Maybe you like Christmas music, maybe your significant other or your mom (Violin) makes you listen to it. Whatever. I have a suggestion:

Gary Hoey
Ho! Ho! Hoey
Volumes 1, 2 and 3

Keep listening to Kenny G and Elvis if you want. But this is some great Christmas music, I highly reccommend it.

(Katherine Davis/Henry Onorati/Harry Simeone)

Come they told me
Pa rum pum pum pum
Our new born King to see,
Pa rum pum pum pum
Our finest gifts we bring
Pa rum pum pum pum
To lay before the King
Pa rum pum pum pum
Rum pum pum pum
Rum pum pum pum
So to honor Him
Pa rum pum pum pum,
When we come.

Little Baby
Pa rum pum pum pum
I am a poor boy too,
Pa rum pum pum pum
I have no gift to bring
Pa rum pum pum pum
That's fit to give our King
Pa rum pum pum pum
Rum pum pum pum
Rum pum pum pum
Shall I play for you
Pa rum pum pum
On my drum.

Mary nodded
Pa rum pum pum pum
The ox and lamb kept time
Pa rum pum pum pum
I played my drum for Him
Pa rum pum pum
I played my best for Him
Pa rum pum pum pum
Rum pum pum pum
Rum pum pum pum
Then He smiled at me
Pa rum pum pum pum
Me and my drum.
Me and my drum.
Me and my drum.
Oh me and my drum.
Joy to the world
Me and my drum.
Me and my drum.
Me and my drum.
Me and my drum.

this is my all time fav. it brings out the true spirit of what the day truly means.

Gary Hoey is a very talented rock guitarist. If you saw Endless Summer 2 that was his music throughout the film. He did the guitar-jammed version of Lowrider you may have heard on the radio.

The dude is very talented, he plays each of the instruments on his CDs and mixes them together. The Christmas tunes he does are rockin' fun when appropriate and tastefully done through and through.

You might have a hard time finding it in stores, it's hit and miss. But you can find it on Amazon no problem.

I'd like to hear that version of Lowrider, C bat! I will try and download some of his stuff later when I get home. Thanks for the recommendation...

The fun songs are usually rocked out, the spiritually meaningful songs are very well done and appropriate.

It's not that I hate Christmas music, it's just that it's inescapable this time of year. I feel like a musical refugee because I'm not really into hearing "White Christmas" for the 2.39854956x1023th time.

I can't even get away from it at home. My wife loves Christmas music and plays it every chance she gets. At least if I go down to my study, it's sorta muffled. I can sorta fool myself into thinking that "The Little Drummer Boy" is just a short excerpt from Ravel's "Bolero"...

That's part of my point, Bit. If you're gonna have to hear it this is the stuff you should be poppin' in the player. Its fun and refreshing in a season of the same old music. No way Im playing xmas music on the radio or in the truck unless my wife makes me. But I will actually jam this stuff. I blast it because it kicks a$$. And people hear it and go "where can I get that?"

Thanks, c bat. I will check it out.

Bit, I like Jimi's version of the Little Drummer. And Bob Seger's (but Seger's doesn't have all that cool feedback on it)!!

Gary rawks! If ya like guitar xmass stuff check out "Merry Axemass: A Guitar Christmas which was put together by Steve Vai. It has:

Kenny Wayne Shepherd, Eric Johnson, Jeff Beck, Joe Satriani, Brian Setzer, Steve Morse, Steve Vai, Joe Perry, Richie Sambora, Alex Lifeson and Hotei.

Be sure to pick up Vai's Alien Love Secrets too which is IMHO the absolute finest piece of guitar work on one CD.

"Nigal, I think you just put something on my must buy list."

Steve even does one song where he had his little daughter talk a bunch of gibberish and then built the song around her "lyrics". It's called Ya Yo Gack.

More on Christmas Music
Bitpusher should be in my neighborhood. One neighbor has a loudspeaker playing Christmas music in her front yard. At least it is only on when her lights are on and I can't hear it in the house. We are all laughing about that one.

The Christmas song I hate is "Silent Night". Of course, they have to sing it at church every Christmas eve service and ruin the whole holiday for me...lol.

Bit, you have mail.

Silent Night reminds me of an old Simon and Garfunkel album where they sing the song, but as it progresses, you hear a news broadcast (complete with real, depressing 1968 news items) getting louder and louder throughout the song. In listening to it recently, the effect is still there (for me, at least). I always thought that was a pretty unique presentation...

Classical Xmas, anyone?
You can always go with Mannheim Steamroller. A new album/CD each year.

A great new one I heard today on the radio - Empire Brass doing traditional Christmas songs. Its actually better than you would imagine for a brass quartet.

(I drive a lot on business. Talk radio and rock/pop stations have gone to hell here in Los Angeles, so I listen to some classical & jazz stuff).

Heard the worst christmas song of all time in a store yesterday.

"I'm the happiest christmas tree, ho ho ho, hee hee hee."

We just stared at each other with a luck of disgust. It even sounded like the Cleaver's were doing the singing.
