I've Now Out-Lived 2 (Two) Suunto Vector sView MessagesViewing posts 1 to 25 of 25 messages posted.
They Last Approximately 2 Years “Well, I bought my first Vector in June '99 and had needed it reconditioned in July '01. Suunto, under the impression it was to be "reconditioned" for between $35-50, replaced it with a new one for $35. Well, the new one is now showing the same signs of malfunction. For the past few weeks the LEDs have been whack as the horizontal lines will disappear/reappear when handling the watch. Today during a long walk I noticed the altimeter showed I was at 28,000-something feet. Sure enough, when looking at the Altimeter mode Log Book for the walk, the readings showed an undeterminable ASC reading with an average ascent rate of 179 ft/min; the DSC was 2670' with an average descent rate of 633 ft/min; and 7 laps. Believe me, those figures are WRONG!!! And now for a second time I need to return the watch for servicing. I dig this watch and it's functions and I use it on all my hikes, so I hope they don't give me any trouble regarding a second reconditioning. Wish me luck.” 7:21:04 PM 12/28/03 “My altimeter by them didn't last very long at all. Never again! to much money to spend on a product that barely outlives the warranty.” 9:28:07 PM 12/28/03 “Sounds like a pressure sensor is out of tolerance, or maybe there's an A/D converter problem? There may be a sensitivity setting or calibration adjustment that could be done. After a while, you might just ask for a fresh replacement. Worth a shot. Let us know what happens.” 2:59:52 AM 12/29/03 “Having an Suunto XLander, you have my attention.” 3:00:44 AM 12/29/03 “I bet it's Earth's Van Halen belt acting up again. :0” 3:06:50 AM 12/29/03 “Don't you just hate it when the Earth's magnetic poles flip like that? Bad things happen. They just do.” 3:21:12 AM 12/29/03 “my vector is still working fine after 1 year.” 5:50:37 AM 12/29/03 “Mine is 4 years old. No problems.” 6:59:59 AM 12/29/03 “battery going bad the wrong way???” 7:47:38 AM 12/29/03 “My vector is working fine after two years. I use it alot so I have to replace the battery at least once a year.” 8:31:05 AM 12/29/03 “I have a Timex alti watch and while the Sunntos are head and shoulders about this piece of crap I have I’m convinced that wrist top altis are not my style. I’m thinking when I make the switch I’ll get a small downloading GPS.” 8:39:26 AM 12/29/03 “My watch altimeter is much more accurate than my gps. Especially in the woods.” 12:38:15 PM 12/29/03 “I just got my Observer. We shall see how it does.” 1:59:37 PM 12/29/03 “And my Crummy Timex just keeps on ticking :-)” 2:04:16 PM 12/29/03 “"My watch altimeter is much more accurate than my gps. Especially in the woods." Isn't the altimeter on gps based on triangulation of satilites rather than just simple barimetric pressure? I took a break once and reset my watch to the known altitude and by the end of the break it said I had gained like 50' of elevation.” 3:45:18 PM 12/29/03 5-6 Weeks Turnaround “Got ahold of the Returns Rep at Suunto USA. Good thing I called back today because when I first called over 4 hours ago I left a telephone message saying to return my phone call. Who knows how long I could've waited till they called me back? Anywho... Depending on how much the watch needs "reconditioned", the cost will be between $35-$75. Last time they gave me a brand new watch and charged me $35...I hope they're just as generous this time too.” 6:19:54 PM 12/29/03 I'm Complete Again “WOO HOO!!! After 3 looong weeks of hell my Vector just arrived and boy does it smell like a new car. No scratches, dents, and it even has one of those clear plastic covers over the display. If'n I didn't know better, I'd say it was a brand new watch. Maybe the new Owner's Manual means something??? And they charged me to the lowest amount...$35.” 2:38:02 PM 1/20/04 “You been buying from that shady character on the street corner again. Suunto Vector Altimeter, Barometer, Compass, Thermometer, Wristop Computer - Black List Price: $239.99 Price: $219.99 You Save: $20.00 ( 8%)” 2:58:27 PM 1/20/04 Buddur -- Vector Recondition “Buddur -- How did you go about getting your Vector reconditioned - mine is a little "odd" -- does everyone change the cover and o-ring each battery change? with the battery going bad 1/year it is a pain getting the replacement kit each time.” 12:38:20 PM 1/08/05 “5 years now and still good as new....2 batt changes.” 9:11:02 PM 1/08/05 “I wore my Casio G-Shock for five years before having to replace the battery...no kidding! I've been wearing my Casio Forrester for 3 yrs now and haven't had any problems. Oh you guys were talking about Suunto.. my bad or maybe yours! LOL” 9:16:31 PM 1/08/05 “Suunto vector, five years, four battery changes. I was in the mountains today and the altimeter was right on. I was doing an in and out. I crossed a saddle and into a tight hollow. On the way back my altimeter was way off and jumped around. When I got back across the saddle the wind was at my face. My altimeter had a completely different reading on the other side of the saddle. I finally figured out that the wind in the area was creating a high pressure reading in the hollow. Cool.” 9:27:28 PM 1/08/05 “I have only been wearing my seiko automatic 200m divers watch for 6 years. The second in 22 years. I have to have something that is bomb proof or I will break it.” 9:40:53 PM 1/08/05 “What a Jarhead without a G-Shock? Whats the world coming to? LOL” 9:43:14 PM 1/08/05 “Never could keep one. I actually had one for keeping times when I ran but they never last if I wear one all the time. Just PT.” 9:51:20 PM 1/08/05
