Thread degeneration anyone?
dhutch is in no way a dog, but.....

I can't help but to think of that Masterpiece of Western Literature Go, Dog. Go! by P.D. Eastman, because of this thread title.

I loved that book when I was a child, but evidently not all do as shown by the reviews below:

From the bottom of the Amazon webpage:
"I cringe when my toddler comes at me waving this one!
A Dr. Seuss knock-off!
Go Dog Go ain't cuttin' it for me!
First, it is toooooo looooooooooong. Also, there is no predictable rhythm. It is just not fun to read. It comes across as something you would use to teach English as a second language, with all the "red dog on a blue house, dog under the water, dog under the water" jazz. And I can't stand the running dialogue between the dog who wears a hat and the dog who doesn't like it!"

Kinda harsh, don't you think? Any book reviewer that uses the term "ain't cuttin'" is not qualified to make such a literary critique and they are a big old doo doo head.

back to the thread......
Run! Run like the wind, dhutch!

Thanks all!

I'm going home in just a bit to re-check the packing of my gear. One of the funnest things about adventure racing is that you need LOTS OF GEAR! AAAnd you get to play with it!

I've got transition bags for BIKE, PADDLE and mandatory. Plus every stitch of outdoor clothing I own is going with me.

lol yam, if you don't see me post next week......

Well....
The biking ended up to be the least of my problems, thanks to the mountain bikers on this board for the tips. Let's just say lessons learned all 'round.

Did not complete the race due to "personality conflicts" with my teammate. He wants to navigate, "Which way is North on this map?" I hould have established his ability prior to the race and formed an agreement as to who would do the job. But...He's safely home and I'm not in jail so all is well. learnings:

1. Never race with an ex-boyfriend. There's a reason you broke up with them in the first place!
2. Racing with someone on a 4 person team buffers the effects of 1 on 1 diferences.
3. 2 Nice people individually can be nasty when put together.
4. "Thinking" you know where you are is not allowed
5. Doug can't navigate (I said I wasn't going to do this but the venting feels good and you don't know Doug)

Had a better time picking up my dry cleaning when I got home 3 hours early. Looking forward to racing next year!

LOL.. dhutch, I think you're a "take control" kinda gal, right? (yeah, I can see that. Takes one to know one. LOL)

mebbee race on your own? Or decide to be a good team member with a group of four. Have you done team stuff much? I know playing volleyball helped me out a lot in that respect.

I play softball on a team, played competitve volleyball on teams and have raced on a team. Not a team issue. I'll race on a team again. After the race we parted still friends and will train together (maybe). This is just an isolated example of two individuals that are both "take charge" kind of people not establishing rank from the get go. My take...she who can read the map, wins. Or, agree before the race that it is a practice and that she will follow along.

Knowing Dhutch and doug both I can see how it happened. Both are great folks (though I like dhutch more) but I can invision the whole ordeal.Fortunately you called me Sat from home not from Jail LOL!

Dhutch, I absolutely love your attitude! Always looking for the positive and learing from every experience. That is excellent. I look forward to racing with you in may, either as a 2 person or maybe 4(stefan,jeff?).

Briar Rabbit. If you're pair includes Doug I'm a little confused, I'm trying to stay OUT of jail. If Birch, he is a happily married man!!!!

Well actually I was referring,
to the one gentleman you were speaking of the other day, 'What's his face?' and if that was Doug I have miss spoken CUZ, I thought there was another man that you were interested in but didn't know how to go about asking him out w/out sounding to horny.

I mean Dhutch, you sound and come across as a very confident, assertive woman. And the pair I was referring too are the brass ones that are internal in some of you ladies. FYI, many men find that quality extremely attractive. Make note ladies.

And according to my day planner, or should I call it my stack of post-it-notes, I have several openings.

We all need to be way proud of Dhutch! her team is still hanging in on the 2nd Michigan Coast to Coast adventure race. More than half of the teams have withdrawn or lost team mates. The course is sounding monstrously difficult. Race ends tomorrow.

Birch and I have been following her progress here: http://www.checkpointtracker.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=leaderboard.showLeaderboard&eventID=94

her team is currently in 15th place, Blind leading the Blind is the name. The race blog, dashboard, and course overview gives a great impression of what the teams are slogging through.

Sometime tonight or early tomorrow the team should be ascending into a 100 foot deep sinkhole with a bunch of waterfalls and then ascending up to a bridge. Dhutch is going to flip out!!

Anyways, there's a spot on the site where you can give her a shout out if you want.

I guess the main issue for teams has been trench foot. It's been extreemly hot and humid here for the past week. Yesterday there were gianormous storms and a cool front for the Canadians (God bless em). So, the remainder should be easier temp wise but foot issues don't go away that fast.

At one point at night it was 40° and there was a river crossing or an optional hour long trek. I can imagine after being on your feet for 48 miles how horrible that extra hour's walk/jog would seem. Not as bad as hypothermia though!
