Lessons learned “Just got back from a 2 night trip to the Sypsie. It was the perfect trip! I had a blast and learned alot of cool things, such as 1.)when your buddy says that he is sure he packed the TP...double check anyway 2). Even if you have never broken a tent pole, it can happen,3). The Sypsie has an abundance of animals...and they will get into your dirty dishes while you are gone exploring, 4). Rolling your pants up to your knees before a river crossing is POINTLESS if you get in over your knees, 5). Don't expect help from your buddies when you fall waste deep into the water...they will be too busy laughing their ass off, 6). It may not be the best idea to change clothes on a popular trial,7). Wet clothes add about 10lbs to your pack, 8). and finally, don't forget to roll your windows up at the trail head! All in all it was a great time. Can't wait to get back! Happy New Year!!” 2:07:30 AM 1/01/04 “Glad you shared your lessons with us. I'm familiar with lessons 4 and 7.” 2:33:44 AM 1/01/04 “cool! sure does feel weird seeing the thread dates in 2004” 12:11:54 PM 1/01/04 “Sounds like a great trip.......LOL.....Racoons can also open coolers........and they REALLY like bacon.....” 1:48:54 PM 1/01/04 “1.) So did yer buddy pack your tent, bag, stove, etc, too? Dude, TP is one of the 11 essentials that should be packed by each and all... 2.) A pole broke. Big deal. You improvised, and always will. 3.) Please tell us you DID NOT leave dirty dishes lying around unattended. And if you did, promise that you'll hang them with your food and trash in the future. 4.) No, but removing them at the knees with the neat-o zipper will, especially if you roll the remainder up to your undies. 5.) ALWAYS expect your buddies to help when warranted, and laugh when appropriate. Frankly, I would LOVED to have seen that one - lol! 6.) Nor is hiking nekkid, yet some do it. 7.) What clothes? Levis and a sweatshirt? Get some lightweight, fast-dry stuff. It wrings-out at, like, 95%. 8.) But leave the door(s) unlocked. That way, IF somebody is going to get your stuff, you won't have a window repair to boot...” 5:14:03 PM 1/01/04 “what part of alabama are you from rebelyell?” 10:47:03 PM 1/01/04 “I am currently from Prattville (near Montgomery). Still trying to get back to t-town though Roll Tide! Where are you from MissOpie?” 10:31:22 AM 1/02/04 “RebelYell, Where were you in Sipsey. I was out there also. I was just doing some scouting. I think I saw Dayhikers truck there also. He was supposed to be out there near kinlock. I'm a local from the area and was just wandering what you thought of Sipsey. BAMA” 5:16:39 PM 1/02/04 “I am in Huntsville right now but I am about to move to Nashville. I used to live in Tuscaloosa too.” 5:50:06 PM 1/02/04 “Miss Opie, You ain't gonna turn orange on us are Ya? You know anybody north of the tenneessee river is a yank.” 9:56:23 PM 1/02/04 “*pukes on orange* no way bama! i'm a roll tide girl forever!” 10:48:28 PM 1/02/04 “Hey BAMA, my son, dad, MDS, and MDS's daughter and I were all out there. I was in my dad's reddish Ford Ranger and MDS was in a hunter Dodge Dakota. We were parked at Quillen until about noon and then were over at Kinlock. I did get a coord for Kinlock, but it said accuracy to 163'. I guess that's close enough. I only saw non-modern carvings on one boulder. Granted, we had 2 kids and were spending more time keeping them from climbing on boulders than really exploring. I did see 2 millstones, a snake carving, 3 chicken feet carvings, and some insect carvings.” 10:22:21 AM 1/03/04 “The chicken feet are actually turkey feet. Shoot me the cord. when you get a chance. There used to be a lizard carving near the entrance. I put a note on a truck that I thought was yours. We were going around to Kinlock and got sidtracked. We were on 208 and saw a green ford ranger 4x4 with a Hoover dealership and a car from Bham. We figured this must be you. We decided not to go on around to kinlock, since you had probally taken care of the deadfall. We came back around to the truck and waited until after dark to see if Ya'll were coming out. O' well someone in a green ford is wandering who is dayhiker and BAMA.” 3:50:35 PM 1/03/04
