GOOGLE RULES
Its funny. I have noticed that people are hijacking and using all sorts of old threads.

I just googled for "northface, trailtalk" and here I am.

Not for sale.

I just bougth a Northface Snowshoe 0 degree bag for $190 from Campmor. It came with a free thermarest "Zrest" . ..closed cell egg crate accoridion folding design.

Anyhoo .. .last year I was in the ADK at 0 degrees in my old Sierra designs Wild bill . ..rated to 15 degrees. I had abag liner in it ... ..but still wasn't too comfortable.

For years sleeping in shelters in the single digits has been a matter of survival not actual restful sleep.

I am hoping the Snowshoe puts and end to that.

Anyone have this bag???? thoguhts???

The bag

A classic all-season synthetic backpacking bag.
Adjustable insulated fraft collar with microfleece cord tunnel is comfortable against the skin and assures body heat retention.
Temperature Rating: 0?F / -18?C
Total Weight: 3 lbs 8 oz (1600 g).
Standard Fill: Polarguard? Delta.
Fill Weight: 2 lbs 3 oz (995 g)
Shell Fabric: Firestorm?.
Max Height User Regular: 6 feet..
Stuffsack Size: 9.5in x 18in (24 cm x 46 cm).

Thats a good price for a 0 deg bag. I'm still thinking of getting one for more winter trips this year. I did the same thing you did - a 15 deg with a liner. It's time to step up and get a good cold weather bag.

There's nothing better than having the peice of mind of knowing you have the right bag for the job and that you won't be cold.

Crazypace --(and Nigal)

The thing that always got me with the 15 degree bag was the drafts. Every time I rolled over (which is often given a bad right shoulder) the bag would leak cold air in.

I used to put my fleece jacket in the bag with me, and fashion a draft tube out of it to protect the chill from getting down to my chest.

This bag has a draft tube along the entire zipper and and baffle across the chest.

It also has a zip pocket (albeit not large) for some of my crap so I don't have to chas eit around.

Quick story:

last year, Nov 12 or so in the ADK. Shelter at bushnell falls. It is -0 degrees.

I have a brand new headlamp (petzal tikka).

In the depths of the night trying to find an ambien my firend gave me that is smaller than a grain of rice I accidently open the battery compartment on my Tikka, spilling the batteries out.

I am legally blind (just about). So it is pitch black, I don't have my glasses on, I am feeling for batteries and and Ambien.

I am also trying to preserve what heat is left in my bag . ..am tangled up in my bag liner . . .

bleeding disaster. Miracouly I got the damn light back tobgether, found the pill, peed, got back in the liner, back in the bag and back to sleep.

It was a circus for a few minutes . ..and at zero minus. . ..not a funny circus.

"I used to put my fleece jacket in the bag with me, and fashion a draft tube out of it to protect the chill from getting down to my chest."

Believe it or not but I use a rectangular bag in winter. I put my fleece vest on and zip it up. Then I just slip my arms out under it and kind of wear it all the way up around my neck and it stops ALL drafts. Works like a charm.

My buddy wears bifocals and his head lamp goes on about 3PM and it stays on all night cause he sleeps with it on.
