One wrong makes a right?

Uh......what?

No, but it already has.

That makes no sense. On the one hand you are claiming the politicians don't HAVE TO be concerned about their children (hence the need for the draft), and now you're saying that they already do. Have you thought much about this at all? I don't think so."

I have said nothing of the sort.

The nation's security is now at greater risk because of Dubya's wrecking of Iraq.

No, but it already has.

That's what you're saying. You're okaying the ethical dilemma based on the opinion that we're already in one.

I have said nothing of the sort.

You certainly did! Please tell me which one of these you did not say:

1) The politicians are quick to go to war b/c their children don't have to go.

2) (#1) is why we need a draft.

3) The politicians already do hesitate protecting America b/c they're concerned about their children.

I'll help you with the following quotes by you:

1) Exactly.
They don't care if they waste a few small town hicks and ghetto kids.

2) What Charlie is saying is that if you really want a war, let's have a real one....................shared sacrifice and all the rest.

3) No, but it already has.

Obviously, Rangel is sticking it to them, but...

We DO need more troops in Iraq.

The Reformed Lurker plan:

1) Institute a national service program. Kids have to serve a mandatory two years. In return, they make a basic wage and get their college tuition all paid for. People in the program get to choose from a number of choices including the military.

2) Increase troop pay and benefits. Increase recruitment.

3) Get rid of some overseas missions in places like Western Europe. Free up these troops to go to more needed areas.

4) Sit down with our "allies" around the world and see how these "allies" can take on some of the burden in non-Iraq areas.

5) Sit down with our enemies and friends in the Middle East and get them more involved.

Personally, I think it is foolish to leave Iraq any time soon. We need more troops there rather than fewer.

We don't need a draft to make that happen. But it takes a village.

Why does the right wing always get called hawks and such but it's always democrats who are floating the draft idea?

All the parents with teen aged boys were railing about the war and how their sons weren't going to fight Bush's war but yet their leaders from their own political spectrum keep trying to make their teen aged boys fight Bush's war? WTF?

Wasn't it always the wacko liberals running around trying to put conservatives on the spot by asking the loaded question, "Would you send your child to Iraq? YES OR NO!! WOULD YOU???!!!!".

I guess the liberals would...

Step back from politics for a moment.

Do you really think that it is in America's best interests to allow a million people die in Iraq?

Do you really think that it is in America's best interests to have a cataclysmic disruption of world oil supply?

So, I don't think that leaving is an option.

I actually think that the current situation is probably on the good side of what an invasion of Iraq looks like. It was a crappy decision at the beginning.

I think that more troops could make the situation better.

And I don't think that our current levels of troop loss are that bad considering the ambitious nature of the war.

BTW, continuing the war in Iraq should not stop us from making those who started the war pay for their actions.

Here's my solution. We go back in time and don't start the war in the first place. Unfortunately that isn't possible, and we're in a mess over there. I'm afraid walking away from it at this point would do more harm than good.

Top House Democrats to bar military draft plan

By Richard Cowan

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - A reinstatement of the military draft, being pushed by a senior Democrat, will not be slated for consideration in the House of Representatives, the chamber's newly elected top leaders said on Monday.

"We did not include that" in legislative plans for early next year, said Democratic Rep. Steny Hoyer of Maryland, who will be House majority leader when the new Congress convenes in January under Democratic control for the first time in 12 years...

When opening up the floor for all ideas on a solution for Iraq, we should be prepared to talk about everything so that a well-rounded decision can be made.

While I understand the spirt of the suggestion of mandatory, conscriptive military service, I do not favor a draft at this point in time. We need to see if there is a way to use the present force we have.

We also need to fire up the war machine and put people back to work making replacement material for the worn out stuff presently used in theater. We need to spend taxpayer money at home; the Iraqi's need to be put to work to upgrade their country.

Good thoughts Q. The truth of the matter is that this is just playing politics. Rangle is running around saying, "You can't possibly support this war and NOT support the draft.", which is hilarious because the first time his bill went through HE didn't even vote for it. So here it is a month and a half before the democrats take power and we already they are showing what their time in power is going to be about.

I'm all for examining every angle but this doesn't mean trying to push shlt through on the floor of Congress. How about a study panel or something to examine it first?

By the looks of it that process is not needed right now. The Democrats are not going to back him up on it at this point, so I think we can all look else where for other ideas.

It's precisely people like you who don't know what is necessary or not that we should leave that decision to elected officials.

Some people like you still think Iraq was not necessary b/c you've been told enough times from the MSM that it wasn't. Eventually you believe your own lies, initially started to mock and humiliate. It's good you're not President or Congress.

No Marko CHUCKIE wants to build the Crappy Military the libbies portray the military as today. It ever bother the libbies that they oppose wars where our national interest is at stake but "meals on wheels" and feel good crap like Sudan, Bosnia etal are fine to be there as long as we want?

It is part of their deepseated HATERED of the efficiency and drive for success the military constantly exhudes. I notice at town meetings that the Politicians who scream the loudest about the problems of the Police and Fire (LOL) are the ones who would never have made it.

We had a commission candidate who was slamming the department. Then I went through the rosters from years past. He quit after one training burn. He had volunteered but couldn't take the pressure.

But, alas, you can't force cowards to do anything brave, you have to draft them.
