Cutting The Christmas Tree
Yesterday the girls and I went out and cut our tree for Christmas. We went back to a place I found last year when I was out exploring the northern part of our county, just south of the Pennsylvania line.

Over the weekend we got two snow storms so there was about a foot of snow on the ground and cold so the setting was about as good as it could be. This guys farm is way up a hollow of sorts and we were able to drive the truck out into his fields and woods. From there we hiked through the snow about 300 yds to the perfect tree, a Douglas fir. We dragged it back to the truck and went back down to his farm house ( built in 1869), where he invited us in for hot cocoa. He has 4 jack russels so the girls were thrilled. For $25 we had a great time.

Happy Holidays.

What fun! I've never cut a Xmas tree. Someday I'll have a real one. As it is, I have two artificail ons that take alot of abuse. The dogs knocked down the big one in the front room on Saturday night, breaking at least twenty ornaments, and my heart. They needed a candy cane or six.

We put the snowshoes in the car on Sunday, eager to use them while searching for our tree at a local cut-your-own place near us. Sadly, there was a sign at the entrance that said they were out of trees for this year unless you had marked it earlier in the year. I guess we'll visit them next fall and mark one to cut in Dec. We ended up getting one from a nursery. We'll keep it on the screened-in porch this year because we just rescued a kitten that had been dropped off near our home on Thanksgiving. She's a little too curious and I know she'd end up climbing up this tree. We'll enjoy the tree through the sliding glass door and the window to the screen porch.

Sounds perfect JO!

My parents have a farm, and we all used to get together and go out and cut our trees. Then my sisters wanted perfect trees - one went artificial, and the other goes to a nursery. They are No Fun.
:(

A couple of times we had Christmas tree cutting parties. We'd jump on the hay wagon and head out into the woods and everyone picked a tree. Then back to the house for pot luck, hot chocolate and other beverages, then sledding. Too much fun!

twigeater...y'all have those balsam firs up there. That's the best in my book.
