federal guidelines. Positions are available in many communities across the Nation. If you believe you meet the standards for Selective Service Board Membership, and wish to be considered for appointment please visit our web site at: http://www.sss.gov/fslocal.htm” 12:28:53 AM 11/03/03 “hmmmm...” 7:11:31 AM 11/03/03 “Well, my frist question is: Are we reviving something here or just filling them cause some people have spilt? Is here any way we can confrim this?” 7:25:32 AM 11/03/03 “Sheesh! Just some more "We're in another Vietnam!" bullchit.” 8:09:35 AM 11/03/03 “Maybe....but I still think the question is a good one. What's wrong with asking what the truth is? I'm hoping not on this one, honestly. With the Government saying that (and going along with President, from hism and others in his group) this could be a long "slog" and that we might have to be there for a while (is it at least a couple years?), compiled with the fact that we might have to be in Iraq while taking care of another situation, we might not have enough people, no?” 8:20:46 AM 11/03/03 “Every single life is a precious one and I do not mean to undermine their cost but at our currant rate of casualties we would have to be their for 15 years before we would reach even the body count of 9/11 much less the numbers of Vietnam. Afganistan is a fairly small operation now and we can't forget that we are not the only ones there. We aren't even alone in Iraq. Let's not forget our British friends.” 8:32:37 AM 11/03/03 “Agreed, howevr, you have to have overwhelming force to fight a war. If we go any were else, we need more people, it's just a numbers thing. If we had to go into Sudan, let's say next year, I don't think that would leave us with enough people to take care of any other situation that might come up.” 8:48:04 AM 11/03/03 “Oh yes. We can't spread ourselves too thin. If something else comes up I feel we should tell the UN to deal with it. Let them carry their own load for once.” 8:53:37 AM 11/03/03 “Nigal, I think we may already have bitten off more than we can chew. I've been seeing some numbers indicating that we may understaffed in Iraq by 200k troops, currently. Also, the last time the draft boards were filled was in the early 80s. They have been in their current state since then.” 10:27:08 AM 11/03/03 “So, Pead, just to clarify, are yu saying that these positions are being filled due to some leaving, or have they been dormant and are now being revived? Sorry, I musta missed something.....” 11:55:59 AM 11/03/03 “I heard an interview this morning with a retired general, cannot remember his name. He indicated that we have aroung 130,000 troops in Iraq right now. He added that htis is not enough and that an additional 100,000 should be sent. Stupid question but anyone know the approx. size of our armed forces right now?” 12:11:31 PM 11/03/03 “thank you Bill Clinton” 3:29:18 AM 11/04/03 “Beautiful.” 3:30:26 AM 11/04/03 “If you beleive we will be in Iraq along time and if you beleive that the acts of terrorism will only escalate then it does make sense that a draft will be needed.” 4:52:36 AM 11/04/03 “WK - Those additional 100,000 troops should have been there in the first place. Lumberjack - That's what a lot of kids are worried about right now....” 8:05:57 AM 11/04/03 “Yeah - with 4 teenagers that'a what I'm worried about, too. Not so easy to dismiss it as bullchit from where I stand.” 8:11:31 AM 11/04/03 “Try not to. (easy fer me to say...)” 8:15:54 AM 11/04/03 “I would think with people’s concerns about their children they would be even more motivated to take care of business now rather than leaving the tyrants of today as a legacy for their children to deal with later.” 8:36:17 AM 11/04/03 “One of the many reasons behind the Revolution!” 8:38:57 AM 11/04/03 “In related news... New military mortuary opens DOVER -- A new, $30 million military mortuary was dedicated at Dover Air Force Base on Monday, a gleaming, brightly lit, state-of-the-art facility. *snip* The 70,000 square-foot Charles C. Carson Center for Mortuary Affairs is about twice the size of its predecessor, which was cobbled together in piecemeal fashion over the past half-century. *snip* The new mortuary was built with efficiency in mind. Air flowing through its ventilation system is turned over 15 times an hour to ensure that odors and chemical fumes don't cause problems for workers. It has almost 200 linked computer stations, about 10 times the number of computers at the old facility. A pen-and-ink board system to keep track of arrivals and departures of remains has been replaced with a real-time computerized tracking system. A safe room where remains are scanned for unexploded ordnance has foot-thick concrete walls and blast-proof doors and windows that can withstand the force of half a pound of C-4 explosive. At the old mortuary, workers had to be evacuated as a safety precaution if unexploded ordnance was detected. The new mortuary has rack storage for 380 caskets and is equipped with 24 autopsy/embalming stations, compared to four permanent stations at the old facility. "I never want to run 24 autopsy stations at a time," Giles said. "Because now I know I'm talking about hundreds, if not thousands of fatalities.... That's capacity I never want to see."” 1:58:21 PM 11/04/03 “I don't know if posted this on this thread or not, but the US Government has restricted all visual images of coffins either coming off of the plane or going on. They just don't want to people to see that.” 2:14:26 PM 11/04/03 “I would encourage everyone to vist this site, especially those of us with teenaged loved-ones. sometimes, we need a Friend ” 2:29:50 PM 11/04/03 “here's an interesting article from Col. Hackworth http://www.sftt.org/cgi-bin/csNews/csNews.cgi?database=Hacks%20Target.db&command=viewone&op=t&id=41&rnd=691.4550110117522” 3:01:45 PM 11/04/03 3:04:16 PM 11/04/03 “It's not likely that the draft will be restored. At the beginning of the Iraq war (or maybe just before it began), two U.S. representatives brought a bill to restore the draft before the House; it must have been defeated. If you think there're protests over the war withOUT a draft, just envision the marches, etc if there was a draft! I just don't see Mr Bush ever going for a draft unless, maybe he wins a second term and he personally has little to lose. There won't be a draft in 2004.” 