Here is my sincere message to Buck. Stop creating 10 new threads everyday. Especially lame ones like this.

Buck,
Since you're leaving messages for yourself, I thought I would give you a hand... "Buck, remember to check shwag pile for gnd filters for 77 mm dia. lenses". :)

Seriously though, your photos are amazingly beautiful and you're an inspiration to struggling ameaturs like me. Any tips on when to use a hard vs. soft gnd and when to use just a neutral density filter?

Do you still use your photo.net page? I've stopped using mine because even with a cable modem, it always took so long for everything to load.

Thanks, reptiles! Okay, that was the first time I thanked a reptile. As for using hard vs. soft GND's, if there's a dinstinct shadow line, no matter what the angle, I use my hard stop and line it up the best I can. If the shadows are uneven, or creeping up a mountain, or if there's a foreground tree or object that would make the hard-stop line obvious to the eye, I'll use a soft. When in doubt, snap a bunch of shots with both variations and see what comes out best. As for a netural density filter, I don't own one or never used one, so I don't know. My guess is they are used to just generally darken a scene in case you wanna dome something like silk-out some water and use a longer exposure than what the natural lighting would allow.

And yes, I still use my Photo.net account, not so much my Buck Forester account as much as my other account with some newer stuff. Although I'm a paying subscriber, I have way more photos than they suggest as a max, oops! I gotta start deleting a bunch soon.

Do you have an online photo album? If so, care to share a link? I love checkin' out photos.

Buck,
my user name comes from a tatoo that I have.
Here's my photo.net site, I haven't uploaded to it in over a year though. I need a cheap slide scanner for web uploads (I was using my boss's slide scanner, but I have changed jobs). How long have you been seriously photographing?

Whoa, reptiles®, those are some fantastic shots! I especially like the Oregon waterfalls and the Zion backcountry waterfalls! Very very niiiice!

As for me, I've been takin' point-n-shoot photos for many years, documenting my trips, but was frequently frustrated at the results... how could I screw up such gorgeous scenery so often? I always saw gorgeous postcards and calendars with beautiful scenes, and mine never looked like those, except for the rare "luck" shot. I decided to learn how these guys and gals took such great shots, and although I'm still learning and my shots still aren't that great, I'm much happier with the results compared to what I used to shoot. Of course I'm also carrying more FREAKING gear than I used to, which can be cumbersome, and it also slows down some of my trips when I want to take time out to snag a photo, but I'm better able to share the beauty of places better than I used to. And for me my photography it's all about sharing beauty. The beauty I see in your photos is fantastic, and I mean that.
