Surfpacking
Backpacking and surfing. Two of the most excellent diversions available to mankind.

Anyone ever combined them into one trip? Sounds like nirvana to me.

I wonder if there are any good breaks along the Napali coast in Kauai? There's gotta be some potential for a trip like this up in the pacific northwest.

A good friend and surf buddy of mine designed the skegs for a inflatable board that a friend of his designed and developed. It's a goofy looking "stick" to say the least, and I wouldnt want to try duck diving it but it was developed with the idea of hiking into remote surf spots in mind. This board is very rigid and taught to the touch when inflated.

Hey crustBro®, I've seen surfers backpack their boards to Big Flat from Shelter Cove on the Lost Coast. It's supposedly some pretty fine surfing there, and it combines a really wild beach backpack trip with catchin' some purdy gnarly waves. By the way, the "g" is silent in gnarly. Beware, this is not too far from the Red Triangle, where great whites look for elephant seals and surfers that resemble them.

ULI?
Hey, c bat, is this the product your friend worked on?

I wish I had money to throw down for one of those. I don't suppose you can carve a very hard turn on one, but it would still be fun to try.

Lost Coast
Buck,

That's an excellent idea! I've been there before (without a backpack or a board) and thought it was an amazingly beautiful place!

Surfpacking sounds pretty damned cool. Maybe you could pioneer the sport.

Heck, why not try for surf-telemarkski-peak bagging. You could call it Surtelemounting!

they do make boards you can break down in half-pope bisect is the maker.

Haven't surfpacked...but then again longboards weigh a ton...

In south Calif you can surf and ski/hike in the same day. About 100 miles between the beach & the mountains. Personally I like to enjoy one all day long - the problem is deciding which one! Would be kind of hard to lug my 10 ft 'plank' around all morning, then drive to the mtns.

I think Outside did a small article on this recently?
