I certainly hope none of them involved the chili.

no chili or full moon - those would be nightmares, LOL...

Last night I had a variation of the forgetting or missing gear dream. The other night it was faulty headlamp winter hiking in the dark. At least I dream about backpacking!

LOL i alwas have the forgotten gear dreams but usually right before a trip. On of them I got to the trail head and forgot my backpack. Had all the other gear just not the pack. the strange part is I was already at the first campsite when I realized that I had forgoten the pack.

Maybe this comes from that one trip when I actually forgot my boots.

There I was...naked in the hallway between classes. I just remembered this was the last day to drop a class without getting an F, but I couldn't remember which class it was. I couldn't even remember the room or the time. Oh, and I'm not sure where my locker was, either.

whoops ski, I musta dropped my hat...
;)

you would, Tommy T! In last night's dream I had all my gear, but left it behind and the driver wouldn't turn around! so everyone went hiking without me - bastards!

I do have trips planned for the next three weekends. I think that fiddlin' with my gear list causes my dreams to have hiking stuff in them, but the dreams themselves are driven by other things.

from spaceweather.com...

"AURORA WATCH: A coronal mass ejection (CME) hurled into space by a solar explosion on April 6th is heading in the general direction of Earth. Sky watchers should be alert for auroras when it arrives, probably during the
early hours of April 8th UT (for North Americans, that means during the night of April 7th).

Earth is already skirting through a solar wind stream flowing from a
coronal hole on the sun. Because of this, geomagnetic storms and auroras are likely, off and on, for the next few days. The best displays will be at high latitudes--e.g., Canada and Alaska. When the incoming CME arrives, auroras could descend to lower latitudes, too."

look up tonight - just in case!

I just woke up, and had a dream about bears. I think it was due in large part to the email you sent me, Skiracer. I was at some random house in the woods and one was going at the birdfeeders.

Although I suppose you mean the Beehive and the Precipice trails Pennsy...while you're over there, I'll be on Manset and Bernard mtns...

Manset and Bernard are on the awesome side too. Heck, I forget what is considered the quiet side. I was thinking quiet, like down by Bass Harbor. I had a great hike on Manset and Bernard, and then there is Acadia Mt, and the trail I can't think of that borders Somes Sound.

The 2 trails I was thinking may be closed are Precipice and Jordan Cliffs.
Pennsy

4/07/04

I agree that Manset and Bernard are on the awesome side, with the awesome side being the quiet side. :)
However, I should have said Mansell the mtn instead of Manset the town.

Quiet side is the right side as you go onto the island - the longer part of the claw, which does indeed go to Bass Harbor, where there is one hiking trail.

I enjoyed the Acadia/Flying mtn trail as well. Did you know there is a fresh water spring in Valley Cove, under the high tide mark?
twigeater
8:52:46 PM
4/07/04

even though it has the reputation of being the "quiet side," there were about 30 cars or more parked at the Acadia mtn trailhead when I did it, though I saw few people on the trail.
twigeater
8:58:27 PM
4/07/04

Well, I knew it was Mase... something. Close enough I reckon.

When I did the Acadia Mt, Flying Mt, and the other one with a French name loop, my car was the only one at the trailhead and I didn't see a soul.

I did not know there was a spring in Valley Cove. Is that down by Somes Sound on the above mentioned loop?
Pennsy
9:19:11 PM
4/07/04

The loop I did was Acadia mtn, Valley Peak trail, and St Sauvier mtn...I meant to do Flying mtn, but turned onto the Valley Peak trail instead.

Valley cove is in Somes Sound, the trail goes right by it. Somes sound is the largest or only fjord in the east (or something like that) It used to be cool to sail there, cause you could sail right up to the sides, right up to the cars driving down the road on one section. Was one of our favorite places.

There's also water called Man 'o War brook (or falls or something) in the sound that has some historical significance, but I think you can only see it by boat.
twigeater
9:29:13 PM
4/07/04

Man 'o war brook... I think I got a tour from a local old timer there once. Basically, the man 'o war ships would sail right up to the cliff and load on water without having to get off the ship. I actually watched the boat owner "park" his boat right against the cliff. In the old days, the only way to get fresh water was for every one to load into dinghies with wooden casks and go find a stream , load em up and head back to the ship.

Twigeater, I got some pics of it, but they didn't come out very good. I was too far away for the flash to illuminate very well. I may try to lighten it up a bit to see what I can get.

Artex, maybe someday soon, you'll get to see one of your own in real life.

Actually, I've already seen one in the wild, but I didn't have a camera with me. It was near High Point State Park in New Jersey, we were driving home from a white water rafting trip, and one ran across the road in front of us. I pulled the car over and ran into the woods to try and get a better look, but he quickly disapeared. It was cool.

To All That Are Flying In
twiggy has said she could pick us up in Portland if we fly in there.
We need to all come in and leave about the same times so as to make it easy on her.
I'm looking at a Friday afternoon flight in.
Flight out may be on Monday week. Get someone to drop me off at a Portland motel Sunday. Use motel or taxi to get to the airport Monday morning.

yam, what are your plans?
Ewker has bailed on us.

Yam, you had to have your money to Twiggy by a certain time. If not you were bumped and she went to the waiting list. It doesn't matter, I couldn't wait till the last minute to buy a plane ticket that would cost 2-3 times as much if I had bought it earlier.

I hope you guys have fun.

After hearing back from the 12 "yes" people on the trip page, there are only a few who are continuing on for the whole week.
So the only part of the trip that's full is my reservation for the BSP section.

Anyone who wants to do just the rest of the week, OR try to get their own reservation for BSP or someplace outside the park (Hidden Springs campground, Sunday Pond Cabin, or some other place) for the first three days is welcome to do that.

I'll help in any way I can! :)
