STS-Link-BFT Loop
the weather this weekend was awesome, so i decided to check out this 26 mile loop in northcentral PA. the loop is formed by 4 trails, the susquehannock trail, black forest trail, north link trail, and south link trail.

the loop features terrain of moderate difficulty, beautfiul forests of spruce and hemlock, scenic streams, and great campsites. the trail often follows old railroad grades and cuts, some of impressive size. these grades were built over a 100 years ago by italian laborers.

one of the nicest sections of trail is along lebo run, a large stream that babbles underneath hemlocks with a great selection of campsites in an isolated gorge. very beautiful. wildcat hollow was also scenic with cascades and hemlock.

as for the porcupine, i wasn't attacked by one. but i did see a huge one cross a fallen log over lebo run, which i've never seen a porcupine do before. he got a whiff of me and stuck up his quills, but walked off.

The porcupine didn't walk off very fast did it? But who's going to hurry one along.

You should have given him a chorus of 'The Needle and the Dammage Done' and he would have left you alone! :)

A friend and I was lucky enough to see a porcupine in the MW of sierras. We were about 6500-7000 elevation in August. They are much bigger than I would have guessed....much more evasive too.

I didn't realize porkie sightings were so rare. Guess I better post mine here... Saw one in June at Hoist Lakes in northern Michigan.

WHAT! No attack! LMAO - nice TR, I especially like the part concerning the italian road grade. That's some good history!

BTW - Pay no attention to Tara, she's been drinking, I can smell it on her breath!

Rare.....heck you should hike the Devils path in the Catskills the are everywhere. What is rare is an outhouse that hasn't been eaten by them. They even wrap them in chicken wire to deter them from eating them.

Just ask Adventurist about it. It was like music to our ears to sleep to. Well maybe some of us...

Did you see when Steve-O from Wild Boys / Jackass let the porcupine stick him in the butt cheek? That dude is seriously mentally off. LOL!!!!!
The Crock Hunter was my favorite animal dude till Wild Boys.

Jackass got taken off the air cause some kid tried one of the stunts and set his feet on fire. Even Bevis & Butthead didn't get booted off the air for that. They just made them quit saying it.
Strange world.

Hey, a jmitch sighting! Where you been hiding?

I agree with Tara... we waz robbed! No attack or pics. Sheesh!

Pete - I still crack up everytime I think about those porcs in the outhouse. I've seen several porcs this year, some in the Catskills and mostly in central Pa. We've seen them in broad daylight right on the trail. They walk slow but you should see them motor up trees. Zoooom.

I almost stepped on a porcupine when we hiked the Mid State trail in Sept. I was amazed too at how fast they can climb trees when they want to.
