Are you sure that you and that special someone in Huntsville wouldn't like to come and share the 19* temps we'll have at Sipsey? Doesn't that sound fun?

3/4 mile on which trail? If it's 209 then you have to cross Borden. We're just looking for a place to put a tent up and meet before driving somewhere else.

What part of Sipsey are you checking out? I was there last Sat to try and see the Indian paintings at Kinlock Rock Shelter. There were 3 hunters trucks parked there so I didn't bother. Kinlock falls was great.

Last weekend was a hunting weekend. No hunting is allowed this weekend.

I'm not using that tent site OPIE. I need one close to the trailhead. Granted, it doesn't take me 3 hrs to get to a campsite a mile and a half in, but it's still too far. haha

How ya feelin'? Both my kids now have sinus infections and blew chunks from drainage. I'm feeling pretty good now, but have an awful cough.

still have a 101 temp...full body aches, horrible cough, just plain snotty....i'm trying to convince my brother to shoot me...there is a good campsite on the white oak hollow trail about .1 from the thompson creek turn off...i've seen 3 large tents there...the creek is a lil high right now..and kinda noisy..but the site doesn't flood.

That's the one I was planning on using. It's on the left side of the creek if you're heading upstream, correct?

yea...it's on the left...small bend in the creek..large boulder..well defined firering...you may have to go to the far left or right of the valley to find much in the way of fire wood.

The weather now looks good and dry for this weekend. I'm meeting dayhiker and others at the Sipsey picnic area at 9am Saturday morning. Dayhiker says we'll hike a few miles and dump our gear before continuing the hike. Should be a good time if anyone else wants to show up and hike with us.

We're Back
Dayhiker, CocoaWilliams, Mark, and myself had a good time exploring parts of the Sipsey Wilderness. We found a secluded campsite along a creek and plenty of dead cedar trees for an awesome campfire. (I remembered to bring a saw this time.)

Saturday we explored along creeks and canyons. We found a creek that disappeared into a hole in the ground, only to figure out that it emerged as a spring on the other side of a nearby hill. We also explored a canyon that had a small waterfall at the bluffline.

CocoaWilliams and Mark went home before dark. Dayhiker and I stayed overnight and had a good time talking over a good warm fire. It was so cold that dayhiker woke up to find frost on the top of his hat. After some hot oatmeal and hot chocolate we headed back to the trailhead.

I now have a bigger appreciation for the diversity of the Sipsey Wilderness. Hopefully I'll get back there soon.

We took FSR 280 to the trailhead. Umm...we were in the NorthEast part of the Sipsey...umm...that's all I remember...I just follow dayhiker...it's easier that way.

Finally back after all day meetings. We camped at the intersection of Hagood and Braziel Creeks. These join to form Borden Creek. I'll bring my pics with me in the morning and see what I got. Hopefully, I'll have some nice ones to post on webshots.

The route into camp for the March trip is awesome. I'm going to dayhike it again over New Years weekend. I'll post when that happens. Two waterfalls as good as any on the trail network.

I don't have a map with me, but I think it was off 207 and 210. We weren't using the trail network for the trip. We parked where FR208 and FR229 come together and followed a trail about 1/4 mile or so and then were off trail from then on. We did bump into some of the horse trails a time or two, but not sure which ones they were.
