Just a wee, small report.... “on a HIKE! At La Crosse, WI. I opted not to go to the Phil Oren boot fitting clinic in Iowa City Saturday (my friend where I could have stayed never called back. What's the deal??!!? I got BO???!) I went to La Crosse instead and just got the run-o-the-mill Superfeet insoles, green. I had them before, liked them and wore them out. It was time to get them for my new Asolos! Also, I found out the store -- Valley Ski and Bike -- does the custom fit, where they do a mold of the foot. That's over $100. I'll hold off on it for now. So I went to Hixon Forest to do a hike. It's a "city forest" (so don't get all excited!)... Took a trail to the top of the bluff. Ran into five other people along the way. While they may have looked at me funny with trekking poles, I must say the guy with his hands above his head, pumping small hand dumbells was the REALLY STUPID LOOKING ONE!!! lol! On top I headed off to where I thought some trails came back down. Sunset was fast approaching, so I said, "Aw hell, I'm gonna bushwhack down this hillside." Which was OK... tons of fallen leaves. Finally followed a stream gully. Scared two whitetails. And I'm thinking, GEEZ, when is this gonna come out at the golf course or hit a trail??? (there's a gold course in the valley below) FINALLY, I hit a trail (yes indeedy, my instincts were correct) So back to the Jeep I went. Maybe an hour hike with some good elevation gain (read that for 300-400 feet here. LOL) aaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhh... Superfeet are GOOD!” 10:54:36 AM 11/09/03 Just a wee, small report.... “on a HIKE! I thought it was very important to put "THE END" at the end, so you wouldn't be waiting for Part II!!” 10:56:58 AM 11/09/03 “I am glad you enjoyed the day, lizs. Even short dayhikes are enjoyable this time of year.” 9:39:21 AM 11/10/03 “And to finish the weekend: geocaching in the neck of the woods where I grew up. Someone had placed a couple caches there. I've had a cache sitting around, waiting to place, so I looked at a canoe launch right by my old high school.... except the place I wanted to put it would have been on private property (only place to get it up out of potential flood waters of the Turkey River). It would have been between the other caches. Oh well... it awaits some perfect spot.” 9:46:55 AM 11/10/03
