Matt,

The trips page is a wonderful feature. I just signed up for a trip as a maybe and a thought came to me. It's so easy to sign up for trips either as a maybe or definite, things come up, and maybe you don't check back.

It might be a neat feature if next to the trip listing in the overall trips page that either a red or green exclamation point was listed next to the trips that an individual was singed up for. At a glance you could see what, when, how you were signed up for various trips. Yes, we should be marking this stuff on a calender, but it would be handy.

Thanks for all you do.

I'm not a good engineer because I'm not completely up on my HolyGrailese? What up with the last two comments?

The only significance of the colors is that it matches the scheme of the colors for "going" and "maybe" on the individual trip pages.

That's a good suggestion. I am starting to think about the next major revamp of thebackpacker.com website. So this is definately something I will put on my list.

As a side note, someone has actually calculated the average airspeed of a unladen swallow, no kidding.

MATT??
Could posts have searchable elements within them?

Could you search for posts by who started them? (then we could live in awe of bacpac forever!!! mooooohahaa)

Matt
I still think a "Ignor This Thread" feature would be nice. That way I anything Political oriented would be out of view and just the threads of value would show.

How about a TTer Directory?
There are times I'm looking for someone's E-mail address but you can't find it unless you can find where they've posted.

One other trips related possibility would be to list the number of "definitely" and "maybes" on the main trips page. Anyone could tell at a glance about how many folks are going on a given trip.

Good lord no. I was using the page and two features came to me and I thought I'd pass them on. They can be used or not as they are worth what was paid. I merely wanted to pass on a thought that others might not have thought of.

I'd like a pony too.

I agree on one case...
I was searching for some old trip reports that I wrote, but never saved on my pc, a search by creator function would be very good and extremely useful for just such a purpose. Matt, could you please "make it so".

Matt....
1. Make it easier to post pics, photos, etc....I just want to cut and paste....forget the nonsense you're doing now.....

2. Links....again I just want to type www.whatever.com and waa laa...the link is created....make it so mate....

3. Remove the "Private Trips" feature....this invites the clique behaviour...you've created a "public forum" and if knuckleheads and wingnuts want private trips then let them do it in their own space and time...not here!

my $.02

I think Matt should add a "Ignore this Board" feature so people can ban themselves when they decided they've had enough of Trail Talk.

Anything less is just reinforcing their addiction.

Add a ton of new features and get rid of adds--make the new features and add free pages available for $1 a month or $10 a year. I'd pay $10 a year to get rid of adds and have some more search features, etc. Did I mention I hate adds?
Dub

12/16/03

I'm betting that math won't add. Let's say 300 people were willing to pay. That's $3k per year. I'll bet the adds generate more. Also, the amount of newbies would shrink and that would kill the trolls. On second thought....

I can't slam the trolls too bad, they do add character to the board.

why are you so worried about the trips page. It is fine the way it is. Just remember the trips you want to go on or use your computer at work to remind you about a trip.

"3. Remove the "Private Trips" feature....this invites the clique behaviour...you've created a "public forum" and if knuckleheads and wingnuts want private trips then let them do it in their own space and time...not here!"

That's just down-right rediculous. It's a wonderful thing to be able to organize a trip and invite your close friends, people you know you get along well with and won't want to choke after 5 days on the trail with. Who in the heck wants to go hiking on an extended trip with someone they've never met? They could be like Chip for cripes sake!!!

Make some way so that the threads that are connected with a particular trip, but public, are easily distinguishable on the public thread page.
