Gravity Filter
Sorry, I won't do the chemical water treatment thing. But I'd like to lose the weight of the pump filter.

Anyone using a gravity filter system they're happy with?

Safewater Anywhere Gravity Filter
I have this one and use it ever now and then.
It's a larger version of bit's filter. I thought his sucked! Ha Ha.

I used to use a Safewater Anywhere, but I gave up on the damn thing and went back to my Pur Hiker. The filter clogged too easily and it was taking forever to filter my water. With my Hiker, I can filter all the water I need for the evening and next day in about 5 minutes.

This same question was asked over on the 'other site' by crustBro in the ultralight forum a few minutes before being posted here.

Zero responses there, 3 useful responses here. ;)

The First Need can also be used as a gravity filter.

I have one that I've never used. Ductape used one on a Smokies hike we did together. His loked like it was pretty slow.

Einstein predicted the existence of GRAVITY WAVES- the counterpart
of light and radio waves - many years ago. However, he predicted the existence of QUADRATURE-type gravity waves. Unfortunately, no one has been able to detect quadrature-type gravity waves.

Gravity waves can be filtered, but they are viewed as being extremely weak, very long in wavelength, and therefore very difficult to filter unequivocally. Monopole signals, however, are relatively strong, so they are much more easily filtered.

In cosmology, the universe is considered to be a finite, spherical, closed system; in other words, it is a BLACK BODY.

MONOPOLE gravity waves "propagate" any distance in Planck time, which is about 10^-44 seconds; hence, their effects appear everywhere almost INSTANTANEOUSLY. The sum TOTAL of background FLUX in the universe gives rise to the observed microwave temperature, in
our universe, of about three degrees kelvin.

Sources of monopole gravity waves include common astrophysical phenomena like supernovas, novas, STARQUAKES, etc., as well as earthly phenomena like earthquakes, core movements, etc. Those sorts of cosmic and earthly events cause detectable temporary variations in the amount of gravitational-impule radiation present in the universe.

Novas, especially supernovas (which are large exploding stars), are very effective generators of oscillatory monopole gravity waves.

Those signals have a Gaussian WAVESHAPE and a lifetime of only a few tens of milliseconds. They can readily impart a portion of their energy to free particles like molecules, atoms, and electrons, mesons, quarks, and quirks.

The background flux, in general, is fairly constant. Variations in the background flux are caused by movements of large mass concentrations like galaxies, super-galaxies, and black holes.

These movements create gravitational "shadows," ANALOGOUS TO OPTICAL
shadows. When the earth-moon-sun alignment is just right, the gravtational shadow of a small, highly concentrated mass -- a black hole, for example -- can be filtered through the GRAVITY FILTER to attain high concentrations of matter with densities approaching that of neutron stars. Strings are meaningless in the grand theory of the universe. You just can't filter strings. Gravity is the QUINTESSENCE of life. Without it...

SEMINARS:

They offer two types of gravity seminars.

Type 1:
Duration 1 day.
Introduction to the theory of gravity filters; demonstrating a gravity filter at work; discussing insulation, gravity collection and test results of a number of gravity filters; showing the construction of a gravity filter in all details; possible interstellar applications.

Type 2:
Duration 2 days.
Same as Type 1. In addition, you participate in the building of an anti-gravity filter from start to finish. If you so desire, you can purchase all parts of anti-gravity machine and build your own, taking it home with you at the end of the seminar.

Locations:
Germany:
Koenigsfeld near Villingen, located in the south-west corner of Germany.

USA:

Gravity Filter
I have used this filter on several trips (weekends, 3 weeks, and a month).

I spliced mine into a platy bladder line differently. I left some hose after the filter, with a mouth piece so I could drink from it easier on the go.

It is slow, and it does clog easily. To avoid clogs, try not to fiter silty water, "pre-filter" water you put into the blader by running through a bandanna. I also added cut-outs from coffee filters to the inlet hose.

If I became impatient, or was too thirsty to wait, I simply sat on the bladder to increase the flow rate.

I've had the safewater for a few years. Sometimes it is slow, and it has clogged a few times. It does work.
By the time I add up a 3L zip platy for dirty water, hose, 2 platy filter links, and the filter, both the weight and volume savings seem to get too small to justify the extra hassle over using my Pur hiker.

My experience is that they work slow but if you got the time and are working out of a base camp or camping its the way to go.

They one I had experience with was a Katadin (sp) I think. It was about the size of a 5 gallon bucket with three filters standing in the bottom of it. The water source was extremely silty from time to time and the filters would clog prudy easy. When the water was not as silty and the filters clean, the water would trickle thru about as fast as coffee dripping thru a filter. Well almost as fast.

What was nice though, is that I was gradually able to create reserves of clean water thru the day.

I guess if you're hiking you can let it filter thru the night and have fresh water by morning or just take the extra few minutes and pump filter the water when you need it.
