Gonzo - If you fly into Ontario Friday night, either wingding or I could swing by and get you early Saturday morning. Lots of hotels by the airport. It is on my way and not too far out of wingding's way. 5 hour drive then lunch and last minute supplies in Bishop, then off to Table Mountain campsite. After people arrive we will begin "the great car shuttle."

After the hike, we are staying at the Creekside Inn on Friday night and then heading home Saturday. We could help someone get to the airport.”

sounds good....i've finalized my travel plans....i will arrive in ontario on friday evening and i'm staying at the ramada airport....i have reservations at the creekside for the following friday night and i'm on the redeye back to columbus on saturday night....

“Ok, because of all you early birds, the July 10 & 11 permits are taken. So I have a reservation for July 12.

My plans are to fly into Reno on Friday and get to the ranger station by 11 am on Saturday and pickup a walk-in permit.

Now I guess I need to go buy some plane tickets.”

“Matt, maybe you should plan to arrive in time to join us at the TH, just in case someone can't make it.”

“Oh yeah, I'll be there. I plan on going through the Ranger station on Saturday, so I will be at the Table Mountain campground with the group on Saturday night. The phone reservationist sounded like it would be fairly easy to get a walk-in permit. She thought that they give out about 16 a day. I just have to get there early.”

Jerry and I are doing everything possible to lighten our loads compared to what we carried on the Sierrapalooza. Which means we aren't real likely to add liquid refreshments. I've been searching everywhere for dehydrated water. No luck so far.”

“cubfan - With my son, I can take one more comfortably in my Grand Prix, either you or gonzo. Wingding offered to carpool also. She lives in Redlands. Naviguesser is full.

My best suggestion now is that I swing by and pick up gonzo at the Ramada Inn and you ride up with wingding. If she comes back on Friday and you wanted to stay until Saturday, then you could ride with me and either she or Nav could carry come gear back for us.

“Hey Wingding, Phil says you are still looking to carpool. Is that correct? I am looking to share a ride, if possible. If not I will drive myself, but still need to decide if I want to stay over Friday night.

As a side, if I do drive myself I can easily pick some up if they are coming through Ontario Airport. Having only a sports car I can not fit a whole lot in my car.

“I've been chatting with WW on the Canon Rebel thread. His work is particularly demanding right now. Maybe is way better than not at all.

We've been talking about getting radios, but maybe 3 sets is overkill.”

“Sorry I have been so coy lately. Mostly I read TT at work and I can't post from there anymore. I am also not sure what to do about this trip. I have had a bad spring with the arthritis crap and haven't been as active as I really need to be to be in shape for a trip like this. I got a prescription for a new drug that I am hoping will change my life but the only person on staff at the doctor's office who is capable of filling out the forms (note the dripping sarcasm) went on vacation for a month so starting the drug was delayed for about 6 weeks. I am supposed to start the drug on Wednesday and some people say they get almost instant relief. Some people aren't helped at all so we'll see where I fall. The upshot is that I am pretty out of shape. I took a 10 mile hike to Loch Leven Lakes yesterday and felt pretty good but of course that was without a pack and I don't think I could have done much hiking today.

So I am up in the air. It might make more sense for people to rendezvous in Stockton, especially since noone is flying into Sacto. I am tempted to figure out a trip of my own doing something like hiking in for the first day with the group and staying at that site for a couple of days of lazing and day hiking then hiking in to the last night's campsite to meet up with the group on the way out. I welcome everyone's good wishes and anyone's good ideas. It kills me to think that I would be missing a hike with matt, the webmaster (and everyone else).”

While you are deciding what feels right, remember that we will happily share gear with you so you can get your pack weight down. Also, you are welcome to use my solo Sierra Designs tent. It weighs about 3 lbs and is my favorite tent for comfort.”

“pepper, sorry to hear that the arthritis is still acting up. wannabp had a great idea! We can share some gear so your load is much lighter. You can share my waterpump and my stove. Someone else can share their other gear as well I'm sure. If I have room in my bear can and someone else has room in theirs, you won't have to carry that either. Just carry your clothes, tent, & bag. I'd hate for you to miss out on this trip if you didn't have to.

“I'm not driving up until Saturday afternoon (I'll get there later in the evening) and I'll be heading home right after the trip.

We spent the last few days in the eastern Sierra. We took the Meysan Lake Trail up to Grass Lake and then did Lone Pine Peak - great views from the peak. There wasn't much snow out there.”

“Where is the group staying Saturday night, before the hike? It looks like I am probably driving up alone. I do not know anyone and not sure how to locate the group. Do I need to make a campground reservation for that night? Any help and information will be greatly appreciated.

“Navi reserved the group campsite. Go back in the thread for the particulars. As for recognizing people, I think there's only one group camp site. Sometimes, we see groups and say"TT, TT?" The people who look bewildered are the wrong ones.”
