ITS NOT FAIR, I TELL YA!” 2:16:09 PM 5/24/04 “LMBO @ SG” 2:18:22 PM 5/24/04 “Anyone here just tired of all the "atkins-approved" food products being advertised on TV? I swear, the whole Atkins thing sounds like a cult. Treebeard, I tried the cardboard cutout thing for my law school exams. Great idea in theory, terrible in execution. Oh, and congrats at getting under 200. You gotta love reaching those milestones with big round easy-to-remember numbers. Next stop, 100!” 2:32:46 PM 5/24/04 “I saw a program last week on Lance Armstrong and his coach Chris Carmichael was talking a little about diet. He said the low carbohydrate diet is not suitable for active people and that Lance could never perform to his ability on a low carbohydrate diet. I don't know what that would mean to a sedentary person that is overweight, but if one becomes more active it may mean to add more carbs for better performance. Since everyone is slightly different you may have to experiment a little to find the right balance of carbs, fat and protein as activity increases.” 8:11:36 PM 5/24/04 “i love my carbs - you're not going to take them away from me” 12:08:03 AM 5/25/04 There is nothing wrong with carbs “I'll say it again. This low carb thing is bull#&%!$. Eat what you want in reasonable portions. That's how you diet, and that's how you stay thin. Today I had a bacon, lettuce, turkey, mayo (low fat) on whole wheat bread sandwich w/a big can of creamy chicken corn chowder, a few pretzels and some cherries. Total calories for the day, 1,092. Sandwich was 550 calories, soup 440 calories, pretzels & cherries 100 calories.” 12:24:38 AM 5/25/04 “I've lost 13 lbs so far on the low carb diet. It works. As long as you take in a minimum amount of carbs it works... it doesn't mean eliminate them totally.. that's just plain unhealthy.” 1:28:16 AM 5/25/04 “6 lbs Dhutch, you are gonna waste away! I am down 17 lbs since Jan 5th. I am on the birch approved diet. Its revolutionary...I eat less and like magic the weight disappaears. LOL!” 5:22:32 AM 5/25/04 “Lol birch, no chance of that!” 7:34:29 AM 5/25/04 “You gonna write a book about that diet, birch? You could make millions!!” 7:35:06 AM 5/25/04 “The older you get, the tougher it is to lose weight, because by then your body and your fat have gotten to be really good friends : )” 8:21:19 AM 5/27/04 “Yeah mine are like best buddies! But I am down to 206lbs from a starting point of 233lbs in Jan. Low Carbs is the way to go for me I guess. I am still trying to get under 200lbs, my goal was to be there by June 1 but I don't think it is going to happen. A few months ago I started mountain biking a couple times a week which has greatly increased my endurance but I find that I really need to eat something with carbs before I go riding or I bonk big time. On my last hike my pack weighed about the same as the weight that I have lost. I was hoping that it would feel like I was not carrying anything close but not quite. It made a big difference in my mobility.” 8:46:53 AM 5/27/04 “That's great progress, Lt. I, too, am having trouble staying under that 200 mark. I weighed in at 199 yesterday. Back to 200 this morning. Actually, lost one pound overall this past week...” 8:51:50 AM 5/27/04 “Treebeard, it was really hard for me to break that 200 lb barrier and stay below it. I finally did but now I am at 194-195 and holding. Due to a lot of stuff going on I haven't been to the gym in 2-3 weeks so once i get back on track I will be fine” 11:57:39 AM 5/27/04 “ok i power walked for about 2 miles, then kicked it into high gear and jogged for about 2 blocks. LOL at least its a start. (note to self, invest in sports bra) the great news is, i am down a size in my pants. i may need to buy new cloths for the summer :)” 2:45:32 PM 5/27/04 “Do you think you can trade in the 14 tons of clothes that collapsed the bar in the closet, that you won't be able to wear anymore, and get your new wardrobe like that?” 2:47:23 PM 5/27/04 “Sell them on Ebay! Those idiots will buy just about anything.” 