Saturday we hiked Corkscrew Peak, drove to Zabriskie Point and hiked Manly Beacon, then had dinner at Furnace Creek.

Sunday we hiked Thimble Peak and drove through Titus Canyon, with stops at Leadville and the Petroglyphs.

So, do the snowpeople ever hike anywhere that doesn't have a name with strange sexual connotations?

Sonja and I...
slept in the car just below corkscrew peak in April. It was the first sight I saw in the morning daylight of Death Valley. It was amazing.

I wouldn't mind doing that hike in Jan. How long was the hike in miles and how long did it take?

Stikmon, the hike is about 3 or 3.5 mi each way, with about 3300' el gain. We went straight up to the low spot, followed a use trail (steep - probably sheep trail) to the right, and made our way to the next lowe saddle. From there we found the trail. Another guy came up that trail, so we went down it. STEEP! Then we lost it and ended at a cliff. We saw another trail (another sheep trail) that traversed to our original trail. We beat the other guy down. Our times are on the photos (from the digital camera). I think it was 3 hrs up and 2:15 hrs down. We could see the southern Sierra stuff we had done in the last few weeks (Cirque, Langley, Whitney, Keeler, and probably Lone Pine Pk) from Corkscrew Peak.
Winterfest depends on Mammoth conditions. I don't know if I can get SnowDude away from the condo. He's been working hard so he can spend more time there.

Phaedrus & WW: I guess I seem to find those funny names, eh?

I'm a newbie in the desert, so I kept saying "Wow!". The Sheephead was kewl! (and really heavy!)

And after we got back, we found a report that said "don't go straight up the front".

Doh!

This was a FUN hike!
