Starting Jan 5th. my goal for 2004 is..40lbs and yours?” 11:45:56 AM 12/23/03 “I still need to lose 20 more lbs but if I don't stop snacking on all this damn fudge it will be 30 lbs” 11:48:07 AM 12/23/03 “You're gonna have to lose a lot of muscle mass to get down to 40lbs, ML...” 11:48:53 AM 12/23/03 “i want to gain 8-10 pounds this year.” 11:49:07 AM 12/23/03 “I'm going to feed her nothing but sunflower seeds and turpentine, Bit. That should do it...” 11:50:19 AM 12/23/03 “Yep.” 11:50:59 AM 12/23/03 “umm so when I fart I will really blow up? sunflower seeds make me gasy” 11:51:04 AM 12/23/03 “Maple, I'll join you for the same goal. I wouldn't mind losing 40-50lbs.” 12:00:10 PM 12/23/03 “So are we gonna have a weigh in every week to track our progress?” 12:01:09 PM 12/23/03 “Real classy gassy thread. ;) I've been packing the pounds on since Turkey day. Plan on keeping it up till New Years. ;) I'll start reducing on all the hikes I've got planned for Jan - March.” 12:02:03 PM 12/23/03 “Yeah, I'm glad the start day is Jan 5 cause by then I should be done eating all the holiday food.” 12:04:54 PM 12/23/03 “Losing 20 lbs in the first few months of the year.” 12:07:31 PM 12/23/03 ductape “didn't you just lose a lot of weight last yr. Did you end up losing to much, what a problem I would like to have” 12:11:08 PM 12/23/03 “I could just see the weigh-in thing. There will be about a dozen of us each slipping Stikmon money to disguise himself to look like us and then take a photo for posting purposes...” 12:11:20 PM 12/23/03 “i didn't lose too much. i've been packing on the muscle.” 1:18:31 PM 12/23/03 “Count me in for 30lbs. I want to get in really good shape to hike the teton crest trail this summer. I need to drop the fat and gain some muscle! Good Luck everyone! It really helps to have a burning desire to do something special. (like the teton crest trail)It helps with the motivation!” 1:20:19 PM 12/23/03 “Why January 5th, maple? I'd like to lose 20 lbs.” 1:30:46 PM 12/23/03 “I'd like t olose at least 20 lbs. by July (high adventure Scouting trip in Minn.) but I'm more interested in building up muscle and endurance for said trip and all the portages on said trip. The camp wants people to be able to carry an 85 lb. pack over rocks and steep areas with minimal problems. Joy.” 1:37:28 PM 12/23/03 “ouch. that's a large child.” 1:39:07 PM 12/23/03 “because after 11 days of partying i will need the break. LOL I go back to work on the 5th, so i figured it was easier to start on a monday.” 1:54:55 PM 12/23/03 “lets see, started the year at 260 - dropped to 240 gained to 245 over the holidays.... wanna drop to 230 this coming year. Wish me luck!” 1:57:14 PM 12/23/03 “Good luck!” 2:15:53 PM 12/23/03 If anyone lives in the Sacramento area “I can give you a great name of a very resonable diet doctor. Just let me know. He has helped me go much! He is a retired OB-GYN and is doing this partly out of charity for the US problem on obesity. Other doctors charge like 300 to 150 depending. And you get much better individual care. He is great! He only charges $49 a week which includes diet pills, and diet printed on paper, exam, and weekly weigh in and blood pressure checks. I have lost like 10 times as fast as weight watchers alone. It ends up being cheaper. Dr. is a true Angel.” 7:05:55 PM 12/23/03 “Go away Mamabear” 7:43:51 PM 12/23/03 “I am not too concerned about the pounds but would like to get my body fat percentage down too about 10-13%.” 8:20:02 PM 12/23/03 “that's what im talking about birch. 6 packs get all the women wet.” 9:12:09 PM 12/23/03 oops, was that innuendo? “sorry matt.” 9:12:44 PM 12/23/03 “I'm in I need to drop about 20-25lb. My goal is to lose it and be in shape for the Devils Path Dayhike in June. 28 miles with 18,000 vertical ups and downs wooo hooo!” 9:33:45 PM 12/23/03 “I'm sure ductape meant that if you shake up a six-pack of beer, then open the tabs in the direction of some ladies, that will get them wet for sure.” 9:41:17 PM 12/23/03 “Yeah, 20 lbs is a good goal. It's about how much I put on in 2003. It really has slowed me down on the trail- I didn't realize it during the first part of the spring, but by summer I could tell it was my butt that was slowing me down , not my pack! Scorch- you looked tiny in the pics I've seen of you- can you possibly lose that much without, well, dissapearing?” 