Camelbak StowawayView MessagesViewing posts 1 to 28 of 28 messages posted.
Does it come out? “I just got a Cambelbak Stowaway insulated hydration bladder/holder. Now I'm not stupid... REALLY, **NOT!!** And I've had a Camelbak Mule forever, so I know how they work. However, I can't figure out how to get the reservoir out of the overall container. The water opening (to fill it up) sticks through to the outside BUT doesn't seem to come loose from the hole. aaaaaaaaaaccccccccck!!!” 9:25:29 AM 12/31/03 Confusing packs “lizs, And I thought I was the only one having problems with the stowaway. After much frustration trying to remove the bladder, I just decided to push the water opening as hard as I possibly could. It finally let loose and I was able to get the bladder out. But guess what !!! I have a much harder time getting the damned thing back in !! I'll probably use this stupid thing until it dies or I get too ticked and then I'll prolly buy a Platy and forget all about Camelback !! Good luck with your reservoir. NJPacker” 9:53:13 AM 12/31/03 “I gave up on camelback when I had the hose on one pull off of my bladder. I ended up with a sleeping bag with about 3 litters of water soaked into it. :(” 9:59:57 AM 12/31/03 “Had the same thing happed to me lumberzac - I now tie it to the outside of my pack should the same thing happen again.” 10:01:55 AM 12/31/03 “Never had that kind of trouble with my Platys, but I don't keep them in the main bag either. Biggest problem I've had with my Platys was setting the pack down on the bite valve and having half my water leak out and soak into my pack's padding. That sucked.” 10:01:57 AM 12/31/03 “NJpacker.... so you pushed it straight back into the container? Or did you twist it any as you pushed? Well, I for one am glad to hear I'm NOT CRAZY!! (hey, everyone shaddup!) Mebbee I'll try to write Camelbak for some info, too! And tell them their instructions SUCK!!” 10:05:05 AM 12/31/03 “Bit, I've got an old film canister rigged so the bite valve stays inside of it. Then, when I set my pack down, the bit valve doesn't get dirty or squashed.” 10:08:39 AM 12/31/03 “Oooh, great idea! See, that engineering degree did come in handy after all!” 10:09:46 AM 12/31/03 “Well, no, actually Sass had one and I copied off of her. Cheating will get you somewhere in life. :)” 10:11:37 AM 12/31/03 “lol...” 10:13:10 AM 12/31/03 “lizs, I twisted and pushed the opening at the same time. When you write Camelback, give them my regards. RIGHT !!! bitpusher and smiley girl, Get out and buy a valve for your hydration bags. They're cheap and they stop the leaking problems. NJPacker” 10:13:55 AM 12/31/03 “I have since switched over to a platypus and haven’t had any problems, except the bit valve thing. I'll have to try the film canister idea.” 10:14:20 AM 12/31/03 “Smiley girl, Cheating might get you divorced !! LOL” 10:15:21 AM 12/31/03 “I thought film canisters were only used for.....nevermind....I'll just go listen to Zepplin now.” 10:19:30 AM 12/31/03 “Roach storage?” 10:21:27 AM 12/31/03 “Yeah, man....” 10:22:55 AM 12/31/03 “I'm not married, NJPacker, so no worries there! LOL!” 10:25:13 AM 12/31/03 “so those stupid waterhoses do pull off huh? I was always worried that it could happen. I don't like my camelback bladders.I have 3 of them and each one leaks. I do like the little hook on top though, I can tie the bladder to my pack and it doesn't slide down. Can't do that with platypus. Still...Next one I'll buy will be a platypus. btw: i did have the same problems with my stowaway.I didn't take the badder out yet because I was worried that I would not get it back in.” 10:28:14 AM 12/31/03 “Smelly Girl - Will you marry me?” 10:34:14 AM 12/31/03 “oh, gojo, my hero! yes, yes, I'll marry you!!” 10:43:45 AM 12/31/03 “but there's one condition: you can't call me smelly girl anymore!” 10:44:40 AM 12/31/03 “Stinky" Girl it will be, then - lol! "Stinky butt", "doodoo hed", etc, are terms of endearment around my house, btw.” 11:03:46 AM 12/31/03 “Ahh, how sweet. Still, how 'bout "sweetie" or "hon" or something nice like htat???” 11:06:37 AM 12/31/03 “Sweaty" or "hot"? Yeah! That'd be nice! ;o)” 11:11:34 AM 12/31/03 “What is the difference between the Stowaway and the UnBottle? Also, does Platypus make something similiar or are all of theirs just plain containers with no outside material and attachments? I know they have ones with hoses but I have not seen any with material on the outside other than jsut the plastic.” 1:45:59 PM 12/31/03 lizs,, “I can't stop laughing !! After getting home from work, I went to take a closer look at my stowaway, which I never thoroughly inspected after disecting it. It appears that it now is not really attached to the insulated cover!! I filled the bladder and it doesn't leak, but I've probably ruined the insulating factor of the cover. You'd better check with Camelback before making the same dumb mistake. LMAO...might as well, it's too late to get pissed !! NJPacker” 2:41:24 PM 12/31/03 “Wow! So maybe they have just totally screwed up on their instructions??! I will check with Camelbak first.” 4:28:55 PM 12/31/03 Kudos to Camelbak “I just wanted to let people know that I wrote a note to Camelbak. A gal from Camelbak wrote back, explaining how to get the Stoaway out of the insulated pack. She said to think of putting a button through a hole. She did say it was a tight fit. Also, she offered to talk me through it on the phone, if desired. I did get the bladder out of the insulated pack, cleaned it up for its first use, and got it back in the pack. I want to give KUDOS to Camelbak for great service and share my experience with them.” 11:48:42 AM 1/14/04