3:05:09 PM 11/04/03 “Besides that wasn't there a pretty big jump in people joining up after 9/11?” 3:09:59 PM 11/04/03 “yep, but since then I think most branches have failed their recruiting quotas. Additionally there are a whole bunch of Reserves and Guards on the books that are non-deployable” 3:20:12 PM 11/04/03 “There was a bill introduced H.R.3598 which proposed that ALL young men REGISTERED for selective service be MANDATED to receive "basic" training for "up to" one year. "Universal Military Training and Service Act"” 3:33:22 PM 11/04/03 “Thanks, Donman, for the link and info to Hack's site. That would be a little concerning. I used to play in a band with to Marine Combat Engineers who were in the Reserves. They were in great shape and took pride in making sure they were ready for duty. Looks like the Military has MORE work to do....” 3:36:03 PM 11/04/03 “I read that there was a surge in calls to recruiting offices but enlistments didn't increase.” 3:36:54 PM 11/04/03 “Many countries, some even domacracies, have a manditory service period. Doesn't sound too bad to me. In hindsight I wish I would have served.” 3:37:32 PM 11/04/03 “Yeah, but those countries don't have a Bill of Rights.” 3:48:53 PM 11/04/03 “Ok, I give, who is Festering? At least choose a name that is close to your origanal. LOL!” 3:50:28 PM 11/04/03 “Honestly, I think everyone at 18 should have to work in a Restruant for one year. Might shape up some 'tudes in this Country.....” 3:52:26 PM 11/04/03 “Personally, I prefer beer on tap, but sometimes all you can get is a bottle.” 3:53:17 PM 11/04/03 “Hey Bit, shut the foch up! Nobody is forcing you to read or post to this thread and just perhaps, it IS very important (perhaps critical) in the lives of some of us and our families. Did I make myself clear? If so, don't respond. Dipwad.” 3:56:10 PM 11/04/03 “Wow, somebody needs a beer really bad.” 3:56:58 PM 11/04/03 4:00:09 PM 11/04/03 “"it IS very important (perhaps critical) in the lives of some of us and our families." But not important enough to use your real name?” 4:05:37 PM 11/04/03 “I've also found that good weatherstripping can stop a nasty draft.” 4:11:17 PM 11/04/03 “Craig, is that you?” 4:14:02 PM 11/04/03 “bit - You choose this thread to break your 'no politics' pledge on and then you work to piss someone off? Sure you haven't done this before?” 4:14:07 PM 11/04/03 “bitpusher - Maybe he got some foul beer___put a sour taste in his mouth. Ok, I give, who is Festering? At least choose a name that is close to your origanal. LOL!"I agree, Nigal But this guy must be really tough. Did you see what he said to bitpusher? We better be quiet while they finish solving the world's problems.” 4:17:47 PM 11/04/03 “Oh #&%!$ it. I'm with Nowslimmer on this one. Y'all have fun.” 4:19:49 PM 11/04/03 “I see a huge benefit to mandatory service, a deeper appreciation for your nation and the importance of being involved actively (not talking BS on trail talk). Though other types of service could be equal. Perhaps something like this... Two years in the military, active for men and women 18 years old or 3 years full time work for amodern equivalant of the CCC or another organization whose function is to strengthen America and build a higher level of respect and love for this Nation its history and heritage. The down side of mandatory service is that is removes the right of the individual to decide which is counter to traditional American ideals. If this generation were not such spoiled misguided and selfish little knuckleheads I would prolly like the idea less. The kids I see in our three local high schools are disappointing as a whole. I think many need a swift boot in the @ss and some discipline and direction. Perhaps focusing on something outside of themselves for a change.” 8:43:02 PM 11/04/03 “If you will poll most Draftees from Viet Nam most of them will tell ya that they Darn proud to serve. As for me I don't think we will ever need to draft because volunteers are at an all time high right now believe it or not. I am a recently retired Recruiter from the U.S. Army and proud as hell that I did my time!” 9:16:13 PM 11/04/03 for perspective.... “how many people can we afford to loose in iraq vefore it's too much and we leave? i say every single one of us. every man, woman and child. we should fight this fight to the last person. it's about changing the face of the middle east. not about oil, or WMD's. it's about inserting freedom to a region that has never known it. 25,000 people are murdered in this country every year. 9 people die every day here from falling down. at the current rate, it would take 72 years to reach the number of deaths we had in vietnam. the french lost 4,000 lives in our revolutionary war. 4,000 of them sacrificed their lives to help us be free. we have lost 350 to help iraq and afghanistan be free. 40,000,000 people free for 350 lives.....” 11:08:41 PM 11/04/03 “I think we all owe Clinton a huge kick in the nuts for pulling out of Samolia. This is a battle of wills. Iraq has known it would be and they believe all they have to do is make it ugly enough because they think we havn't the stomach for a real fight. This is one of the reasons they used the descriptive, "House to house fighting" when describing the battle for Bagdad.” 11:17:10 PM 11/04/03 “exactly nige, they are trying to break our will. nbc, cbs, abc, npr, cnn, violin, alaska.....they all want us to leave....just like the terrorist do. it's a joke. i heard a soldier the other day, when the helicopter was shot down...and he goes...."how come when one of us gets killed it's front page news but when we open another water trreatment plant or school nobody even notices?" wonder why they didnt run the torture video on those networks.....hmm.... wonder why liberals don't talk about that .....hmmm..... wonder why ....oh yeah... JIHAD BUSH!” 11:25:19 PM 11/04/03 “And of course when a soldier dies they hate Bush and blame him...not the terrorist. What tourture video?” 11:27:35 PM 11/04/03 Jump to Page |  1 | 2
