The Bella Vita (ziti only) is from Trader Joes” 3:00:42 PM 2/26/04 Here's another diet “A buddy of mine is on this one. Hey guys, I have recently lost 12 pounds after starting a diet a few weeks ago. I've got a ways to go, but 12 pounds is a good start. My diet is a modification of the popular "South Beach diet." This simple diet can be summarized: Step 1: Avoid bad carbs, and eat only good carbs Step 2: Avoid bad fats, and eat only good fats Step 3: Get a vasectomy Step 4: As a complication of Step 3, get an infected testicle Safe, healthy weight loss can be achieved with Steps 1 and 2. The weight loss is gradual. If you want to lose weight more quickly, you can try fasting. Of course, fasting is very difficult to maintain for long. However, Step 4 makes fasting a snap! It is hard to get enthusiastic about food when you feel like you've been kicked in the balls by Bruce Lee.” 3:01:51 PM 2/26/04 “Thanks, Pepsi. I tried GNC and one other place. I have a local health food store, kinda like a food co-op type place. I will try there...” 3:01:52 PM 2/26/04 “"If you want to lose weight more quickly, you can try fasting......." This might seems a little weird, but some days, I forget to eat. Never two days in a row, but I'll just forget. Happens more during the warmer months and I always remember that I forgot ot eat at 2 inthe morning. Of course I wait until morning to eat, silly....” 3:15:44 PM 2/26/04 “#3 ? HAHAHAHA” 3:17:18 PM 2/26/04 skating “I'm teaching in a large 1 story school I've been out skating in the halls for the last 45 mins. I haven't had skates on for the last 12 years. What do you think about skating as an exercise component to weight loss?” 5:32:12 PM 2/26/04 “After having lost 20 lbs I have plateued out once again. I can't seem to get any lower. I lost 40lbs 3 years ago and got down to where I am now but couldn't maintain the weight. I got here and struggled for a while and then started to gain. It took 3 years to gain 20 of the 40lbs back. It took me about 1.5 months to take it off again. I must say though I have stayed down this time a bit longer than before and I think I might just be able to keep it off as long as there aren't any Ben and Jerry breakdowns. Nothing like having a whole closet full of clothing to chose from in the mornings. I never seem to be short of pants anymore.” 9:07:13 PM 2/26/04 “In my Anatomy, Physiology lab today we took blood pressure, did EKGs on each other and did something called a Harvard 2 step which is a kind of stress test. You do step aerobics on a 20 inch step for 5 minutes (30 steps per minute). For a short person like me, this was very uncomfortable on the knees. Anyway, when you are done, you rest for 60 seconds. Then someone counts your pulse for 30 seconds. Then you rest for 30 seconds, count pulse for 30 seconds and repeat. You add up the pulse counts (there should be three separate counts). You multiply that total by 2. This is your denominator, and the numerator is 300 seconds (the time that you exercised) times 100. When you finish the calculation, anything over ninety is excellent, 80-90 is good, 70-80 is sedentary and 60-70 is lethargic, or something like that. It was interesting. The lady counting my pulse messed it up so I have to try this again. But if any of you try it out, let me know how your numbers come out. My EKG was not as cool as my 24 year old lab partner. Her's looked just like the textbook but mine showed a drawn out T wave rather than a spike. I guess that means that I am not as resilient as a youngster.” 9:41:18 PM 2/26/04 “I lost ten pounds in January. I gained twelve pounds in February. I am going to be back on track for the months March through July to have made a life style change by August.” 8:30:02 AM 2/27/04 “200.5 this am. Glad I can eat eggs, green chili and a little cheese sprinkled on top. I didn't have time to make breakfast this am.” 9:20:12 AM 2/27/04 “Way to go, bit: the "Infected Testicle Diet." That'll sell....” 10:26:24 AM 2/27/04 “Only works for guys though, sorry ladies...” 