Where's are feerless leader and her bumbling half?” 8:57:10 PM 12/29/03 “I think we should go to that mountain....over there..you know...” 9:47:36 PM 12/29/03 “The one on the left or right?” 9:54:50 PM 12/29/03 “The one straight ahead.” 10:05:47 PM 12/29/03 “I was looking at the trip page, and who is attending, and my only question is--who's "The official dork of TT"? I'm thinking of going just to meet him.” 10:08:06 PM 12/29/03 “I can't wait to meet the Dork too. I have my guesses.... I just got a new book for the holidays and it has some of the areas we're looking at. Quite interesting......” 10:31:53 PM 12/29/03 “That's IceTea.” 10:32:22 PM 12/29/03 “AmyG is the official dork.......come on!” 10:54:00 PM 12/29/03 “So does everybody want to do this trip in the Adirondacks? Are we going to re-attack Bradley Pond?” 9:11:38 AM 12/30/03 “Dork must be Ice Tea” 9:12:16 AM 12/30/03 “I still would like to climb Colden, but Presidents Day weekend will put a lot of people in the Marcy Dam Lake Colden area.” 9:24:43 AM 12/30/03 “Yes, definitely! I was there one Presidents Weekend.....we went in from the main LOJ and we couldn't find anywhere to make camp till we reached Lake Colden!!!” 9:53:20 AM 12/30/03 “"AmyG is the official dork.......come on!" Tom Terrific 10:54:00 PM 12/29/03 no shet ! I wouldn't have thought she would have had the right ahhh gear” 10:09:23 AM 12/30/03 “Yeah HOI, you got a point there.....and she don't.” 10:16:19 AM 12/30/03 “Has anyone heard from Amy? I recall her saying that the dates might be a problem for her? Come out come out wherever you are Mrs G. Marcy Dam would be a perfect area (especially for pulling in gear sleds) if it wasn't on Prez weekend. Is that weekend locked in stone? Amy, where art thou oh 11:17:55 AM 12/30/03 “Oh, now the dates are a problem for our fearless leader? Those of us who are about to freeze our asses off, salute you!” 11:54:15 AM 12/30/03 “Hey if the dates move later I might be in!” 12:03:01 PM 12/30/03 “On the Thanksgiving weekend hike, Amy hinted to me about a possible snafu. We never got around to talking about it so I'm curious if she has a conflict. Being that she is the founder of FYAO, I feel that if she can't make it that weekend, the trip date should change to when she can. Personally, I'd prefer the weekend after the Prez holiday. It would be less crouded and perhaps Marcy Dam would be doable.” 1:35:32 PM 12/30/03 “Say, I just thought of something... You guys are a bunch of bastards!” 1:56:18 PM 12/30/03 “by the way Paddle Boy - wait til you see the sweet winter pics I took from Big Slide. Looks much different from when we were up there in August. Oh, I forgot.... you stayed in camp that day. Pffffftttt!” 2:00:58 PM 12/30/03 “Damn you, Pennsy! DAMN YOU TO HELL!” 2:01:47 PM 12/30/03 “HEY! go read my post on the Bigslide thread” 2:09:41 PM 12/30/03 “Oh, I hope the dates don't change. That might cause a snafu on my end. Where is that AmyG???” 2:14:03 PM 12/30/03 Artex “Go play with your porcupine. lol” 2:14:31 PM 12/30/03 “Pinin' for the porcs?” 2:33:13 PM 12/30/03 “don'cha worry there Tarabull. No matter what happens we can always go camping :)” 5:52:26 PM 12/30/03 sled & other thoughts “I'm done as a maybe. Need to know what the destination is going to be before I commit. I AM experienced, been hiking since I was 6 (56 years) but have been slowed some by emphysema. Still doing it (well yes, doing IT too!) just taking my time especially on heights. Would also like to get some diagrams and/or written data on modifying a trail sled. I have a jet sled and have an idea of what I want to do, but I like to get the inout of others. Just to intro myself, I currently live in Wells, NY and spend most of my time in the Silver Lake Wilderness (I'm retired). Done some hiking in the High Peaks Area, but mostly flatland trails. Longest Hike was in 1995, from Whitewood, SD to Sequoia National Park. I was born and raised on the Cheyenne River Reservation in SOuth Dakota until I was 6 yrs old and then came East.” 12:40:24 PM 1/01/04 “Would you look at that a TTer that is local to me. Hey redhawk, How did you make out on the Northville-Placid trail this past fall?” 1:40:28 PM 1/01/04 “if the dates move i'm fooked, too.” 8:57:20 PM 1/01/04 “hey ya'll...still around, been busy. arrrggh Happy New Year! Disregard any ugly rumors about FYAO changing...the dates are still a go! Now, we just have to finalize a destination...Marcy is looking good to me. I love what I've seen of the high peaks so far and I look forward to seeing some mo'! As for Santononi...I think the trail would be a tough hike for sleddin' and also there is the tent space factor...that leanto rocked, but there's no way that space would accomodate the mass of TTers expected. Talk amongst yerselves..I'll be back in a month. just kiddin' FYAO...get ready!! >:D” 8:58:30 PM 1/01/04 I Got'sk Some Ideas “Another idea is Elk Lake. There isn't a lean-to, well there are two on the Eastern and Northeastern sides, but I'll bet there's lots of area for a tent city. We could hit Pinnicle, Macomb, etc. from there. Or how'bout Giant Mtn Wilderness? (I'm just suggesting places I HAVEN'T been to)” 4:53:40 AM 1/02/04 “Here is a little info on Elk Lake. Elk Lake road is not plowed from about a 1.5 to 1 mile below the normal summer trailheads. I don’t think camping is allowed along the lake, as most of the land is private property. I’m not an authority on this as I have only camped in the area once and that was almost four years ago.” 7:28:08 AM 1/02/04 Flowed Lands “If we need leen2s and room for a tent city, Flowed Lands is a good option. The pond should be frozen by mid Feb making access to Lake Colden a breeze. Marshall and Cliff should be possible from there and Colden, Skylight , Redfield etc for the more adventurous.” 