Potluck on!
Yes, the potluck is still on. I'm bringing some marinated chicken for me, Hodge, and ladyhiker. Then I'm bringing two loaves of garlic bread and some veggies in foil to share with everyone.

wannabp is taking care of the paper products. And you have mail!

Rockman, for sure come on over to my house Friday night and we'll all go out to dinner. Do you like sushi? There's a new sushi bar in town. If not, how does Mexican sound?

Hodge, I just this minute heard from my friend who said the Friday Night Live thing isn't until next Friday. Bummer. But we can go for either sushi or Mexican? Hell, I'm game for anything! We'll all be on vacation! Woo hoo!

ladyhiker, it will be good to see you again. And you are more than welcome to the couch which is the least I can do since you shared your tent with me for most of last year's trip. Hated that bivy!

I'm gonna be eating cold tuna for the next week so I think I would prefer mexican. :)

We are bringing about 5 lbs of marinating chicken breasts to share. Maybe people flying in can push it around on the fire in trade for some. I want to bring watermelon, too.

gonzo - Don't worry. We will be stopping in Bishop and you can grab something for the potluck there. Schaat's Bakery is a must stop for us.

Matt - I could also bring white gas for you, but it looks like you are covered.

As far as I know, Kelli is still coming. I will email her about the potluck and such. Maybe she will post. FYI, she is from the bay area.

Didn't know Kelli's from the bay area. Do you think she'd want to get in on the carpool, Phil? I'm guessing we can still squeeze one more in.

As of this minute, I am ON VACATION !! Woo Hoo !!

Hikerchic - The closest I get to sushi is tuna in a can
;-)
Mexican sounds good to me.... so long as there's margaritas involved
:-))

wannabp, thanks for the gas. I hope the gas came from a store bought container and not the Mexican restaurant you are going to on Friday.

geologyguy - In the trip page description for the trip, it says, "No crampons allowed.". What does that mean? Is that an official rule where we are going, or what? If we are going over Lamarck Col, crampons could be handy.
Phil

Phil, orignially it was a joke. But you can bring them if you want; however, I don't think the Col is that bad.

no sushi for you!
Ok, ok. No sushi. Mexican & margaritas here we come! We might be meeting up with a few of my girlfriends too.....Rockman. :)

Oh, Rockman! Thank you for reminding me. I forgot to get tuna or that salmon in a pouch. I love that stuff. I'll have to go to a 7-11 & steal some mayo packets.

Do you want to carry crampons for 6-days just do go over Lamark Col? I'll bet there's a beaten path over the Col by now and that slushy stuff just balls up on the crampons.

I'm hoping to go over the Col on the 16th or 17th and then into Darwin Canyon for a day or two, which means that at least 20 people will have gone over the Col by the time I get there - should be an easy trail to follow in the snow.

gonzo, how about bringing some potato or macaroni salad from one of the grocery stores and whatever meat you want to bbq? I lost track. Is Phil picking you up and does he have an ice chest for the food? Or is Navi picking you up? I'm so confused! =:o

Hodge, I know you're gone but I'll still wish you a safe trip & see you at my place tomorrow afternoon.

Rockman, what time are you coming to my place tomorrow?

Oh you guys and your light packs! How do you do it? I'm jealous! I don't have a scale but I know if I add everything up, it's about 40-45. It's my food that's heavy. All those trail bars. Do you not carry those?
hikerchic5

7/08/04

hikerchic - I may have an small ice chest, depending on how many people I have with me. We should be able to grab some sort of side dish in Bishop to bring to the potluck.

I'm not done packing yet, but I determined to be under 40 lbs with water, food, camera, and GPS. My new gear rocks. Thankfully gear is reuseable!!!

Phil, about kelliforki. I got an email from her about 2 weeks ago asking if she can share my room but haven't heard from her since.

Like Hodge wrote, she can drive to Stockton and either carpool with us or hitch a ride. Kelli....where are youuuuuu?

I almost forgot about the navi-ale! So how is it navi? Did it turn out good!

Help!
I almost forgot. I was going to rent the bearikade and it was supposed to be deliver at my work today........but it never showed up. So, I left them a nice little message after 5:00 today.

Does anyone have a garcia I can borrow? I was going to finish packing tonight and now I can't. Big bummer!

I think I'll swing by a deli in Stockton and pick up some Armenian Rolls. That's what I was taught they were called anyway.

Sheila, what time is good for you for me to be at your pad? When are Hodge and Kris expected? I still need your address and might as well give more phone # too. Are your "women friends" coming for din-din? :)

Will there, by chance, be a bear box at camp the first night? My canister is overflowing! :(

Whew! ok, I'm calm now. Bill, don't know yet about the girls being there for din din. I'll write you my address at your yahoo mail ok? Don't want to give it out to just anyone here. There are a lot of weirdos on websites, ya know? You're all weirdos!

oh, gonzo thank you! But you're flying in. Don't worry about it. If I don't hear from anyone else here, I think I can rent one at REI? I don't know. I'll have to check out my other options now. Thank you so much for offering though!

ok, thanks Phil.

Rockman, you have mail!

Hikerchic, we have an extra Garcia. I just called Jerry to have him put it on top of my pack so I won't forget. Can you believe I'm still at work??!!??

EVERYONE ELSE--if someone has a Bearikade, don't hold back offering just because Hikerchic's got a Garcia. Give the girl a break.

What's this 'Tekdude, say it isn't so' stuff? He's still coming, isn't he? Tell me I don't have to depend on my oh-so-questionable navigational skills to get to and from Chasm Lake.

Sorry to hear you won't be joing us Tekdude :(

I arrived safely at Old Timer's place, in southern Oregon, a few hours ago. Finally got to meet his lovely wife and had a great dinner.

Lady Hiker will be here by 8 tomorrow morning and we'll hope to be on the road by 9. Not sure what time that gets us into Stockton, but we should be late afternoon, if all goes smoothly
