“I'm planning on getting up there sometime fairly early saturday morning. If that little dutch maid bakery place is open I can grab some donuts on the way in for everyone.”

“I guess that'd be early Saturday then? It's about an hour and a half from my place, so I was thinking of leaving at around 5 or 6AM Saturday.”

“Whatever works out. I'm going to try and get there early Saturday and snag the cabin, and I think fonsie is too.

I'm taking my tent just in case we can't get the cabin.”

“Ok, I'll take my tent with me just in case the cabin has already been taken. Looking forward to seeing you and the other folks again. I had planned on being in the Smokies this weekend but the weather looks ify there. If it snows Thurs., the road to Newfound Gap will be closed, so will have to reschedule that particular trip.”

“Not gonna make it. Gotta work. I'll try the Savage Gulf trip next month. Have a blast.”

“Production is up; order rates are down. I love a sluggishly recovering economy. Saturday overtime cancelled...count me back in.”

What time do people think they'll be there? I've got 8:00AM in mind...anybody else want to chime it?

I may leave then anyway in an attempt to get to the Cabin early.”

“By the way, don't worry about a counting me in for a bunk; probably just bring my MH Solitude and stay in one of the campsites. Spending the whole night with the fireplace last time didn't agree with my allergies.”

“So Bit, you heading up around 8am Saturday? I am about 1.5 hours or a little less from Savage...so will try to get up there that early; but don't worry about waiting around...if I get up there later than that, I will just see you along the way or there.”

“I'm gonna try and be at Savage Station by 8:00AM. I'm also about an hour and a half or so from there, but I'm gonna try and leave at 6:00AM from Huntsville, so I might get there a little earlier. I'll talk to the rangers and if there's some kind of problem I'll stick around and wait for people.”

“Sounds good Bit. See all of ya there. I am around the Winchester/Tullahoma area if anyone needs a ride from this way.”

“Im gonna leave atlanta by about 430 or 5, so I should be up there and able to start by 8 with no problem. Does anyone have a good set of directions to the place? The only place I have parked at savage gulf is the stone door.”

“From I-24, take exit 134.
Take US41 east through Monteagle.
Continue on US41 to Tracy City. Turn left onto TN56. There is a light and a sign for Savage Gulf at that intersection.
Take TN56 to TN108 and turn right onto TN108. There is a sign there as well, indicating a right turn to Savage Station.
Take TN108 through Gruetli-Laager to TN399. Bear left onto TN399.
Just after you cross into Sequatchie County on TN399, you will see a sign for Savage Station. Turn left and drive into the Savage Station parking lot.”

“Looks like I won't be coming on this trip afterall. I got a call this afternoon from a friend who invited me to go to Sewanee to backpack the Perimeter Trail tomorrow and Friday. This works out so that I won't miss the Sierra Club holiday party Sat. night. Hope you all have fun.”

“I was gonna try and get a quick headcount of who all we think is going, so that whoever gets there first can have something to fill out on the permit.”

“Pretty sure BBill Knox is too, but I don't think he can post until he gets home. Father Goose is not, Currahee and Kabin Kamper are not, Divinity is not. I think that Tenn War Eagle is coming, he's emailed me privately. Still don't know about debbieb and trekkngirl.

“The problem is, we can't really fill out the permit until we have an actual present headcount, because the rangers expect you to have the same headcount when they come to camp that night. So we pretty much have to wait or each do our own.”

“Thats cool- I was looking at the trip page and people were still listed as yes, even though it looked like they were out based on the thread, so I wasnt really sure.”

“Well I am coming for sure, but separate permits might be the way to go. Been to Hobbs Cabin twice and Sawmill Campsite once, and never had the rangers check up on us yet; but every other campsite that I have stayed in in South Cumberland Recreation Area (Fiery Gizzard), I have had the normal ranger stop in/chat session.”

“It would be nice if people went and took their names off the trip if they weren't coming anymore, wouldn't it?

“Rangers have checked on me every time I've been to Savage Gulf, but they missed the one time I went to Fiery Gizzard. We did hear rumors that evening that they had bigger fish to fry.”

“Thats cool...I dont mind doing seperate permits if erveryone else thinks thats the way to go...What was the deal with having bigger fish to fry?”

“A party to bust up, I think...believe it or not some people will hike back to those campsites and just get drunk or stoned and party.”

“Well, I'm all packed up. 23 pounds without water. Kept thinking I was missing something, but no, everything's in there. Now if I can just dress myself Saturday morning, everything will be fine.

“OK, like I posted earlier, I am all packed up and ready to go.

This morning, I have the sniffles and a slightly sore throat. I am fighting it, but we'll see what happens. This has been happening to me a lot lately, every time it gets really cold and the air dries out, and nothing ever comes of it.

I think I'm about 85% for this trip.”