2:48:17 PM 5/27/04 “Glad to see all the successes - mapes, report to the TT Running Club thread IMMEDIATELY!! I am still holding at about 153-154, a bit below my initial target weight of 155. I looked back at my monthly average weights for this year, and they were 156.1, 154.1, 153.9, 153.7, and 153.5 so far for May. My pants are a problem. I bought most of my current Dockers and jeans from 1-2 years ago, so they are all too big around the waist. My wonderful wife tried to find pants with my combo of waist and inseam and, well, they basically don't make them. So I guess I'll wear what I have until they wear out, then just do without!” 3:33:03 PM 5/27/04 “I'm still near my target, but a little below, not above. After a ten day vacation and some good eating (all South Beach), still drifting down a little with liberal eating and moderate aerobics via fast hiking and biking.” 10:28:11 AM 6/05/04 “Hike the Appalacian Trail. And then the PCT, and then the CDT. You should lose a good bit of weight that way. ;)” 8:41:33 AM 6/07/04 “below target now. 189. Target was at about 15% body fat. Between South Beacha nd exersize, I'm headedd for 12% or so.” 10:05:05 PM 7/11/04 “Down about 40 pounds from 6 weeks ago to 230. Don't know how much more I'd like to lose, but the gut's still there -- ugh. Maybe this is part of why we backpack -- because it beats the hell out of going to the gym...” 11:26:38 PM 7/11/04 “I hate the gym. I hit the trail hiking or the road/trail biking, but can't make myself go to the gym or the pool.” 11:27:47 PM 7/11/04 “Dang PS, you lost 40lbs! You weigh as much as me now...I'm way behind on this weight loss challenge. I did start exercising (biking/running) last week...so we'll see where it takes me in a couple week.s” 11:40:03 PM 7/11/04 “Gee, and I was just thinking about this thread yesterday.... Well, I did lose that 10 lbs on South Beach a few months back, but its found its way back to me. I'd like to do a combination of SB and counting points on Weight Watchers, but my 5K is this weekend, and cutting carbs out of my diet wouldn't be the smartest thing, I don't think.” 7:17:58 AM 7/12/04 “I just started back to the gym after taking a month of so off. It feels good to me to be back in there sweating myself to death. I also started back running which I haven't done in well over a month. Takes 16 laps to make a mile and it is like running through a tunnel. You can't even see the women working out :( I did check my weight because I felt like I had gained some but I hadn't.” 8:08:36 AM 7/12/04 “sale was teetering between 198 and 199 this morning. looking to hit 190, but with Ithaca, that may require some work upon my return...” 8:14:35 AM 7/12/04 “I dont know if I want to lose much more but I do want to tighten up my flab- So i am doing lots of strength training excersise and working on pecs, abs, butt, thighs... you get the drift.” 10:33:54 AM 7/12/04 “Soulman - I thought I noticed a difference in your last pics from the NJ AT, great job!!! Good going to the rest of you guys too! I'm going on my third straight week of hitting the gym at 6 AM for 30 minutes of stairmaster/15 minutes posing in front of mirror! I'm hoping (in the words of the immortal P.F.) that it's not too late to lose the weight I used to need to throw around!” 10:42:12 AM 7/12/04 “I finally crawled back to the gym again. Hopefully I'll stick to it this time. My biggest problem is the appetite. I started taking Trimspa, its main sale point being it reduces the munchy cravings and makes you feel full and satisfied. It's a little expensive but dang the stuff works. No munchies throughout the day, and the amount I eat at a sitdown meal is reduced. No buzzes or overstimulation either.” 10:42:15 AM 7/12/04 “dang Pathman, you're going to waste away to nothing! no buzzes, well what's the fun of that, Treebait? kidding, kidding! can we call you Anna Nicole? kidding again! please don't hurt me.” 10:48:51 AM 7/12/04 “Grrrrrrrrrr... ;)” 10:52:33 AM 7/12/04 “I am the opposite...I have to force myself to eat...I dont eat enough calories for all that I do...hence I dropped from size 18 to size 10 without trying...I just get too busy to eat and I run around like a chicken without its head at work for 9 strait hours on my feet a night I must be burning thousands of calories a day...” 10:53:42 AM 7/12/04 “when I do sit down to really eat (Once a week or so) I can only eat a little without feeling so full I get sick.” 10:55:39 AM 7/12/04 “jeesh, free, i work that long too, but unfortunatly, i never seem to forget to eat. ;0” 10:57:08 AM 7/12/04 “I got on a scale a week ago (with trepidation): 158, looks better than 175 but I still want to get down to 145 or 140. I am on a modified Atkins diet. Right now it's modified to eat whatever is in the fridge plus a beer or two at night. (Hah!)” 11:02:21 AM 7/12/04 “could be all teh sex too :) Thats always good for some calorie burning :)” 11:06:57 AM 7/12/04 “Well, dang! Trimspa really works! Since today is turning out badly I decided to indulge in homemade biscuits and sausage gravy. You know, really good comfort food. I couldn't even finish half of a smothered biscuit! What the heck!!!! It really does reduce the appetite!” 