“Do you guys still remember those old text games. I guess they are role playing games, I am not sure. I remember them, text only, no pictures. You type in if you want to go left, rigth, pick up, etc... I love those games. Anyone know where you can get them for windows??” 6:45:24 PM 11/05/03 WELL “MY SON STILL PLAYS ONE, HE AND HIS FRIENDS INVENTED IT.” 6:46:59 PM 11/05/03 “there's some online games like that, i never got into them much - i had a friend that was into achaea (sp?) similar to that... i remember those games, lol” 6:47:51 PM 11/05/03 “You are probably thinking about Zork.” 8:11:03 PM 11/05/03 “the original adventure game - xyzzy and away I go” 8:12:15 PM 11/05/03 “I think I am talking more about the dungon and dragon kind a games. At least I think so...not sure. No picture, just pick up objects, type in "left" "right" etc...” 8:21:10 PM 11/05/03 “Yeah, it was called Zork.” 8:22:55 PM 11/05/03 “yeah Gemini that's what the old adventure game was about pick up, drop n s e w ne sw etc. make sure you have the bird in the cage before you enter the room with the snake in it etc.” 8:25:51 PM 11/05/03 “Gemini, you just won 100 cool points. I love those old-school text based games! My first experience was one called "Pirates Cove" on the Texas Instruments TI994/A computer, back in the very early 80's. I also played "The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy" (a recreation of the novel) on the Commodore 64 frequently when I was a kid. Those games required you to use your puzzle-solving skills and imagination in order to win. Good stuff.” 8:27:07 PM 11/05/03 8:29:20 PM 11/05/03 “I think I have adventure on my Amiga. I also have Nethack. Anybody ever play nethack?” 8:47:47 PM 11/05/03 “Hay Artex - Say "Yoho" I didn't know anybody else in the world ever played that game. Kind of like "Hunt the Wumpus." Zork and the like were fun.” 8:50:49 PM 11/05/03 “LMAO @ Coop!!!!!!! Hunt the Wumpus is classic. I still own a TI 994A, but don't have the "Hunt the Wumpus" cartridge.... yet.” 10:16:06 PM 11/05/03 “I still have my original IBM PC, which I upgraded to an XT (with CGA graphics!) but no text games. I have a hard drive and drawer full of old CGA games though. Missile Command, Asteriods, Pac-man, in the water and with sharks instead of spiders, a game I can't remember the name of but it put you in command of a missile frigate that was three screens wide and you had to deal with mines, enemy ships and aircraft, and my personal fave, Fairy Godmom. It was sort of a maze game, where you picked up pennies along corridors between brick walls and up and down ladders, but you got a magic wand that could change brick into ladder for 5 seconds. The bad guys were crabs and you could wand them but you had to be careful or else you'd warp off into another dimension along with the crab. My kid somehow figured out how to open a screen with all 50 levels on it and just walk in the door to the level he wanted to play, but he won't tell me how to do it. Those were the days...” 3:29:45 AM 11/06/03 “Ahhhh, the 'Commode' 64 as my buddy called it. He was a big Amiga fan. I finally threw it out a few years ago. I nearly cried.” 7:03:46 AM 11/06/03 “my 64 is still upstairs...i remember wumpus and zork...god there was another one i played... ARGH!...heh i still have a box of 5 1/4 floppies with games on em too, my cradle modem is up there too...ahh the local bbs” 7:55:19 AM 11/06/03 “I cut my teeth on DOOM and that was the begining of a life long adiction. Before that I played Atari, the good old 2600.” 7:59:07 AM 11/06/03 “Back then, if you didn't have an Apple, you had d1ck. Trash 80, commode 64, etc. - all pieces of sh1t.” 8:24:49 AM 11/06/03 “Balderdash rocked! And "Pirates" was pretty cool, you needed to think.” 8:36:13 AM 11/06/03 “I remember the Mac had similar games with good graphics and sound. I could never play zork or the like after that. Mac was so far ahead of its competitors at the time.” 9:12:20 AM 11/06/03 “For those of us who had to mow lawns to buy computers - The Apple was just too many lawns. There were more tempting opportunities along the income spectrum. I would have missed a year of Munchman on my TI994A if I'd waited for enough coin to buy an Apple. They always looked nice in the magazines and in the computer lab though.” 10:34:13 AM 11/06/03 “Anybody else own a Timex/Sinclair?” 10:35:34 AM 11/06/03 “Gee, and when I was growing up, I thought Pong was fun. Then when Atari hit the scene, we thought we had died and gone to heaven.” 10:48:39 AM 11/06/03 “I never owned a Mac but my older brother worked at a Mac dealer in high school. The owners were cool enough to let us hang out and mess with the machines.” 11:02:26 AM 11/06/03 “Bit, no, but I want one!!!! I'm into collecting old computers (or at least I used to be). Anybody else use emulators? I have one that turns my PC into a Commodore 64, and another one called MAME, that runs all of the old school arcade games using the exact same source code (Crazy Climber, Donkey Kong, Pac Man... you name it, I have it.) :-)” 11:20:17 AM 11/06/03 “Unfortunately, I tossed my old Timex/Sinclair many years ago...” 12:08:21 PM 11/06/03 “Bit, that's sacrilidge! I'm sure I could pick up a Sinclair on e-bay. I picked up the 99/4A and an Atari 2600 there with ease.” 12:16:21 PM 11/06/03 “I know, especially considering the fact that I am keeping (for no apparent reason) the motherboard from an IBM XT clone...with the 640K of memory, individual chips!” 12:21:24 PM 11/06/03
