This is a point which I agree with wholeheartedly, which is why it seems important to be skeptical of the party that openly gives advantage to those who already wield the most power. It is in their interest to bring in more and more illegal aliens to take jobs because it drives the labor cost down, thus making a work force that was formerly strong, weak. That is why you should question an administration who wants to give more control to corporations who have no interest in maintaining jobs in the USA. Starve the public sector until power is held by the private sector and hope that their sense of patriotism and good will toward their fellow citizenry overcomes their greed? Uhhhh....there are many examples that have cost the American citizens billions and billions to the contrary. Corporate rip-offs have cost even the conservatives of this country more in the last three years than their taxes have cost them in decades.” 4:05:17 PM 3/03/04 “"Naivete" could be equated with this statement. Trying to rely on the better nature of the wealthy to make trickle down economics work is like trying to find Osama Bin Laden in Iraq.” 4:07:48 PM 3/03/04 “Or, more apt; Find the Iraq in Bin Laden.” 6:37:22 PM 3/03/04 “ You can take Salem out of the country, but! You can't take the country out of... Salem. ” 6:50:16 PM 3/03/04 “Case in Point from Dunadan's comment. 1.) Charter Schools - the privatization of public schools, using public cash. Most out here in Ohio fail, and many are rife with corruption. A few have closed, sticking taxpayers with mucho $, and all of this drains the public school sytem. 2.) Bush's tax cuts gave the average guy $400-$600 per year. The rich (those making $100K or better) got much more. Bush didn't fund No Child Left Behind, which he could have, using the tax cut $. As a result, the burden is on the local school systems to pay for it. In addition, the jobs that the tax cuts were supposed to create (see:trickle down economics), along with lack of enforcement of certain aspects of NAFTA (Labor and Environmental agreements), have sent 1 in 6 manufacturing (exculding McDonald workers) jobs out of the state of Ohio. This means companies are closing, and the schools generate revenue from these companies personal property tax. Furthermore, the rising cost of healthcare (30%+, each year, over the least 3 years), and no regulation from the Bush admin. (see Bush campaign donor list) have created an additional windfall for the schools. Finally, Bush's republican buddies who run the state of ohio have decreased aide to schools, creating more loss of tax dollars, because......THIS IS HOW TRICKLE DOWN ECONOMICS WORKS! The result, a combined 7 million shortfall for two local school districts for next year, and beyond. Why, the middle class communities can't afford the increases (Demographic consists of many retirees, and MHI's of between $36-$40K), in other words, people who barely got any tax relief from Bush, and now are expected to shell out the cash to save the schools. The only people that got trickled on were the 70+ workers I represent, the 50+ teachers that are getting laid off, the kids, the community's home values, and pretty much anybody that didn't recieve a big ole tax cut. I rest my case.” 6:57:18 PM 3/03/04 “Oh yeah, and I forgot the retirement surcharge increases due to the greedy wall street boys who overinflated the market, killing the average guy's retirement funds, and taking a big bite out of pension funds. That should be included as a reason for the budget crunch as well. This reasonable, truthful, logical and factual post is the essance of my stump speech that has raised over $20,000 from many middle class folks to get rid of Bush, republicans, and anybody who thinks trickle down economics works.” 7:01:25 PM 3/03/04 “I've been working steady for the past 30 years. My pay is way above the local average. My benefits (health, dental, eye etc) are good & my vacation is around 5 weeks a year. My wife made as much in a different field. I would never tell somebody else that they were stupid, uneducated or unmotivated. We were just persevered & got LUCKY.” 8:11:58 PM 3/03/04 Go Buddha ! “Those who recieved the benefit of tax cuts are free to invest their money anywhere, and they do. Many invest in other countries where the return is great than here in the U.S. where interest rates are low.” 7:16:22 AM 3/04/04 “i want government to pay for all my stuff.” 10:39:52 PM 3/04/04 “Is it the role of government to protect its people, Strat?” 11:08:34 PM 3/04/04 “that is government's number one job. # 2 is to ajudicate disputes. #3 is to make and inforce laws. that's it. not income redistribution. not deciding who needs to keep how much of what they have worked hard to earn.you take away the rewards for hard work, dedication, devotion, and you take away the reason we are great. socialism is what you want. it has failed over and over, because it kills the will of men to strive for greatness, making us....average. america it great because people are free to rise above the average, if they so desire. the bottom 50% of americans don't pay any taxes. how is this unfair? the top 5% pay 53 % of taxes. how is this unfair? The top 50% were those individuals or couples filing jointly who earned $26,000 and up in 1999. (The top 1% earned $293,000-plus.) so, you have one side (poor-democrats) saying we''l take the other side''s stuff and give it to you. check the stats again. the top 1% earns 17.53 of all income, the top 5% earns 31.99,the top 10% earns 43.11%,the top 25% earns 65.23%, and the top 50% earns 86.19% of all the income. democrats always say "tax cuts for the rich!". well, there's not much of a way to cut taxes on the bottom 50% now is there? Most of the rich have earned their wealth... Looking at the Fortune 400, quite a few even of the very richest people came from a standing start, while others inherited a small business and turned it into a giant corporation. http://www.irs.ustreas.gov/pub/irs-soi/01in01ts.xls you kill the rich man, you kill freedom...america will die. rich people employ us, make stuff we want & provide services we need... socialism is not a family value...” 