but also the price goes up...
It's a price/quality trade off.
600 is good down.
800 is GREAT down.
Either will get the job done.
The 600 will be a little bit heavyer but much cheaper.
The 800 lighter but much more $.

Western Mountaineering said that was PR crap a year or so ago. No real 900 down exists.
WM uses the best down one can get, but if Marmot claims 900, they have too also.

CMB
What I'm saying is Marmot is full of crap with their claims of 900 down.

This is from the WM site..

850 Plus Fill Power Goose Down
Western Mountaineering uses the highest lofting premium goose down available for all of our sleeping bags. Our fill power claim of 850 Plus is meant to be a realistic estimate given the variability of the product and the nature of fill power test methods. In reality, our certified tests most often are higher than what we claim. This is because the certified test methods provide the most optimistic fill power rating and do not represent what is being put into your sleeping bag. Recently, these testing methods for fill power changed again making the fill power ratings even higher. Now, each sample of down will receive a wash and dry before being pampered while given several days to loft up in a perfectly dry environment. Your sleeping bag will never receive that kind of treatment, and this is why we claim a more practical fill power. Rest assured, we use only the finest goose down available.

basically yes - the higher the number the lighter the bag for equal warmth

HPM's car apparently HATES cold weather. The clutch becomes extremely stiff when cold. I'd think a volkwagen gti vr6 would do better than that in NC.

Those bastards lied to us! It was supposed to go back up to 12° by 4am. It's 3° w/ a -11° windchill. The 1/4 walk across the hospital parking lot in scrubs should be delightful today. I think I'll wear my windblock fleece and change there.

brrrrrrrrrr.. Winter has officially started.

It's going to be in the 50s here by mid week. The weather in Southern PA is crazy. One day it is frigid and the next day it's balmy.

One of my cars did that today too. -14C, with the windchill it's -28C (about -18F) and we had a 20cm (10")dump of snow yesterday...so it's going to be a white christmas...yeeha.

I don't know how cold it is, but the snow squeaks when you walk on it and pee freezes before it hits the ground.
