i'd keep things basically the same, but force people to foot a portion of the rescue bill themselves, especially in cases of gross negligence. this goes for all public emergency services”

I could live with that.

Some public emergency services are already paid from part of the real estate taxes.

If someone is in danger, we have a responsibility to assist regardless of their race, nationality, age, religion, creed, breed, speed, or political affiliation.

It's called the Good Samaritan Law .

If someone runs out of gas in front of my house, I'll syphen the lawnmower if neccessary...

If there's a blizzard, I'll keep my business open all night to shelter strandees.

If theirs an overturned SUV in the ditch, I'll stop to render aid.

When I was a volunteer firefighter, we would assist anyone with almost anything.

America has the finest and bravest on the planet. We aided Iran after their earthquake last year, remember? I would venture to guess we never hinted at any kind of reimbursement. Bad karma, don'cha know?

Besides - and this is critical - actual rescue conditions offer the best training opportunies. "Teachable moments" you might say.

BTW -
"Risk factor". So the guys were taking a risk. What about the crash involving a semi and an SUV? Do we ignore them for not using mass transit and piggy-back service? Where you gonna draw the line, Willis?

When one of these rescue situations comes along the cheap pikers come out of the woodwork cryin' about payin' for it.

You got it, Gojo...........pay forward.

the death toll is much greater on the roads and in daily life than in the mountains. Accidents happen, life happens, death happens. Let's bar people from living their lives because they could die.

My sledder friend claims that his homeowners covers him on the trail. I've heard the same about if you whack a golf ball and it injures someone, or causes property damage.

Would hikers be covered as well, if this is true?

Are these climbers covered? If you won a home, between that and your car, aren't you pretty much covered by some form of insurance out in public?

Sidebar: Israel, Iran's most hated enemy whom wants to wipe them off the map, offered millions in aid money, food and supplies when that happened. Iran turned them down. Israel sent the food to friendly Euro countries, had it relabeled under their name and then had it sent.

Having lived in Hartford, CT (insurance capitol of the world) I can assure you no matter who collects it, it will end up in the hands of the greedy insurance companies.”

Rev, I know how picky insurance companies can be...but you know they have Stock Holders (you got any investments?) to answer to. I see those that get whiney about legitimate claims. Those are the ones where I end up doing the investigation and then advising the residents how to get their claim filed.