10:32:19 AM 2/27/04 “There's probably potential for a woman's version of that somehow though....” 10:37:05 AM 2/27/04 “Lyndy - fructose and corn syrup aren't exactly the same, but they affect your body the same way. Anything that ends in ose (sucrose, lactose, etc.) is a sugar, and should be avoided as much as possible.” 10:40:12 AM 2/27/04 “Thanks Ginny. I only asked because my daughter likes lemonade and soda, and since the powdered lemonade lists fructose and the soda lists corn syrup, I was curious if they were the same or different. I have to ration both of them for her.” 11:03:31 AM 2/27/04 “Oh and I am down a whopping three pounds in the last six weeks since I started my exercise routine. Now I am trying to focus on shrinking portion sizes and being stricter on cutting non fruit and veggie carbs. I hate the low carb thing as it really clobbers my energy level. When I did the Atkins diet several years ago, I felt like a walking zombie constantly looking for caffeine so I could function.” 11:08:38 AM 2/27/04 “abilene, I've been roller skating the last few Wednesday nights. I skate for about 2 hours after an hour of step aerobics at the gym. I don't know how much it really does for me, but it feels kinda like exercise, it's fun and easy, and it's more than I was doing.” 11:18:22 AM 2/27/04 “twigeater, thanks for the reply. It's sort of a no excuses exercise I don't have to go anywhere, it's not raining etc. I want to make a major change in myself before next school year.” 3:09:18 PM 2/27/04 “I have finally got past my sticking point of 200 lbs. I have been ranging between 193-197 for the past week. I know the next 15 or so lbs are going to be hardest to get to my goal of 180.” 1:54:25 PM 2/28/04 “180,,,,,, my goal too I'm glad you are so close” 5:03:52 PM 2/29/04 A Lean Mean Hikin' Machine “I'm down to 145lbs now. Neked!” 5:08:45 PM 2/29/04 “Hey..... I know the only real lasting program is eating responsibly and getting the right amount of exercise ..... but does anyone know anything about a "Jen Fe Next" weight loss patch? Supposed to contain only natural ingredients. So does rattlesnake venom. LOL Seriously, a friend of my daughter is supposed to have lost a bunch of weight and has not experienced any side effects yet. She claims it has helped her to stay on track.” 6:26:45 PM 2/29/04 “Go Ewker!! I am stuck - hovering with 10 lbs more to go. ARRRRRGGHHHH!!!” 12:51:05 AM 3/03/04 “I hope to break the 130 barrier sometime this week. I'm much happier with my meals now that I've added a few carbs back in. Fruit, especially! And a glass of milk now and then. I really missed my milk!” 8:14:45 AM 3/03/04 “199.5 today. Finally broke the barrier. I've been bouncing around just above 200 for a week or so.” 6:51:52 AM 3/04/04 “Okay, I started the South Beach Diet, and the first time since 9 month I finally lost some. I really hated that I had what...hmm, about 3 pants that fit me. Soon I will fit into my cloth again. Thus....no need to start smoking. :) I feel good!! I do wonder though how weak I will be on my trip to sipsey this weekend. Hmm, and I wonder what to eat. I guess I will be packing a lot of tuna and chicken.” 7:04:56 AM 3/04/04 “oh, I found some dried egg white. anyone ever tried to make omelettes with egg whites? How do they taste?? dried egg white would be so easy to carry with me on this trip. they are light, and they won't spoil. and lots of protein.” 7:07:38 AM 3/04/04 “Gemini, on the trips that have been on while on the SB diet I just ate what ever. When I got back from the trips I was about 3-4lbs heavier but that came back off in a couple days. I was worried about what to carry and energy also. I didn't have my normal candy intake though.” 