Dunnys are good but expensive. I like Montecristos myself, but they are pricey too. Don't really have a favorite...I smoke a lot of variety.

My everyday cigars are Macanudo Clayborne Cafe and Macanudo Maduro Ascots. My after dinner cigar is the Macanudo Portofino. I have also tried a few C.A.O. Cameroon cigars lately, and enjoyed them emmensely.

I smoke Swisher Sweets®. Sure, they burn like a sparkler and blow up in your face, but it's a magical 4 second experience. And if they end up getting crushed in your pack, you're out what, like 72 cents? Ah lawk 'em alawt.

Arturo Fuente Short Stories. But lately the occassional pipe smoke has been calling. Particularly English and Balkan blends, those with a lot of Latakia.

I'm concerned that after Bush invades Cuba, their cigars won't be as highly esteemed. As of now, it's the only illegal thing I'll smoke.

A Cuban Romeo y Julieta is probably the best cigar I've ever had, but I've had other Cuban cigars that were just mediocre. Clearly part of their hype is due to their illegality.

The quality of Cuban cigars has fallen in recent years as they raise production to infuse more hard capital into the failing Cuban economy. However, if you can make sure that you are purchasing Cuban cigars that have been manufactured in Havana in one of the older factories, usually those are the best.

And if one of you comes back from the Yucatan crowing about the great deal you got on Cuban cigars from some guy selling them on the beach, I'm going to laugh out loud at you.

Well I have seen a very good increase in good cigars from the D Rep.

I have found that there cigars are at the same or even better then there Cubin counterpart.

Cigars are ok, but the cooler weather seems to always spark my interest in Latakia rich blends of pipe tobac. Nothing like a slow smoldering bowl of Frog Morton on the Town around the camp fire.

I'm right there with ya trailhound. If you like Latakia, you owe it to yourself to try G.L. Pease's Raven's Wing as well as Hermit Tobacco's Ten Russians. Both are fantastic Latakia bombs.

Absolutely! Cheap pipes use cheap briar that has been poorly cured and that'll affect the quality of the smoke. Steer clear of drugstore pipes like Dr. Grabows. There are some good quality pipes in the $40-$60 range. I highly recommend Stanwells. They are, IMHO, the best machine made pipe on the market. The really expensive pipes are handmade and you're paying for its rarity and aesthetic qualities more than smoking ability. A well crafted machine made pipe made with good, well-cured briar will smoke just as well.

StormBringer the quality of tobacco really matters. Although most beginners start with a drugstore brand (Captain Black, Half and Half etc.), I would recommend buying a top quality tobac. Very few of even the top quality tins are over 6 bucks and there is 1000s of different blends; each one with its own unique taste. As for the pipe, the answer is yes and no. For example a $200 Dunhill pipe will smoke better than a $10 drugstore pipe but not 20xs better. Best bet for a beginner is to buy a corn cob pip. Their cheap as dirt and most smoke very nice. Most of the high end pipes are considered works of art. This link is great.
