He died today at 82. He was one of the meanest, stingiest, ugliest pitchers I ever saw. He beat the crap out of the Phillies every time, seemed like.

After he retired, I began to revere him. I still won't ever thank him for beating the Phils. He was that good.

Too bad. I remember when I was a kid reading about my childhood sports hero, Willie Mays, and there were always great stories about matchups w/Spahn. Only 82....

Warren Spahn was also one of the best hitting pitchers ever. I remember when I was kid where they put him in a pitch hitter...and he got a hit (it was very rare, but he was good).

He was a damn good pitcher. I never saw him play, but know of him.