12:20:57 PM 7/14/04 “All right, what is Trimspa? HOw does it work? What's in it??” 3:41:05 PM 7/14/04 “Trimspa's a pill, mostly different types of fiber/ bulk, theobromine (happy chemical in chocolate) green tea extractives, and such. No major stimulants. Doesn't affect heart rate or blood pressure. So far so good. It's about $18 for a 2 week supply, from wally world. I take a tablet or 2 20 minutes before I eat. The only real caveat is take it with at least 8 oz. of water, preferably more.” 3:47:26 PM 7/14/04 “Interesting. Maybe I'll go check it out! I think I've heard it advertised on the radio.” 7:42:22 AM 7/15/04 “my daughter has started on some type of pill before she eats. I don't know if it is working for her or not. I will mention this pill to her.” 9:49:59 AM 7/15/04 “Isn't Trimspa what Anna Nicole Smith used?” 2:25:21 PM 7/15/04 “OK - you'll all probably jump all over this one, but a drug, even "natural" supplement or radical surgery scares me. Plus, unless you change your lifestyle this stuff is temporary. Be safe people. We care about you.” 3:35:40 PM 7/15/04 “Yam-yes, Anna Nicole used Trimspa to lose 70 lbs. in one year. That, and a heckuva lot of exercise. Dhutch- I'm pretty careful about drugs and medication. Other than some types of plant fiber, there's nothing in these pills I wasn't already taking in one form or another. Glucosamine, cocoa extract (theobromine) green tea extractives, chromium, vanadium. The fiber type ingredients are Hoodia Gordonii fiber (yes it's a plant) citrus fiber, glucomannan and the food additive/thickener sodium carboxymethylcellulose. That's about it.” 6:53:36 PM 7/15/04 dieting and such “Trimspa: Maybe it's drinking all that water before meals that is reducing your appetite! Well at least helping, right? I am back on WW points as of this morning. I hate it, but it really works. Even though I'm backpacking every weekend, I'm actually gaining weight and my clothes are tight. I'm not going back to being fat again! NO!” 3:22:55 PM 7/20/04 “Ah, pixie, I have been thinking about going back on the "point" system, but I can't seem to quite get myself to do it. Its so hard to change the way I eat....excuses, excuses....” 4:38:21 PM 7/20/04 South Beach “I'm going to have to start adding the "right" (complex) carbs now that my weight is where I want it and I'm getting more exersize.” 4:52:58 PM 7/20/04 push backs “I lost 40 pounds last year and didn't use anyone's diet but my own...I called it a push back diet. I push back from the table instead of eating more. Of course I did gain some over the winter but only 10#. I dropped 2 inches off the waist, back to a 36. I also cut out all prepared microwave meals and don't buy coke or ice cream on a regular basis. If it says low fat it means high sugar to make up the taste. Speaking of sugar, I stopped using it replacing it with Splenda. I don't eat Mcburgers or any other fast food burger and fry fare even after a trip to the woods...in fact I had a salad after four days the fourth of July weekend. I do have one craving that I take care of and that is Skyline Chili but not more than one time a week. It's a battle every day to not eat junk but one thing I found that helps is keeping the scale by the bed and step on it every morning, it gets me in the grove to keep the course.” 4:59:18 PM 7/20/04 “I've lost 7 pounds so far on Trimspa. I've also read the fine print and discovered a little secret. It contains 150 mcg. of a chromium compund per 2 tablet dose. That compund is chromium dinicotinate glycinate. That's right, a nicotine compound. No wonder it works so well. I'm not going to stop taking it either, since I rarely take it more than once a day. It really does get rid of the munchies and binges, and now I understand why.” 7:37:07 PM 8/02/04 Jump to Page << prev