10:29:30 PM 12/23/03 “"losing that baby fat!" That was 14 years ago! Ductape, I have the same thing. I gained 7 lbs over the last month that are sticking. my goal is 145 to 150 assuming I don't grow in hight any more. lmbrzck, congrats on loosing that weight. It takes alot of work. Treebait, are you talking about Northern Teer?? I hear it is great. I haven't been, but would love too. Enjoy!!! ......875lbs?!?!?!? Dumbass boy scouts, "be prepaired" is a state of mind not a pack of lead.” 11:14:54 PM 12/23/03 “ah yeah, for all u who want to loose the weight, I ask you, was that your goal for last year as well??? I have found that physical fitness goals are not something you can just declair one day, but more of a slow chaning of life style to achive your goals. For instance, I can't say " Monday! I will run harder and try harder at practice" If I want to drop my mile time, i have to slowly run faster and faster. nothing is instant in this life. I hope all of you, evaluate your goals, and make plans to have them fit your life. If the goal changes your life drasticly, odds are that it wont stick. Oh', one more thing...I do this all the time, and kick my self for it equaly. I allways buy products wishing for the best results dreamable, but then after aweek stop using the product and curse it for not giving me the results. This applys to me in the relm, of the Get rich books, for you it may be a 2,000 tred mill. Remeber, running can be cost free.” 11:22:52 PM 12/23/03 Yes when ou are young “it is much easier to lose weight. But when are middle aged, your metabolism goes way down.” 11:28:21 PM 12/23/03 “i got certified as a personal trainer this year. i learned so much i wish i would have known when i first decided to get into shape. if you do it right it is a pleasurable experience once you get past the initial stage. the preferential way to lose weight is weight training. bigger muscles burn more calories. it sounds so simple now, but for a whole year all i did was run barely touching weights. cardio is just an added calorie burn. numerous studies have shown that a weight lifting session burns just as many calories in a 24 hour period as 1 hour of running. your metabolism stays up to repair the damage you've done. you're burning these calories when you're doing NOTHING. that's the best part. a raise in your resting metabolic rate will beat the temporary raise running gives you any day. do them both and you're just shredding the fat faster. you don't have to get huge muscles to get this effect either. simply reversing the atrophy that occurs from disuse is enough to raise your rmr.” 11:37:45 PM 12/23/03 Ductape “Also, the more weight you lose, the more important it is to get those legs really working. It keeps up the weight loss too,,,,that is what my doctor said. sounds like you have a great job and are very helpful to people. What area are you in? Maybe when I get closer to my goal, I really should check into one of those. I know my health club has them.” 11:57:40 PM 12/23/03 are you mama bear? “if you do it right you won't have to worry about keeping the weight off. it will stay off on it's own. a person can easily maintain his or her present weight with 2 exercise sessions a week. it's not hard. i eat 3 times as much food now as i ever did when i was a tubbo. it's very simple actually. the only reason people think it's so complicated is because most people never make it past the stage where their body hurts for a week from doing anything. 4-5 weeks of exercise and that part's pretty much done. a lot of people have a hard time keeping weight off because they lose it the wrong way. instead of dieting alone you have to exercise. by only dieting your body will burn fat for energy, but it will also burn muscle. this will lower your rmr, making it harder to keep weight off. with less lean mass your body will require fewer calories to maintain present weight. it's crucial to lift weights to at least maintain the lean mass you have, if not add more. nutrition has a lot to do with it, also. i'd say nutrition is about 85-90 percent of the ball game. and i don't mean eating less, i mean eating right. you have to eat at least 5 times a day. many fat people will tell you they only eat 2 times a day and they can't understand why they're still fat. your body is much more willing to give up it's fat stores if it's being fed every 3 hours. otherwise, it feels like it needs to hold on to as much as it can. it's a survival mechanism for times of famine.” 