8:36:40 AM 3/04/04 “Soon I will fit into my cloth again. Gemini 07:04:56 AM Is this a loin cloth you are talking about, Gem? When you are through, please post pics for the menfolk here!!!” 8:51:32 AM 3/04/04 “Aw, TB, you shouldn't make fun of Gem that way! But if you're right, I want pics too.” 9:02:04 AM 3/04/04 “I lost 10 lbs pretty easy and now I'm stuck. I haven't lost anything in a couple weeks.” 11:02:27 AM 3/04/04 “dang you all!!! picture will come later. After I have lost the other 15 lbs. who is doing the south beach diet?? found a great website with receipes and stuff: http://www.hippodamia.com No, I will not link it. You've been bad!!” 6:31:36 PM 3/04/04 “197.5 started at 220 New Years, 218 on 4 or 5 weeks ago when I started South Beach. 5 more and I am at my goal.” 10:30:11 AM 3/06/04 “Your goal was 192.5? Strange number... j/k ManofPath - congrats on the adipose shrinkage!” 10:40:39 AM 3/06/04 “well, not exactly 192.5. 192-193 will do. ;-)” 10:47:27 PM 3/06/04 A Happy Pathman... “...Getting skinnier every day!!! ![]() Treebeard in Maple's domain” 10:51:39 PM 3/06/04 “Treebeard, Another alternative for low carb pasta. I made a lasagna tonight using cabbage leaves (cooked) in place of the pasta. Huge success !! Of course as always, you must like cabbage for this to work and I can't remember when I last had real pasta so your taste may vary.” 11:15:42 PM 3/06/04 You guys'll hate me.. “because I'm having a #&%!$ of a time keeping weight on..chemo and radiation killed my saliva glands and eating is a real #&%!$ without them..funny, for 30 years I tried to lose weight..now, I'm trying to gain..I went from 180lbs to my present 120lbs..” 11:40:20 PM 3/06/04 hey, no swearing! “I'm learning more about TT everyday! Here I thought you all had a special code..” 11:41:24 PM 3/06/04 “Sounds like you've had a rough ride of it matahari. You sound like your in pretty good spirits. Eating would lose a lot of appeal without the saliva.” 11:42:37 PM 3/06/04 Diets & disasters “I too am trying to lose the poundage that has magically appeared since going on the injured list 5 months ago. Who knew that a box of brandy beans could not only disappear in less than a day, but could also taste so dang good when frozen?! Gemini (and anyone else on the SB diet) how do you find the SB diet? I've tried Atkins and reach a point where the sight of an egg makes me want to puke! Is SB any better?” 11:59:43 PM 3/06/04 I'm doing great.. “hey, I coulda lost my tongue (tongue cancer) and THAT would've been a drag..I turned from a fat redhead with straight hair to a skinny redhead with curly hair..triple chins disappeared, also..it's cool to have a completely different body when you're over 50..I'm still dancing;)” 12:02:00 AM 3/07/04 “what a fantastic attitude! Kudos to you Mataharihiker.” 9:19:17 AM 3/07/04 advice from my father.. “this really pissed me off a few years ago when I was complaining to him about the difficulties I was having in my attempts to lose weight.. "It's really quite simple," he said slowly, "the reason people are fat is because they eat too much food." I burst out laughing then and it still makes me smile today..it 's simple, but true..and the hardest diet in the world to follow..” 9:53:57 AM 3/07/04 “yeah the tough part about loosing weight is you can't just quite you have to relearn how to eat correctly I have quite a lot of things smoking drinking etc..... but loosing weight is a challenge beyond compare for me.” 12:13:08 PM 3/07/04 mataharikhikerdancing “ 4:51:22 PM 3/07/04 that's brilliant! thank you! “Did you know the original Matahari was a Dutch exotic dancer and spy in WW1..Prosecutor suggested the name ..Bill and I really liked it so here I am..Mataharihiker!” 5:49:40 PM 3/07/04 “Matahari, It sounds like you have the same problem I do. Radiation for throat cancer destroyed some of my salivary glands and eating with a dry mouth just doesn't work. High risk for tooth decay is a reality too without proper saliva. It's one part of your body you don't think about and how important it is until it's gone.” 7:35:29 PM 3/07/04 Jump to Page << prev
