We might have to split the group into smaller parties and take different routes.

....or invade different wilderness areas.

Yeah, that's becomeing an issue - the group size limit is gonna kick us.

I think the total limit is 24, but in groups of 8 in any particular campsite.

Of course it's a wilderness so it's not like there are designated campsites, just gotta watch out for the old mortar rounds that might be laying around.

As long as we stay kinda spead out it should be fine. We can probably find enough places to camp each night to be in close enough proximity for campfires and other recrational pursuits.

That's hardly something suitable for a wilderness area!

You're absolutely right, Geo.

Naked is far more suitable for a wilderness area.

LNT Ethics
30 people may be signed up but I doubt more than 15 will show. That's usually how it goes around here. About 60-80% of the "yes" people show according to my own observation and anywhere from 0-15% of "maybe" people show. A lot of it has to do with the weather. We had almost 16 signed up for Mammoth Cave this weekend and only two showed.

Honestly I hope no more than 16 show up. If we have a third group of 8, well, that's pushing the limitis of LNT ethics. Anymore than that and I think we should split up into four small groups, two main groups and each main group take a different trail. So if 30 show hopefully half will be willing to go another way. We will change the route accordingly.

Like I said, I'll watch this develop. If everyone above me on this list actually goes, then I won't mind sitting out -- 24's quite a crowd.

I agree with Dub in that many people might bail if the weather forecast for that weeekend is less than perfect. That being said, we'll see what happens...

Trust me, all 24 won't come
ScorchFire

You should have seen how many bailed out on the FYAO IV trip in February.

We could split into rival squads if we are platoon-size.

Each squad could have a commo section and we could do radio checks on the hour.

North Sods is lookin' better.
The popular southern section will be mobbed.

Look For Morter Impact Pits In Upper Elevations
While in the upper elevations of the DS area, particularly the Breathed Mtn Tr and Big Stonecoal Tr, you can see large pits with a ridge of rocks around them which I've interpreted as mortar round impact pits from back when the area was used for target practice. Look for them when on those trails.
