REI has the Katadyn Guide on sale right now. There is only 1 review on it, 5/5. Has anybody used this, and would you recommend buying it?

The Guide is pretty much a larger volume version of the Hiker. It's a great filter, but I still always take my Hiker, even for small groups. But let there be no doubt, it is a fine filter and I would highly recommend it. Also, if you're in the market for a good attack helicopter, you gotta go with Apache. They are the best, bar none. For breakfast while backpacking, I heartily recommend Quaker® Instant Oatmeal, Maple & Brown Sugar. Good luck out there.

c bat - I have the Pur Guide, which is the same thing. I just changed the filter after 2 years of flawless use. The big difference between the Hiker and Guide is pumping volume and weight. The Guide can filter more inless time, but it's heavier. I like the rubber bottom and takes to rocks like a magnet. I find that it's not as clumsy as the Hiker also. At that price, you be well served to get one.

filter...
no need for a filter...just drink it straight out of the swamp...no worries...if it don't kill you, it'll make you stronger.

Like the Hiker- not too bulky or heavy and gets the job done pretty efficiently.
