I’m just getting outfitted for my very first backpacking trip.

I found a great deal on a mummy style sleeping bag. The only thing is that it’s bright purple. Most of them are blue or green. I’m not real big on purple.

Are certain colors considered ‘uncool’ among backpackers? Should I get the purple bag?

Who's gonna care? The bears? Nah, get the bag regardless of what color it is. If it functions good, who cares?

Very uncool.

Scorchfire knows less about backpacking than anyone on this board. I don't think she has ever camped.

Avoid the purple unless you want to be called goofy grape all night.

Chances are hardly anyone will ever see it since it'll be in your stuff sack and inside your tent most of the time. If one piece of your gear was going to be purple, that'd probably be the best one.

Just make sure the rest of your gear is color coordinated, like your tent, pack, stove, etc.

A little color ain't gonna hurt. Just don't get to carried away or you're gonna look like a drag queen cruising the back country!

Purple ?? how purple ?? like dark purple or a little softer more on the lavender side ??

You do know that purple gear on the trail signals others that you practice an alternate lifestyle and are available ~~not that there is anything wrong with that~~ for some people that would be very cool.

Of course if the bag is rated at 40f and you go out in 15f weather you will be more than cool, you will be bloody freezing.
