Hiking in MARCH!
I'm trying to plan a 7 day backpacking trip for a group 10-15 college students. We're a group of outdoor education leaders from Kalamazoo College. We plan to be out for 7 days, not including travel to and from location, in late March. Any trail suggestions would be EXTREMELY helpful. As of late we've been looking at the Black Creek Trail in Mississippi. Any thoughts on that? Thank you!

The Long Trail in Vermont is a nice, well maintained trail. They have platforms at most sites and awsome scenery.

Side Note: Ohio State is going to crush Michigan this weekend!

Good luck with the hike, and welcome to TT.

I've never been to Georgia
Better watch out for those guys that think you have a "Perty Mouth" Two Scoops.

I heard it is pretty. I personally like the south. Fell in love with it last year.

I will be coming to visit my daughter in April, after visiting Arizona, New Mexico, Texas and then Indiana, Illinois, and down to KY and then back home.

Good luck on your hike.

Never hiked that trail but I have a good book on the long trails of the south. It's got some great info on several trails.
Long trails of the Southeast
Johnny Malloy is the author

Keep in mind that Knoxville, Tn is a long one day drive anything over that will mean you are burning 4 days in travel (2 down and 2 up).

A few other suggestions for locations would be Big South Fork National River and Recreation area, any part of the Appalachian Trail, Great Smoky Mountains NP or any of the National Forests around Tn, NC and north GA. Lots of great hiking in that area.

Welcome Frog! Can't answer your question but I did graduate from Loy Norrix HS, and never went to college! Uncle Sam took me. But, a friend, Mr. Paul Eckert, went to K-College. I hear it is a great school.

Frog, I am planning an April Trip to Caprock Canyon in North Texas in April.

60 mile Caprock Trail and Palo Duro is also nearby.

I have been obtaining the maps and trail information and would recommend you at least consider going there in March.

I haven't hiked the Black Creek Wildnerness Trail but will probably take it in in January. Leatherneck, (a TT'er) was there a year or so ago and reported the trail was in pretty bad shape from what I can remember.

A better bet, if you want a "southern" hike, would be either Sipsey or possibly the Azalea Trail in Central Louisiana.

Also, if shuttles are not a problem, you should at least consider the Cumberland Trail in East Tennessee.

duh,,,I guess an April trip will pretty much always be in April won't it.

I am hoping to hit wildflower peak out there.
