“Yep, starting to sound like what I had. It started as what I thought was a really bad head cold.”

“As a matter of practice I have found that the zinc (xicam or coldeze) rememdies and the Zinc Echinacea Teas work great.”

“Weird. I've had that "feel like I have a cold coming on" feeling for, let's see, eight days now. The other 2 Bowlders are both sick, have been for the same time period. Can't really afford to get sick right now - leaving for the Yukon on Friday. Don't really want to be hackin' my guts out and snotting all over the place in my tent ten zillion miles from nowhere....”

“Becareful BM, that "Feels like a cold" turned out to be a nasty flu for many people down here.”

The zinc lozenges always used to work for me...although one weird time they made me puke every time I ate one, even though it wasn't on an empty stomach (which they tell you not to do), so that was the last time I used them. But maybe those, and echinacea tea would work!”

“I've been drinking hot herbal tea, drinking OJ, taking vitamin C, echinacea, zong gan ling, trying to get extra sleep, had a flu shot last fall, and, well, I'd say "etc.", but that means I left some things off the list - that's pretty much everything, right?”

“I guess I can't complain much. An old friend's dad just had surgery yesterday to have basically half his face taken off to remove cancer. The operation was successful in removing the cancer, but he will have several reconstructive surgeries in the coming weeks. My friend wrote in her email that her dad, who has a wacky sense of humor, will delight in finding weird eye patches to hide where his left eye used to be....”

“I had the CRAP starting Last Wednesday...had a conference Wednesday and Thursday. Took off Friday, had to cover a shift Saturday. Now I was even sicker Sunday but I managed to spend it installing a metal roof in 80 temps and hot sun all day......I am almost over it though.”

“Well Bowlder, if you do get sick, you could always do like on the NyQuil commercial...just take DayQuil every day, and NyQuil every night! LMAO!! It's that easy. It's the nighttime, sniffling, sneezing, wake up 3 days later naked someplace you don't recognize medicine. HAHA! I kill me.”

food poison starts between 6-8 hours after you ate the bad thing.”

“It was less than an hour after the Mt. Dew, but that was all I'd had this morning. Nothing else. My head is still swimming, and it feels like I'm still having a full body allergic reaction, although it is now less severe. I'm nibbling a saltine now, and no gastric provocation yet. This sucks because I was really hoping to g outfor Japanese tonight. Age Daishi tofu still sounds wonderful.”

“If yesterday wasn't bad enough...

This afternoon I had a molar shatter. A nice, exposed nub that I can't get taken care of until tuesday. What is actually a concern is it doesn't rerally hurt, I just know that it feels different. Not a good weekend.”

“My son and I took our annual backpacking trip to South Pine in NE Iowa to fish some Brook Trout. He is 12 and a little shorter than I am. There are a lot of stinging nettles around that stream and he got into some of them being closer to the ground. I never thought much about it. The next morning we packed out and headed over to Yellow River Forest since I have never been there. He started to get blisters on his hand from where the stinging nettles got him. They started to get bigger. That night about 2AM he started throwing up about every 10 minutes. He got his down bag the inside of the tent and the outside of the tent. He was so week he could hardley get out of the tent. I did not feel safe hiking out in the dark so we stayed. At 7 AM he was still sick. A friend of mine was with me so we carried his pack out and got to the car. His blisters were about the size of a quarter and about 1/2' high. We drove home as he was feeling better. I took him to the emergency room and they said he had strep infection from the nettles carrying strep into his system when he got stung. He is now on antibiotics and should be fine in a few days. I have been stung by tose nasty weeds many times and never had anything like that happen. It was a bummer on a real nice weekend. One I don't think he will forget soon.”

“Strep from nettles? I've never heard of that either. Poor kid, I hope he's feeling better.”

“The strep wasn't from the nettles they were just the carrier to get it in his body. The Doc said we all carry strep and staff on our skin and the nettles have a hollow shaft and are good carriers to get things in the body. Another reason to keep extra clean when in the outdoors.”
