When I was a television producer, well actually an editor, I worked on a documentary all about chocolate.

It sucked, but going on the shoots and getting free samples was awesome!

OK, so you'd need to meet up with us at Collins West Friday night, and park there...you could hike to Stage Road with us Saturday, then hike back out to Collins West parking lot (and your car) Sunday, about 2.5 hours if you really hoof it.

Local sunrise is about 7:00AM CST...if you got up early and started hiking out then you could be at your car around 9:30ish, 10:30ish EST. 9 hours later, about 7:30PM EST, you're back in DC...

Does that add up?

No prob, ynami. Sun's hike is only 6 miles. Just start it by headlamp and you'll make it.

The weather is not looking good for this trip I just hope the long term forcast changes for it.

It's too soon to worry about the weather for this hike...

I know you can't accurately predict weather this early, but the chance of precip keeps rising. I don't mind snow, I just don't want it to rain. The chance of rain is up to 40% right now.

If we do get an ice storm, at least we'll be able to say how pretty it looks before we freeze to death in our ice-covered tents...
bitpusher

I don't mind the ice either. 40% chance of rain with highs at 35 doesn't sound fun to me. I'll start worrying on Tues or so.

I should have known a trip that dayhiker planned would include freezing rain!

You may have a point bit. Of course, if the weather gets nasty I'll have to read about it on Monday myself.

I don't mind the cold, within reason, but cold rain blows. There is nothing fun about that.

Give that weekend a chance. It is still ten days away. It could be 60 degrees.

yeah but wounded knee, have you ever been on a trip with dayhiker? he always brings along the rain!

hopefully though the forecast will clear up, we won't know for sure until Tuesday or Wednesday if the weekend will include rain.
Miss Opie

Now that's not true. I've been on 2 trips with you Miss Opie and one time we had 2 inches of rain overnight and the other time it snowed 4-6".

I think that if we all think on the same page it will not rain or snow and the sun will be out and the temps will be pimp!

Come on people hope for good weather!

My first trip in my tarptent, which is also the one that Miss Opie is referring to, we had 2" of rain. That was my first TT trip by the way. I met MDS, OPIE, Miss Opie, Sandy, and Rabbittman. The OPIE's and Rabbitt had to bail with wet gear. It was an intersting trip.

How could I forget the snow dayhiker? lol TC2 was alot of fun though, snow doesn't bother me.

The first trip I met you on was my first TT trip too. I wasn't even on TT yet then.

My first TT trip (Sipsey) was also the first TT trip I planned and it was only the 4th trip I ever went on. It was probably this weekend 2 years ago or was it 3? This trip had lots of folks signed up and it was the same weekend as the Linville trip. A huge front came through that cancelled the Linville trip and a few idiots showed up at Sipsey.

Probably been asked, but how will the temps at the Gulf differ from the temps in the forcast? Very much?
MileMonster

If we were camping down in the Gulf, they might be different, but since we'll be up on the plateau, should be about the same. Seems like that's what walkindude said anyway.

Any weather forecast more than 2-3 days ahead is of little real use.
I just posted that about because I though we could use some good news, ha ha.

By next Wednesday we should be able to have a good idea of the temps and snow/rain.

The last trip I was going to go on was the Big Z. If I remember right, the weather changed like 10 times from bad to good to bad to worse.

The weather that weekend ended up being perfect!

Positive thoughts people!

we're backpackers...
be prepared, then it won't matter.

Focus on what food to bring...remember, its all about the FOOD!!! I'm gonna bring a wild boar, that we can roast over the open fire...can someone bring taters and onions?

Why not simply forage for wild tubers and ramps?

If the weather is decent I'm just going to grill and leave the stove behind. If it's raining then I guess I'm stuck with the stove afterall.
