I am planning on going. But I may have a small snag I need to overcome to make it for sure...” 2:11:25 PM 1/05/04 “heh heh heh” 2:12:08 PM 1/05/04 “ynami...save yourself!! stay in DC!! :-)” 2:12:11 PM 1/05/04 “This is going to be another one of the top TT trips!!!! And the year is just getting started! 8)” 9:27:21 PM 1/05/04 “I hope that we get to go! It looks like an awesome trip!” 9:41:54 PM 1/05/04 “what is the head count so far.....this is going to be a great hike!!!” 10:17:01 PM 1/05/04 “*raises hand* i'm in!” 10:57:52 PM 1/05/04 “wooohooo...looking forward to seeing you Miss Opie!!!!” 5:50:59 AM 1/06/04 “I think the headcount is upwards of 2,000,000 now. I think we'll make the news.” 7:46:51 AM 1/06/04 “We'll be the biggest city in SE TN for a day or two!” 8:26:04 AM 1/06/04 “There won't be any deadfall left in all of Savage Gulf...” 8:27:38 AM 1/06/04 “Unless the weather is going to be really bad. We will probably be there. I expect however, we will base camp and day hike.” 8:39:57 AM 1/06/04 “Aw, come on chili, it's only 25 miles in three days!” 8:41:28 AM 1/06/04 “Well, bp, that would be 25 miles in three days with all my gear; all cottonsocks snacks; all the girls gear; and probably a game boy snuck in my pack. Last two trips with kids, I averaged about 65 pounds,,,,,without beer. Nope, no backpacking for the girls until they can carry something.” 8:47:31 AM 1/06/04 “Oh. That's different. Savage Falls is good for that basecamping thing!” 8:50:23 AM 1/06/04 “I'll probably be basecamping as well. Was planning on baseing at Collins West on Friday when I arrive. I'm thinking the terrain is too much for my yunguns. But we're gonna get bagnights by gosh!” 9:04:06 AM 1/06/04 “How young, Roam?” 9:04:37 AM 1/06/04 “Girl is 9, boy is 12. They've been bping before and do ok on light mileage (the boy could hack just about anything though). We'll plan on dayhiking, but make the decision once I see the place. I don't want to burn my daughter out before she gets old enough to really get out.” 9:39:39 AM 1/06/04 “hey Roam, you gonna bring your puppy?? :-)” 9:40:35 AM 1/06/04 “I'm not coming to Tennessee to see some puppies Yam - I've fallen for that trick before :o)” 9:46:21 AM 1/06/04 “heh heh heh. ahhhhhhh c'mon!” 9:47:26 AM 1/06/04 “Is yam talking about showing off her puppies again?” 9:48:15 AM 1/06/04 “oh alright then..... - damn I'm easy!” 9:49:37 AM 1/06/04 “shhhhhh bit!! oh well, ynami fell for it anyway!! :-)” 9:50:52 AM 1/06/04 “Randy and I both have to work and won't be able to make it until Friday night. Is everyone else going Friday morning?” 11:27:25 AM 1/06/04 “There will be quite a few others arriving Friday night.” 11:28:22 AM 1/06/04 “Miss Opie, did you finally get moved to Nashville?” 11:33:18 AM 1/06/04 “Just read your reply, Roam. The distances might be a bit much for your 9yrold, but the trails we're taking Saturday and Sunday look pretty flat. Your 12yrold could probably handle it no prob.” 11:34:06 AM 1/06/04 Yam “No, no puppy this time. We ended up sending him off to live on a farm out in the country. Our apartment was becoming a little small for him and he was very unhappy when we're gone. :(” 11:35:06 AM 1/06/04 “I haven't checked out a real good map, except online. If it's fairly flat we might try it out. I'm sure the big kid could do it - he's pretty gung ho about another big trip.” 11:36:40 AM 1/06/04 “The only spot on the map that would give me pause for your 9yrold is a place called "Boulder Crossing" on the Collins Gulf trail. Everything else on the Collins Gulf and South Rim trails looks pretty flat.” 11:40:42 AM 1/06/04 “Honestly though, it's the distances that worry me. My daughter is almost 9, and on any hike longer than a mile, she's complaining and needing to stop for a break. I can't imagine taking her on the 5.5 miles hike from Collins West to the Stage Road campsite. But if you think your daughter is up to it, she can probably do the hike with no problems.” 11:46:14 AM 1/06/04 “She does pretty good, on any good uphill climb she whines and gets tired. We might be slow, but I'm not worried about her doing 5.5 miles - we did a little over 6 this weekend on a dayhike. It was a heckuva climb and that kicked her butt (almost got mine). Once we made the top and started back down she was good!” 11:54:38 AM 1/06/04 “weather.com is showing a pretty cold next Thursday evening, 14 degrees. Hopefully Friday thru Sunday evening lows are the same. BRING IT ON!!!!!” 12:06:50 PM 1/06/04 “"The only spot on the map that would give me pause for your 9yrold is a place called "Boulder Crossing" on the Collins Gulf trail." bitpusher 11:40:42 AM 01/06/04 No worries, bit, there's a suspension bridge over that one.” 1:58:32 PM 1/06/04 “Oo, that'll be better for me then, too! lol...” 2:00:37 PM 1/06/04 “Do the Savage Gulf creeks flow year 'round or do they dry up in winter?” 2:51:50 PM 1/06/04 “Can be dry in winter, but Father Goose and I were able to get water at Collins West last year this time. Don't know about Stage Road campsite though. Rain is forecast for the week preceding this trip, so creeks and springs may be full.” 2:54:09 PM 1/06/04 “Water can be found year-round at Savage Gulf, but it can get pretty dry in the summer. I did basically the same hike we're doing a couple of Christmases ago after it had been raining for 5 days. The creeks had turned to raging rivers and the falls were awesome.” 2:55:55 PM 1/06/04 “The worst campsite for water that I've been at was Sawmill. If the creeks are dry, then you have to hike half a mile to Schwoon Spring, then hang upside down with your Nalgene on a line to get water. Well, it's not that bad, but you do have to hike a while to get water, lol...” 2:58:36 PM 1/06/04 “well..I though Hobb's cabin was tough.....climbing back up that hill.....sigh...I must be getting old..LOL” 2:59:57 PM 1/06/04 “Hey divinity, if my kids and I decide to do the hiking you'll have company, heck you might even outpace us.” 3:13:56 PM 1/06/04 “Highly unlikely Roam...LOl.. & BTW...I love kids...will enjoy meeting them too!!! Will be good to See the Chili's kids again.......they were alot of fun at TC3” 3:41:32 PM 1/06/04 “Hope to sse ya at this one too! Yallll!yo bear!” 12:17:43 PM 1/07/04 “Oh merde, there goes the neighborhood. YO BEAR!!!” 1:24:47 PM 1/07/04 “...we're all goin' to jail...” 1:30:32 PM 1/07/04 “It looks like we'll have more than the 24 tent max for both nights. Does anyone see this as a problem? I've never been and don't know how aggressive the rangers are.” 2:16:20 PM 1/07/04 “If it's like most trips, many will sign up, but few will come. If it's a real problem, I can bring my Clip Flashlight 2 instead of my Light Year. I bet I can get yam and embear in that thing with me, lol...” 2:20:33 PM 1/07/04 “I will let Yam and embear stay with me in my tent. I know someone has to step up make that supreme sacrifice :)” 2:25:30 PM 1/07/04 “True, I bet they both snore. Small women are like that.” 2:26:04 PM 1/07/04 Jump to Page << prev
