"PS - We're destined to meet at the Pine Barrens!"

Oh? so you're bailing on Ithaca now too? I see how it is...

As far as travelling, there's Ohio in 3 weeks, West Virginia for this trip, Maine in July followed by the Ithaca trip, and maybe Isle Royale in the fall. Wow, let the road trips begin!

Reserve time for a side trip to the Blackwater Brewing Co. in Davis at the end of the trip.

And just HOW long has this Blackwater Brewing Company been in Davis?

Good thing its not Greywater Brewing.
MarkO

A couple of years, at least. You go past the Bright Morning Inn and Blackwater Brewing is on the right just before the turn-off to Blackwater Falls.

UPDATE
I'm expecting my full topo maps today, so over the weekend I'll finalize and post the route plan.

Allow yourself time to lose the trail and refind it on the way up Red Creek from Laneville. I lost that sucker twice on the way down and spent an inordinate amount of time bushwacking in the stream and picking up a bit of old roadbed from time to time on the bottomlands. The trail follows the right bank (facing upstream) from Laneville up until the junction with the Fishers Spring run trail, running up above the creek. Then it drops steeply to cross the creek at a neat little waterfall before going up the left bank to the Forks.

Bear in mind also that the Forks is a popular camping spot and will be a regular tent city on weekends.

yeah, i read that in my guide about the tent city, gonna avoid that and try to pass thru there during the daytime though to see the falls and camp elsewhere.

what will our highest elevation be on this trip?
EarthNsky
10:47:00 AM
5/23/04

3800 feet, unless you take a side trip just a bit south of where we'll be to hit Spruce Knob.

I don't think you'll need supplemental oxygen on this one.
Roam Around
12:11:40 PM

I may try and hit Spruce Knob. Really want to bag that peak.
EarthNsky

Spruce Knob is a tough 12 mile drive to the top, but the view is very nice.
MarkO

me too, i was planning on driving up there either before or after the hike. It'd be a shame to be so close to it and not get on top.
