An evening at Vee Lake

It was a splendid evening at Vee Lake. I had the entire lake to myself. I was miles from nowhere. Come to think of it, I hadn’t seen anyone for the last few days as I explored the Bear Lakes basin. I leaned back against a granite incline and watched the evening show from my campsite… the shadows slowly overtaking the lake while the sun still shone brightly on The Seven Gables. It was very quiet, and very beautiful. I was just about to whip out my stove and boil some water for dinner when I first heard it… a faint mechanical sound. It sounded like it was sputtering. But I wasn’t sure, it was too faint to discern. I thought perhaps a plane was in trouble, maybe a Dept. of Fish & Game plane planting trout in these remote backcountry lakes? But it was late in the day, so that didn’t seem right. The sputtering engine sound became louder and louder. I could make out a distinct chitty chitty sound, followed by a couple loud BANGS. As it drew closer I could hear faint singing over this repetitive chitty chitty – bang-bang engine sound. Then, WHOA!, over the ridge it came out of nowhere! I couldn’t believe what I was seeing? Could it BE? No way? The singing got louder, the sputtering engine got louder, and then they buzzed me overhead. I got a good look up them as it started raining Toot Sweets all over the lake. I couldn’t believe my freaking eyes. Yes, I think I’ve spent too many solo nights in the wilderness. No, I didn't report this incident to the authorities.

Toot sweets in the lake!

Chitty chitty bang bang, an engine running unevenly.

Water pollution AND air pollution.

That is why you carry guns in the back country, shoot the polluting b*stard down.

Once, but it was after large quantities of beverages of a refreshing nature.

that's my question - if it's candy and if I had been eating trail snacks and food for several days, I would be dreaming of filet mignons with wings fluttering into my lap...

A Toot Sweet... is that a friggin LOLLIPOP!!

Love this line from the movie
Caractacus Pott: You'll find a slight squeeze on the hooter an excellent safety precaution, Miss Scrumptious.
