What is your favorite part of Christmas?
For me, it is the time families spend together with no particular agenda. At this time of year, for some reason, we usually spend our time going day by day and enjoying each others company. It seems to be a family tradition.

This year, my brother and mother will be visiting and I don't yet have a clue what will do during the week they are here. One of those times when every day just seems to plan itself out.

I wish I could work that way all year.

I really wish it could be the way it was when I was first married and visiting family for the hoildays. That was before I started to hate them :(

Maple, sometimes it is best to forgive them their tresspasses and make the best of the holidays. I always enjoy the sense of good will and cheer which people extend to one another around the holidays. Try extending the olive branch or the cup of ale to your offending inlaws.

Well, Newergirl is 3 this yr. So, mainly I'm excited about how excited she is. I took her to see Santa the other day. As we were leaving, she stops and yells across the mall, "I've been waiting for you Santa." LOL! I taught her "Away In The Manager" and, believe me, there is nothing cuter than a 3 yr old singing "the little Lord Jesus lay down his sweet head." Yesterday we put up our tree and she was so pumped she was jumping in circles around me while I got all the decorations out of storage. So, I like how children react to Christmas.

Texasdon - ML was full-on kidding. Her husband is a regular here on TT.

That's sweet, Newgirl.

I enjoy just chillin' with family, but that will be limited due to me getting screwed with working next week. Oh well, it's a job at least.

texas, it is not my hubby family, its mine.

I have only 2 sisters here in the states, and no one talks to her. I do feel sad because all the rest of my family is so far away

LOL @ Artex. Your anger over having to work is disguised real well. Don't feel bad. I have to work on both X-mas eve and New Year's eve. I'm the only one w/ a child . . . and the only one working on X-mas eve, too. Does that lick big, hairy ones or what?

Misery loves company! I'll toast a non-alcholic eggnog to you while I'm cranking out scripts on Christmas, newgirl. I'm also working New Year's Eve and New Years. I'm not terribly dissapointed about that though. The only thing I usually look forward to on New Years is getting to smooch some drunk girl who wouldn't have anything to do with me otherwise.

I am very thankful b/c I have a wonderful hubby and the bestest children in the world. We will get to spend lots of time with both our families for x-mas and the New Year. I cant wait!!

Actually, Artex is right. But, in addition, we don't actually celebrate Xmas in our house. Maple's sisters did and we used to visit them until Armagaeddon hit over there. The kids celebrate Hannukah at home and then we would be invited to join her family for Xmas. That's how it worked...

Artex, Iused to be the jock who was stuck at the radio station at 98 Rock down there on Xmas and New Years. It was a bit lonely. So, I would get a bit drunk. Boy, you should have heard me later in the shift! It was kind of comical...

Artex, I'll be alone in the office on X-mas eve, so I'll toast an alcoholic one to you. I figure I can get 3 drinks back, before there is a noticeable drop in my data entry speed and accuracy. Kidding.

New Year's sucks for me. The new guy will be in our hometown celebrating and I won't get to celebrate w/ him.

Yeah.. sometimes jobs can be slack during the holiday. I'm kinda dreading mine though, because I'm going to have produce an hour long show and there'll probably be no news or stories to fill it with. Perhaps I can just make some stuff up, I don't think the bosses will mind.

Geez, Artex, why work so hard when the nets don't? Just walk around Tampa with a videocamera and tape people doing stupid stuff, kinda like "Insomniac with Dave Attel". Surely you can get an hour's worth (after commercials of course) out of that.

The grandkids are a blast at Christmas. I've invited them over for all of next weekend, and we're making ornaments and gifts at my house, then gingerbread houses with my mom.

I took my grandgirl to see the Nutcracker this past Sunday, it was cool to see how excited she was.

In general, I like this time of year. It's really nice in New York City, seeing the way the town is decorated in festive lights and such. Macy's always has a great display to see. There's Radio City, Rockerfeller Center, lots to look at and enjoy...

Yeah twig, we let the kids make gingerbread houses on Thanksgiving. You should've seen the kitchen!!!

Christmas will be the traditional go to mass at a small church in a small town about 30 miles from Cody (Meeteetse). There will probably only be about 15 people there which makes it pretty informal. Then back to Cody to visit some friends and have a couple shots of Crown Royal, then back home to finish the prime rib and lobster tails. Then we'll hang for awhile listening to Christmas music before we open presents.

My 2 year old daughter and almost 4 year old son will be a blast. They can't keep their hands off the tree.

My wife and sone were looking at a catalog from Fisher Price the other day. It listed all of the "Little People" sets. I hears my wife go, "Reece, we're not Jewish, we're Methodist". I was thinking WTF. On facing pages was the Little People Christmas set, which we have, and then the Little People Hannaukah set. He's been wanting a bit of everything and wanted the Hannaukah set to boot. Just the way it sounded cracked me up.

We're making a point to stay home for the whole Wed-Sun holdiay. Both my parents and her parents live about 2:30 away. We're going to see them over New Years. It just seems to suck for the kiddies to get all the stuff and then have to drag them off to grandma's and 5 hrs in the car.

I like baking Christmas cookies on Christmas Eve with some Van Morisson on the turntable.....the smell of pine needles and cinnamon candles....long naps and afternoon football games....board games until late into the evening......leftover Christmas dinner at Midnight....a good glass of chardonay......a soft snow on Christmas morning........a warm cup of coffee as the family and the world wake from peaceful slumber....gathering around the tree to open gifts that don't matter because the only thing that DOES matter is that we're all together and the coffee is still warm and life is good.

well if we don't go to Vermont for the hoilday, then on Christmas I will volunteer with my daughter at the Aquarium and then go and patrol the beach in search of turtles that have beached themselves. We did that last year, what a blast. it was pouring, we didnt save turtles but we saved huge rats, then it snowed like 2 feet that night. very cool!

Personally I've got a minor case of the "bah humbugs" creeping in, and that's really bad with a 16 month old around. It's too much damn work this year. I have to do all this stuff but I'm not feeling it.

I only like my immediate family at my house on Christmas. I guess I'm not very social but I work long hours (holidays too) so I don't like going home to a house full of folks. We do go to other family & friends house but I like short visits. My wife & daughters family usually take separate cars so that we can all leave at different times. I stay longer if they need something repaired. I've landscaped friends yards, plow their snow, fix their locks, replace elect breakers & switches & add whatever. I do plumbing, love backhoes & other machinery. I've made them concrete walks & large wooden playthings, clubhouses, decks & other carpentry. Love ceramic tile but not too fond of gardening. These things I don't mind....but socialize.....lord no.

I love to see my kids faces, how they light up on christmas day. Then of course being with family, visiting far away family - :( not this year...

Stuff like that.

I USED to love the smell of snow in the air...christmas lights all over the town... Drinking guehwein while walking through the christmas market....

Never really thought about it up until now, but I really do miss that stuff.

My church probably has the most memebers in this city. Very big. We used X-mas eve service as a chance to invite many family and friends to see how we worship, so the service is held in a large auditorium here. On X-mas eve day, I'll be part of a team that prays over every seat in the building. We'll just thank God for the Messiah and ask his spirit into the evenings service. Too bad I have to work and don't actually get to attend the service.

I was talking before of all the nice things that NYC has to offer at Xmas time. Well, the partner in charge here at the law firm just offered me two great seats for Thursday nightat Carnegie Hall for the Pops Xmas show. And I had to turn them down! We are having a holiday party for the Boy and Cub Scouts. It's afun event for the little guys, so I don't want to rain on their parade. Oh well, timing is everything, I always say!
