Marmot Phenomenon EL Jacket
(Santa Rosa, CA – October 20, 2003) The Marmot Project Team, the W.L. Gore & Associates, Inc. Advance Development Group and the R&D department of Novatech Electro-Luminescent, Inc. of Chino, California, are collaborating in the development of a new, wearable technology concept garment named the Phenomenon EL. This advance concept garment features the latest development in safety and close proximity illumination for the wearer without any adverse weight penalty. Electroluminescent (EL) panels are strategically integrated into this Marmot waterproof/breathable all-weather GORE-TEX® XCR® performance shell concept garment to provide visibility and identification at great distance at night.

This is just too cool the jacket lights up! Just when you thought you had seen everything.

Wow. I wonder how much that will cost. I'll bet there's no on/off switch. That would really suck.

Look at it this way: You won't need a night-sight on your rifle...

Does a light have to shine on it (like the illuminite bike jackets) or does it just glow all by itself?

It looks pretty cool on the website. They have a picture of someone reading a map and their arms are glowing.

I don't know. It seems like it'd only screw up your night vision. At least a headlamp directs a beam of light ahead of you and away from your eyes. I'd bet the refractering light from the jacket would only mess up how well you see in the dark.

It'd be good for finding your body at night though. Especially after the other hikers had strangled you and tossed you over a cliff...lol...