7:40:17 AM 1/02/04 Johnny Comes Through “I like that idea John. Taking Calamity Brook Trail it's 4.7mi from Upper Works parking to Calamity lean-tos. Looking at the map, I like what I see from that spot.” 2:32:16 PM 1/02/04 NPT Fall trip “Well lets just say that it was soggy. That was the week it was rain everyday. I camped at Wanika falls the first night and it rained so I got stranded because I couldn't cross the river. Stayed an extra night and finally had to bushwhack up and over and walk the river to find a place to cross. As I said, it was rain everyday and I could hust barely keep a fire going to dry things. Rangers were out looking for a hunter, as it turned out they found him in a lean to, dead from hypothermia (temp was in the 40's, he must have been an idiot or just too damn cocky!. Also I ended up doing the trip alone and was hauling 60 lbs so I bailed out at Blue Mountain Lake. I did about 55 miles. I intend to do the rest of it, from Blue Moubtain Lake down to Piseco (have done Piseco to Whitehouse and Whitehouse to Northville numerous times already)sometime in the next month or two. Would like a little more snow. Also have to make the modification to the jet sled so I have a trail sled. Any takers for that trip? It's about 5 days taking ones time (which I do. TT will be happy, there will be someone older then him. A possibility for the FYAOIV might also be along the raquette river. Going in at Coreys in Tupper Lake and hiking into Raquette Falls. From the lean to there, some of the peaks Seymour, Seward, Donaldson and Emmons are a day trip (and not a lot of traffic there) There is ample tent space as well as two lean to;s (One of which requires fording the river. or one can continue on to Shattuck Clearing. Lots of options there and if anyone didn't want to do peaks (Redhawk raises hand)they would still be able to be a part of the trip.” 3:52:49 PM 1/02/04 “Redhawk, I'm not sure if you did this section or not, but the section between Long Lake and Lake Durant could be difficult with a sled. If I remember correctly the section of trial that climbs the ridge had some steep spots and was fairly windy. Good luck with the rest of the trail.” 8:35:39 PM 1/02/04 NPT “I'll be going in via the trailhead off 30 at Rock lake and down into Wakely Dam and then South to Piseco. I should be all right. Wasn't sure if I was going to use the sled for that hike or not. Was thinking of having it ready if I do FYAOIV. I would like too, BUT until I know the destination, I can't commit. Don't want to bite of more than I can chew and slow others down. I'm fine if I don't have any and steep elevation changes. If I do, I need to just take my time and I son't think I would attempt that in the winter anyway. If it's a hike into a base camp that isn't too difficult, then I may go for it and i can do my own thing there when others do the peaks.” 10:22:49 PM 1/03/04 lumberzac “You say I'm local to you and you're sust south of the blue line. That equates to where? Interested in doing a snowshoe/hike into the West Branch Gorge? Either Whitewood to Route 10, the reverse or an In and Out and maybe camp one night at the forth falls? Looking for someone to hook up with for winter treks. You can contact me email at redhawk@siouxme.com” 2:28:27 PM 1/06/04 “Flowed Lands is starting to look good for me. Marcy Dam will probably be packed that weekend. Another thing to keep in mind is a campfire. Remember how much we enjoyed those fires the last 2 years? I don't think campfires are permitted at Flowed Lands or Lake Colden, even in winter. Correct me please if I'm wrong.” 6:48:31 PM 1/07/04 “Pennsy you are correct. Fires are not permitted in the Eastern High Peaks Wilderness Area.” 7:09:01 PM 1/07/04 Need to know basis “Getting to the time where I need to know what the destination(s) and itinery will be. Would likt to go but don't want to exceed my limits and if I am going to attend, I need to start preparing and making arrangements soon. Anyone got anything finalized?” 10:18:14 PM 1/08/04 “So, where are we going?” 9:35:46 PM 1/11/04 I Hope... “Flowed Lands” 10:25:55 PM 1/11/04 “Bastards.” 1:33:38 AM 1/12/04 “Close, but no cigar.” 6:53:07 AM 1/12/04 “Let's send Artex a nice fruit basket!” 7:25:06 AM 1/12/04 “When will we know?” 7:36:20 AM 1/12/04 “I think in the next couple days the location will be revealed.” 8:32:51 AM 1/12/04 “Oooh. I'm so excited!” 8:56:10 AM 1/12/04 “Should we commence with the drumroll?” 8:57:50 AM 1/12/04 << back to Freeze Yer A$$ Off IV page
