“Our poor Birchdog had a huge seizure for about 7 minutes last night around 12:00. Poor baby is so tired she didn't move off my legs all night and now is on her bed and not moving. She hasn't had one in ages. Makes my heart hurt for her. She's almost 9 now. When she was a pup she had them weekly for a few months and the vet couldn't figure out anything that would help excepting a specialist that cost $3500 to walk in the door. The seizures stopped for about four years and now she has about two on average a year, but they are BIG. The poor baby gets so scared you can literally smell the pheromones.”

“sass, our black lab mix has them too...she has been diagnosed with epilepsy...she's been on Phenobarbital for about 8 years now and i don't think she's had one seizure since”

“sorry to hear that sass..my toy fox had some about three years ago that lasted for about a week (a few in all) the vet couldn't tell anything and I thought it was the lantana bush that he and the other one were leaf eating on..........hasn't had one again though.........Ralph is about 13 now.”

“You know Chappy this dog is constantly eating my house plants, just a few leaves at a time. I don't think I have anything that is poisonous but I wonder...? Maybe something to look into.”

“Money tree, ficus, jade tree (that's her favorite), a bunch of suculents I couldn't even begin to tell you the names of becasue I have no clue and some ivy, grapeleaf and enlish.”

“They may not be poisonous, but that doesn't mean they're digestible. Ficus trees do contain an irritating sap, too.”

“I had a great campout with the troop, we were in the Anza Borrego Desert. a little orienteering, a little geocaching and my personal favorite, a whole lotta free climbing!!! You should have seen those dads, getting all freaked out over the climbing. If they had taken the time to get up from their chairs, they would have seen the boys never chose a climb beyond their abilities, they DID have a healthy fear that stopped them from making idiot moves. Here I am taking new meds for my hip and knee pain, wearing one knee brace and still climbing with the boys. Where the heck is their gumption? Get up & climb!

But, I woke up this morning with a sore throat. After I got home I took two ibuprofen for the pain and climbed under the covers, I woke up 3 hours later and could literally feel my temp climbing. My husband chose just that time to walk in so I asked him for the thermometer, it was 100.5. I waited for about 10 minutes while I felt it climb, it was 101. And this is with meds. I guess whatever all the kids have at work finally bit me. But you know it's been a year since I've had an upper-respiretory, so I guess I won't complain, too much. 100.6 now. The headache just set in, so I guess I will go back to bed again. So much for flu shots.”

“I'm sorry to hear that. I just got over a bout of flu that I'm sure I acquired at work, and while I am much better now, I am still getting over some cold symptoms. I hope you feel better real soon!”

“Thank you Leofric. I'm was actually up to 101.6 when I typed that, typo. I've got it back down to 100.4 now. I've been sleeping the whole day. So now I'm very awake. I have a day off tomorrow which is a good thing, I'm supposed to go in for x-rays to see if I have athritis in my hips & knees. I can't decide whether to do that or not, I don't want to expose anyone needlessly. My doctor gave me Diclofenac for the pain, and Protonix samples to protect my stomach from it. It seems to be working for the most part. Anyone else hear of this medication? The Diclofenec I mean.”

“Thank you Sass. I'm feeling better this morning. What I did yesterday was to shoot two shots of rum with pineapple juice and climb under a ton of covers with a hot pad to sweat it out. I would sleep for four or five hours, eat a little yogurt, and then repeat. Gotta wash my sheets and blankets today, but the fever is gone and my throat doesn't hurt so much. It's my Dad's remedy.”

“Gracie had a 104 fever last night. YIKES was she on fire! She was doing much better this morning.

Guess it will be my turn in a couple of days.”

“I got the bad stomach flu going around here, on Thursday. Went to work fine (but thinking something wasn't right) and 45 minutes later I was headed back home knowing I might not make it home. I was a very sick puppy Thursday and Friday (frown). That dang thing drains your energy instantly - I slept 6 hours on Thurs, just as soon as I got home even though I had a full night's sleep just a few hours before. High fever, too.

Feeling a lot better today, but not 100%. I hope none of you get this thing, I haven't been this sick in 4 years.”

“Wow, stomach flu sucks! I haven't had that in a long long time, but I do remember crawling on the floor through the crackers that baby Brian had strewn about trying to feed himself while we all were sick. I hope you feel better FAST FAST techntrek!”

“I read in the newspaper a few weeks ago a strain of stomach flu was spreading along the east coast. I can't remember the exact name that they called it, but they did say it's very contagious.”

there was a bad strain here this winter, sent me to the er. UGH. Painfull as well as making me sick.

“Ab always hit 104°, with every tooth. The Ped insisted that teething didn't cause fevers. He was crazy. The molars were the worst. It's scarey when your baby gets that hot. I hope Gracie is better WK.”

“Thanks everyone, this thing sends you one direction one day and then another the next. My wife ended up at the doctor's on Sunday and he told her it has lasted up to 10 days. That might be the case for me. After the two horrible days I felt fine on Sat and spent the day chainsawing wood. Then a mild fever on Sunday and yesterday, today no fever but I'm not entirely right "down below". Ugh, at least I'm well enough to not burn sick leave.

Norovirus must be what I have. Its spreading through the schools here like wildfire, and my wife is a teacher...”

“Thanks, sass. She's doing a lot better than Friday Morning. She started out unable to use her back legs and couldn't seem to find her way around at all, stopped eating, no pupil dialation. She's either completely blind out of the left eye and/or there's a "disconnect". It appears she needs to make a right circle before doing anything active. For example, she'll be in front of her food bowl and I'll put food down. She then makes a clockwise circle and starts eating.

She's slowly improving but we're not sure how far it will go. We have to take her in this week for a thyroid check and Dani is afraid they'll want to observe her overnight. She has a very justifiable distrust of leaving a loved one under someone elses care and I think is hoping Annie will just "go to sleep" where she's comfortable.”

“Okay kicking a fever

You can normally take Ibuprofen, Acetominofin etc every 4 hours. If you rotate the meds you can get away with ever two hours. Rotate the Ibu then Acete and if age appropriate asprin. Will break a normal fever in no time.”

hey they not only took the alchohol out of Nyquil, they took out the psuedoephedrine. the stuff is crap now; very expensive crap.

“My wife went from puking to bronchitis within 5 days. She ended up at the doctor's office on Sunday to get a prescription. That doc said this thing can go up to 10 days, and it does seem to end up with a lung infection.

The secretary at my kid's school says its happened to many of the kids there, too. I don't know about the kids at my wife's school. I'm borderline, its been over a week and I have bad congestion but not bad enough to see if I should get meds. Yet.


Yeah, Nyquil is crap now. I need to check to see if the off-brand I use has lost both ingredients, too.”
