The Route is Up!
Finally, right?!

I put a new thread up on the trips page with the route plan.

Tried to detail it as much as I could so everyone will have a good idea.

1. its a loop, so no need to shuttle cars friday night

2. parking is limited, carpool form the nearest town with other folks

:)

In case anybody didn't see this in the other threads I am arriving early on Friday - probably before noon and will leave from the wildlife trail parking area, since parking is limited I figure others who are arriving early might consider this option also. I will head down the wildlife trail, take a side trip to Rohrbaugh overlook then head down to the red creek trail and follow along with the hike as planned. Anybody who plans on joining me for this variation let me know.

Is anyone besides me thinking about extending the trip to include Monday (possibly Tuesday)?

Can anyone suggest a circuit for Sunday to Monday(and possibly Tuesday) ...?

PS: I go easy on the trail (Fast backpacking is not my cup of tea).

well, I am gonna be on this trip for sure. I may stay longer, not sure. I have a whole week until the mitchell trip. Was thinking about backpacking during that week. Solo if I have to. Not sure yet what I am gonna do.

I guess it will be a last minute thing. Wouldn't be the first time.

I can tell you that I will take advantage of 2 weeks without kids and husband. LOL

Alright Gemini!

earthling, I was just gonna get with you about car-pooling.

You and me and JO should hook up for the following week.

Gemini, I'll bring my maps of Roaring Plains if you wanna stay on the plateau beyond the Sods Fest.

The Plains are just south of The Sods and more remote and about 500 feet higher.

Take a look at Jonathan Jessup's Photo Page for a taste of Roaring Plains.

"Alright Gemini!

Ah, I understand your confusion.
The carpool suggestion was for earthNsky.
He lives outside D.C. and I thought we could ride to N.C. together for the July 4 weekend.

Otter Creek Mudfest
I was up in Otter Creek Wilderness this weekend with my daughters for a quick one night swimming hole trip. Wow was the creek up high! We waited til Saturday morning to take a cool dip. Some kayakers took advantage of the flow and came by our campsite Saturday morning.

The trail was VERY wet and MUDDY. I left the boots at home and hiked in sneakers and sandles.

Dolly Sods ought to be the same next weekend. Be prepared for some slick and muddy trails....this stampede of people will only make it more so.

We should be there there ready to wallow Friday morning, between 10 nada 12.

Cool beans Bison. I'm going to have to reread this planned loop route. Where are people planning on camping Friday night?
JO
8:01:45 AM
6/20/04

Bison,

I may want to camp somewhere along the Rohrbaugh on Sunday night. Where is that overlook? I understand there's a campsite there ...is that true? Do you know of any (other) campsites or stealth areas to pitch a tent along the Rohrbaugh?
M Silver

roam, if the dang bank didn't take care of your paycheck by then let me know. I'll pick yer ass up. I owe ya anyway. :)
Gemini

M Silver - The whole area is LNT as far as I know, I don't know if there are any level areas where appropriate for camping along that trail though.

JO - The camping area for Friday night is at the intersection of Little Stone Coal and Dunkenbarger trails. I haven't worked out the mileage for my route, but it's certainly not more than a good day's hike.
