How did you find TT?

“The bragging thread (or "bragin" as it's spelled in the Tea world) got me thinking about how we all ended up here.

So post the story behind how or why you found the site, what drew you here. And did you backpack before you "entered the mess" or not?

heared about this other stove called TrailStove. It sounds like the Sierra Zipstove but somehow it is different. Has anyone tried this new one. It only costs 19.95 so im not sure if it is worth all of that money lol."

“Believe it or not, a troll told me about this place.

I know, I know, it’s hard to imagine but I think it was nutsac who posted the URL on another backpacking board.

I was drawn in by the freewheeling nature of this place and how active it was. Other boards have caught up some, but this place used to get way more posts than anywhere else.

And yes, I backpacked for many years before coming here (rumors about my poseurhood notwithstanding).”

I did a search for backpacking sites, cuz I was kinda interested in trying out backpacking after really getting into hiking.

I found TT.... and I'd still like to try backpacking.

I discovered Trail Talk while roaming around the internet in '97.....just kinda fell in.

The rest, as they say, is history.

I think I lurked for about a month before I got brave enough to post. I got a much friendlier reception than most newbies get around here, but then in my first post, I was giving someone some info instead of asking for it.”

“it was with the "other" boards moral support, that I was able to do my first solo backpacking trip. for that I am thankful. I am sure had I come to you freaks, I still would be to terrified to do an overnight by myself....”

However, what prompted me to do that search was trying to find like minded people. I'd always hiked and camped, then took up backpacking on my own about 13 years ago - very, very low budget, and dragged my boyfriend and son along. I loved it, they hated it, so I started leavin' them home.

I was tickled to find this place, even though the majority of posters were from the south or west.

They were great fun and so nice to a stranger that they told me about Trailtalk. And as for braggin' rights, that was about 1 1/2 years ago.”