9:22:09 AM 3/05/04 “So, for instance, is it the government's number one resposibility to protect its citizens against disease as well as foreign aggression? How about protecting its citizens against crime? Does that mean that it is okay to be proactive and actively police higher crime areas more thoroughly than lower crime areas? Does it mean that it's okay to use tax money to try to revitalize high-crime areas? Also, does the government have a resposibility to ensure education for its citizens?” 9:27:40 AM 3/05/04 “I would think that the more accurate question would be how much protection should the government provide.” 9:31:19 AM 3/05/04 “Don't do it Struedel! It's a set-up!” 9:31:19 AM 3/05/04 “And protection from what threats.” 9:31:55 AM 3/05/04 “How about protection from invasion? Seems to me that GW wants to encourage the invasion from Mexico.” 9:32:28 AM 3/05/04 SUV Tax writeoff Loophole 9:32:59 AM 3/05/04 “Gawd Strat, you are one masochistic sob ain’t ya? Ya just take a beating and keep coming back don’t ya? LOL! Not saying you’re even wrong but the ratio of libs to conservatives makes your endeavors seem like the Olympic boxing team vs. Screech. Fun to watch but a waste of time.” 9:39:05 AM 3/05/04 “...against all enemies, foreign and domestic..... phaeddypoopiehead, education is not the government's job. liberals think it is their job ..... education is an industry and should be open to market forces like any other. market forces drive competition and produce the best result. government is wastefull, inneficient, and corrupt. quit trying to change the subject you critical thinker you....” 9:39:18 AM 3/05/04 “Anyone see the frontline on Corporate tax shelters? Corporations are paying about 17% taxes on income. I pay a higher percentage than that. This is fair?” 9:39:22 AM 3/05/04 “What you need to do is convince the gov't that your household is a church.” 9:41:34 AM 3/05/04 “Man!, am I itching to write something facetious. I will refrain for now.” 9:42:57 AM 3/05/04 “So, strat, you believe that you could take the percentage of money that you pay in taxes that goes toward education and manage that money in such a way as to afford education for your children in as good a manner as they're getting now? "i want government to pay for all my stuff." stratdewd 10:39:52 PM 03/04/04 I'm on subject. ...against all enemies, foreign and domestic..... Does that mean we should or should not have programs like the center for disease control?” 9:46:05 AM 3/05/04 “By the way, Strat, your "socialism" shtick is old and worn out. I'm in favor of stringent regulation of the free market and a number of safety net social programs, but I am not advocating socializing all business by any means. Calling me a socialist is ridiculous and only shows your ignorance of the term.” 9:51:44 AM 3/05/04 “I agree with strat. I get so mad when I go into a store and see poor people paying no sales taxes. The property owner down the block pays no propery tax because his tenants are poor. Those lucky duckies aren't paying a dime into social security, unemployment, disability or medicaire through payroll taxes. Buy a clue.” 9:53:39 AM 3/05/04 “It really brakes my heart to see posts like Strats. I feel for ya, homie.” 10:27:26 AM 3/05/04 “Belch. I appreciate all the conservative debate and feedback on my assessment of "trickle down" economics. Way to defend your arguement!” 10:41:01 AM 3/05/04 “Don't worry. If we amuse the rich, they will trickle something down to us. Now, I need to try to look cute, like Lyra's monkeys.” 10:43:07 AM 3/05/04 “It makes perfect sense. Give tax breaks to the rich and they will piss on everyone else.” 10:45:19 AM 3/05/04 “Trickle Down economics do work. Just not in the manner that they are presented.” 10:52:46 AM 3/05/04 “Remember, always, GW's dad called it "Voodoo Economics".” 1:35:56 PM 3/05/04 “9 of the 12 richest members of congress are democrats. the redistribution of wealth is socialism. say no to crack.” 11:05:42 PM 3/05/04 “Strat, does Martha follow your conservative thinking habits?” 2:01:11 AM 3/06/04 Hey BB “I will be in yer union again!” 4:29:50 AM 3/06/04 “Jerbear, welcome back to AFSCME. Be sure to join the PEOPLE program!” 7:14:36 AM 3/06/04 “uncliff, dunno, don't care. Bush uses scare tactics all the time to keep the public in line. Lest we forget "Evil doers are everywhere, waiting to strike at the heart of America" BS? Odd, isn't it, that after the specter of abuse of the "techincolor terrorist threat" level, they have not been raising and lowering it all the time. Our lonely, shadowed eyes turn to you!” 8:14:47 AM 3/06/04 “I agree with Laqtis. You can quote Teddy Roosevelt all day long, as far as I'm concerned. He is the anti-Bush. Strat, you should read about Theodore Roosevelt and his "reform" politics. He also defended the environment, which might make him a bit scary to conservatives nowadays.” 8:46:10 AM 3/06/04 “Typical. Strat might be back to this thread when the drubbing he got above is past the three day message display.” 11:12:02 AM 3/06/04 “the redistribution of wealth is socialism You're wrong. so·cial·ism ( P ) Pronunciation Key (ssh-lzm) n.
