Okay Marky Mark...
Gettysburg July 1863 more or less the
"turning Point"

Then there is

Chickamauga

Sept 19/20, 1863 - A decisive Confederate victory by Gen. Braxton Bragg's Army of Tennessee at Chickamauga leaves Gen. William S. Rosecrans' Union Army of the Cumberland trapped in Chattanooga, Tennessee under Confederate siege.

June 3, 1864 - A costly mistake by Grant results in 7,000 Union casualties in twenty minutes during an offensive against fortified Rebels at Cold Harbor in Virginia.

Many of the Union soldiers in the failed assault had predicted the outcome, including a dead soldier from Massachusetts whose last entry in his diary was, "June 3, 1864, Cold Harbor, Virginia. I was killed."

June 15, 1864 - Union forces miss an opportunity to capture Petersburg and cut off the Confederate rail lines. As a result, a nine month siege of Petersburg begins with Grant's forces surrounding Lee.

The fact that the dates have BIGGER numbers mean that they happened later....

"Unless the Terrorist start flying MIG 29s with laser guided bombs at our troops."

Or maybe F-14-15-16s provided by the U.S. government in the '70s and '80s.”

After all, we have to find some way to blame it on the U.S.

BTW ultra, while Hawaii is not part of the continental US, I would still consider it a direct attack on the US since it was aimed at a large US military base. That's how I interpreted the original post.

As much as I admire some of the southern participants in the U.S. Civil War, they never really had a chance.
The C.S.A. was up against an economic and industrial giant, XBaby.

Remember the words of Yamamoto about awakening a sleeping giant?
Though the scale of economic and industrial disparity between the Empire of Japan and the U.S. was far greater than that of the U.S.A. and C.S.A., they never really had a chance.

Hey call it what you want, pal.
It is an inconvenient truth that "our" military/industrial complex is rakin' in the dough from people all over the world some of whom have used and will use their products on our people.

No argument from me Tommy T, but who's to say our jets or weapons will be used against us quicker than those of the former Soviet bloc? Their weapons were sold to other countries with a lot less thought put into it than ours were. I don't have the documentation to back it up right now, but I'd be willing to bet there are more soviet and chinese weapons in the hands of anti-US groups than there are US weapons in those same hands.

If people don't want to take responsibilty, they can use the word 'blame' instead, I suppose. Who should feel any responsibility for supporting Mohammed Reza Pahlavi and his CIA-trained secret police (SAVAK)?

BTW,
It is now being reported that Iran is buying parts through improperly screened go-betweens to keep those F-14s flying.

Sleep tight.

I don't think we should lose sleep over the prospect of an Iranian F-14 flying to America and attacking us.

At any rate, would you argue that the current Iranian leadership is better than that of Pahlavi? Or was Pahlavi worse than his predecessor Mossadegh?
Sometimes your choice of who to support is not always the ideal choice, but it's the only choice you have. Or, you could say that people and their ideologies change with time, and not always for the better.

Whats with your name change by the way? Lose your password or something?

Yep, it's somewhere....

The folks on our aircraft carriers in the region may be concerned that our gov't is selling them the parts. I am too.

Taking out Mossadegh flies in the face of supporting democracy... unless that's just PR. That's the thing about elections. When the powers that be aren't too thrilled with who gets elected, it goes out the window. It makes a mockery of the whole thing.

After Pahlavi got through with the population, Iran was ripe for Khomeini's return... and we're paying for it still.

What are our options now? More shock and awe? good grief.