12:12:21 AM 12/24/03 yes, “it's mamabear” 12:20:50 AM 12/24/03 then i won't waste any more of my time “on that crazy bětch.” 12:29:13 AM 12/24/03 “MSCMB here. I cant stop loosing the weight. Im eatting a ton lately and it keeps peeling away. COOL!” 11:23:06 AM 12/24/03 bumpin this back to the top “for those who want to lose weight, maybe we can encourage each other or give that "I've lost more than you this week" in your face. Over the past year, I've lost 36lbs and am working on another 40. I ran into an old friend that, a few years ago, lost 175lbs, went on to be a personal trainer, and just opened her own fitness center. She invited me to come check it out and promised to go easy on my leg. Ductape, after reading your above posts, I'm going to go there today. See, this thread has inspired someone already!” 5:29:53 AM 12/26/03 “Guess I'm somwhere between ductape and bitpusher....I could lose not any more than 10lbs, but could use the muscle mass....gotta stop eating all this food and exercise more!!!” 6:36:23 AM 12/26/03 “Food has been all over my house for a couple of weeks and it keeps getting in my mouth!! I am chubby again. Need to lose 5 but 10 would make me sexy.” 4:00:00 PM 12/26/03 MaryPhyl “don't be sucked in by "those" that try to influence or ditate what is stylish, sexy, etc. Do you really think you need to lose 10lbs to be sexy? That reminds me of a joke... How do you make 10lbs of fat sexy? put a nipple on it!” 5:12:54 PM 12/26/03 OK, I'm in. “January 5th eh. I've let too much work and too little play make me a pudgy boy. I need to lose about 30# of fat for 15% body fat. That would be a good place for me. I was close to that March 2001, and have gradually creeped up. When I don't have/make time to get outside and exersize, my eating goes out the window, just the opposite of what I should do.” 8:55:24 PM 12/27/03 “Okay then- Jan. 5th- we can do this!!!” 9:38:07 PM 12/27/03 “I'm getting ready for the big day by eating as much holiday junkfood as I can.” 9:48:01 PM 12/27/03 “haha, Dub. I'm right there with ya! Funny how we do that before the diet starts- like we may never eat again!! Give me bad bad bad food NOW. lol!” 10:32:04 PM 12/27/03 “I need to shed about thirty. Jan 5th was the day Maple and I will be starting the Atkins diet and exercise regimen. The Atkins will be especially good for me because the carbs are my big problem. Plus, my triglycerides are throught the roof and my doc says the carbs are what need to be eliminated to bring those down. So, Atkins it is. I have been going throught he recipes and making lists of the foods anhd dishes that will be suitable to our tastes. Its alifestyle change, so I am trying to map the diet out as besty as I can. As for exercise, I was gong to Bally's and lifting weights and doing a lunchtime , one hour workout 3 -4 times a week, but fell off the wagon about 6 months ago. And my eating got out of hand to boot. Now, it's time to ghet out of the rut. So, I had talked to Maple about this and she agreed to be my partner. I also stressed that we have to be serious about this. There's no room for the 'oh, just this once and it won't hurt me' type cheating. The first two weeks on Atkins will be the strictest time. On the up side, I found some delicious looking recipes. also, found a food outlet that has 25% off Atkins products and other stuff. One more week to go!” 10:43:15 PM 12/27/03 “Dang, sorry for not proofreading that last post!” 10:44:43 PM 12/27/03 “I tried lifting weights to lose inches for about four months and it didn't work. I'd gain weight for a week then I'd lose a little, then gain some more, lose a little. I got stronger (lifted 5 days a week, each day I excercised a different muscle group) but really didn't lose weight. This time around I'm going to row and bike daily for 30mins to an hour and then lift working chest, back, bi's and tri's, and shoulders--I'm going to skip legs as I will be biking. I'll also decrease my lifting slightly so I won't be so tired to row and bike. This way I should lose weight (and the big gut) and hopefully gain some upper body muscle while increasing endurance in my legs. I also plan on avoiding all fried foods, cheeses, mayonaise, fast food--anything too unhealthy. I'll stick to vegetables as much as I can then lots of chicken, fish and some red meat for protein. I hope to shave 40lbs, but I'd settle for 30lbs if I gained a good amount of muscle over the next year.” 10:50:12 PM 12/27/03 Jump to Page |  1 | 2
