It's starting to look like I'll be meeting up with you guys at Collins West. Was it safe to leave cars there or not - can't remember what the advice was and I'm being lazy to avoid reading the whole thread.

Collins West should be okay. It's the Greeter Falls parking lot where the break-ins have been taking place.

Hey Father Goose! Where are you getting such a long range forecast?
I just hope it's not gonna be 33 degrees and heavy rain.

accuweather.com has a 15 day forecast. I usually check it this early just because I get hyper about trips. You can imagine how accurate it is now.

Long range forecast, clear and cold. High around 30 and low around 10. Sunday is much warmer with a high of 39

I'm IN!!! and Khatru is pining to get out...he's so mad at me, its funny. I'll be arriving somewhere on Friday nite and staying till monday afternoon.

All I need to know is where to meet up on Friday nite and who all is going to be there and will someone be able to get me the necessary ranger rick permission slips before I arrive.

Permits!!!!
I just called the Savage Gulf Ranger Station (931-779-3532, note area code change) about permits. They are required, but are available self serve at the Collins West parking area where we will be Friday night.
The ranger said that parking area is not locked up at night so late arrivals should be able to get a permit there.
The rules say no night hiking, but the campsite is only about 1/4 mile away from the parking area.
Divinity and myself plan on getting there around 5 Friday afternoon and joining y'all then and coming out at the ranger station Sunday.
Will anyone have a car at the ranger station Sunday to shuttleus back to Collins West parking?
If not, maybe someone coming in about the same time could meet us and do a car shuffle late Friday?

stikmon - At this point I don't know who is showing up when. This time next week we'll need to get a rough idea of where and who to try to work out the shuttle issues.

On the main trip listing I'll post a list of folks and when I think they're showing up.

My understanding now is that most everyone is showing up Friday morning, EXCEPT: stickmon, divinity, SS, and..... I'll see what I can get from the thread.

I'm looking to do this hike.

I'll get there Friday a.m., too.

Bear in mind that I can shuttle lots of gear in the Mighty Mighty Tacoma's camper, and one additional person in the cab. We'll get all that stuff fingered out just okeedokalee.

Wow... my first hike in TN.

I think MDShiker said he was coming up from Huntsville starting at 2 pm Friday.

MDShiker - I'll be picking up divinity in Hartselle about that time. Maybe we could meet someplace in Huntsville and drive up and do a car shuttle at the ranger station?

WK - are you saying you're arriving Friday night?

I forgot MDS was showing up in the evening. He told Mr. Short-term-memory in person at Sipsey and I still forgot.

I'll be in a Ranger extended cab with camper shell and will be able to shuttle a good many folks.
